Council Highlights submitted by Nick Daigneault Council Communications The Northern Village of Beauval Mayor and Council had a TV/Radio phone-in show on July 11th, 2013. Some issues were presented to the community so there could be open discussion about the topics. The following are highlights of those topics as well as some developing topics from previous special meetings.

Polar Oils Ltd Development A development permit was approved for Polar Oils to replace existing tanks and expand their business to include a card-lock service. Community Center Mayor and Council met with ATCO regarding a plan for a Community Center. Mayor and Council had previously met with SPRUNG structure regarding a similar concept plan. Wes Laliberte of Amisk Corporation continues to work with these companies to present a finalized concept plan and cost for Mayor and Council to approve. Beauval Forks Business Development Mayor Fred Roy continues to pursue discussions with Primrose Resource Corporation (PRC) and PLEDCO to initiate business development plans at the Beauval Forks. The Northern Village of Beauval is a 25% stakeholder in PRC and any business development through PRC would benefit our community. Amisk Corporation Wes Laliberte, CEO of Amisk Corporation, presented his short-term business strategy plan to Mayor and Council. Business ideas were discussed and we all agreed are worth pursuing. Some of these ideas include: A post-cutting plant, investing in the camp grounds at the Lac La Plonge Dam site and turning it into an RV Park/Serviced camping sites. Wes Laliberte was also appointed by Mayor and Council to sit on the Mamawai Corporation board which is a MÊtis economic development organization for the communities of La Loche, Buffalo Narrows, Ile a la Crosse, Beauval and Green Lake. NorthWest Communities Wood Products Ltd (NWC) and the Resource Ranger Program The Resource Ranger program is underway and we have participants from Beauval as well as surrounding communities attending the summer employment training opportunity. This program is 6 weeks of skill building for youth between 18-24 and prepares them for careers in the resource sector. NorthWest Company Meeting Mayor and Council met with a representative from the NorthWest Company on June 27th, 2013. The meeting went well and the NorthWest Company would like to ensure that the lines of communication are open between the local Northern Store, the NorthWest Company and ourselves. They like to become involved with community events and fundraising efforts as much as possible. The day was concluded with the Diabetes Marathon which was well attended. Thanks to everyone who participated! PRC Skills Inventory Survey The Skills Inventory Survey was extended into September. We would like to take every opportunity to get more data for the survey and if anyone wants to assist in taking the survey out to community members to fill in. We need everyone available to fill it in; the more data the better! Housing Strategy Fred and Jamie were able to attend the Housing Summit in Prince Albert in June and the information collected from this summit plus a draft report from our hired consultant Randy Braaten was presented to council on July 11th, 2013 and also presented during the TV/Radio Phone in show. Doreen Docken was also present to present on concerns about the changes in the rental prices and how the new pricing structure would affect Beauval residents in social housing. Doreen is available at the Beaver River Housing office if you have any questions or concerns regarding this presentation. Mayor and Council continue to work on solutions to address additional housing requirements for the community of Beauval. CIPI Newsletter – August 2nd, 2013

JTB Racing Summer Blast Submitted by Wes Laliberte

On behalf of Arena Funds, I wish to thank everyone that helped to make our event a success. The Village of Beauval for the grounds and all the help that was given by the Fire Suppression; they helped with the big tent and with everything else we needed during the weekend. The Mayor and council for approving the event. The volunteers that worked the gate and suffered from mosquito bites. The people that helped at the events such as bolo, horseshoes, volleyball and slo-pitch. This event could not have been done without the JTB Racing Team and Cat In The Hat Racing. Dean Gauthier for finding the performers and helping put the weekend together, Eugena McCallum, Jennifer Maurice, Emily Laliberte, Shelly Buffin and Larry Iron for keeping the weekend running smoothly. Our security staff that kept everyone safe. James Dennett and Jason Bottrell for helping with barricades and patrolling the grounds. Sol for the big tent and helping out in general behind the scenes. U&I Entertainment for opening the beer gardens and dance on Saturday and also providing entertainment all day on Sunday. Loretta King, Just The Boyz, The In-Laws, Black Rain and DM for the wonderful music this year. We hope that this is just the start and that we can have a larger scale event in the years to come. Thank you everyone for coming out and supporting the Arena Funds. And I wish to apologize if your name is not mentioned specifically in this thank you. We could not have done this without the community and out of town volunteers help. CIPI Newsletter – August 2nd, 2013
