January is Tobacco Use Month Cigarettes and Snuff We will be having a poster contest for grades K-12 and you can post your posters up in the hallways in the school and judging will take place on January 31st in the afternoon.

We will also have an essay contest on Tobacco use for students in grades 7-12 and you can hand in your essay to Gail Roy at the school, judging will take place on January 31st in the afternoon.

GED Preparation Beauval March 15, 2012 - June 25, 2012 Program Overview: This program provides students with opportunities to learn reading, writing, mathematics and basic computer literacy. Participants can prepare for the GED test as a part of this course. GED course materials will be provided. Graduates from the program who successfully complete this program can go on to write the GED test.

GED consists of five tests: Language arts - writing Language arts - reading Science Social Studies Mathematics The equivalency diploma is a recognized credential that can be the key to employment opportunities, advancement, further education and financial rewards. Practice the 4 Ds: take deep breaths, drink water, distract yourself and delay your next cigarette.

When you feel an urge to smoke, think of it like a wave. Watch the wave coming towards you, then feel it wash over you and fade away. Wait for calm to return.

Avoid your smoking triggers. Try to change your routine and stay away from places where you used to smoke.

Get out and get more exercise! Spend more time outside; go for an early morning walk; take on a new sport.

Manage your stress levels. Get plenty of rest and spend time with friends and family who care about you and support your decision to quit.

Watch what you eat. Stick to low fat snacks, crunchy vegetables and fruits to help reduce your cravings.

Reward yourself. Spend some of the money you have saved on cigarettes on something you’ve wanted for a long time.

Remember that every day you remain a non -smoker you are reducing your risk of

heart disease, cancer and lung damage.

If your cravings are really getting you down, talk to a doctor or pharmacist about other medications that may help you quit.
