Beauval Cap-C Submitted by Yvonne Roy Hello to the parents and caregivers of children aged 0-6 years. CAPC is designed to help communities develop programs for children ages 0-6 plus their families. Anyone can come to the programs as it take a whole community to raise a child. Programs promote the health and social development of children through prenatal, infancy and early childhood periods. Children have the right to develop to their full potential. CAPC helps to strengthen families and empowers them as they develop knowledge and skills through programming that meet their needs. Parenting or care giving is a hard job but it can be a very rewarding experience. We, at CAPC, want to help you and your family by providing you with the support and resources you may need. CAPC is located at the Sister Simard Centre. These are just some of the activities that you the parent or caregiver can do: Cooking – Learn how to make stews, pizzas, soups, etc. from a variety of recipes. Baking – Buns, fingers, cakes, pies, etc., and you get to take your cooking or baking stuff home for your family to sample. Crafts and stuff – Various instructors come in on Wednesday afternoons to teach you crafts such as: Knitting, crocheting beadwork, wall hangings, sewing, making quilts and whatever else you want to make. All materials and supplies are provided free or charge and you can take your projects home when you are done. There is also papertole, scrapbooking, sewing on the machine, mending, quilting, or whatever else you are interested in. There is a small fee for papertole as its too expensive to buy material and the

frames. Papertole/Craft night is held at the Aboriginal Headstart building on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Prenatal classes – In partnership with KYRH & Kids First North, we offer classes providing information on prenatal health care and promote proper nutrition including distribution of milk and juice coupons plus the Good Food Boxes. Moms-n-Tots – On Mondays and Thursdays, in cooperation with the Aboriginal Headstart staff, I take part with the children’s activities that promote and improve their social skills. Also, I have the opportunity to meet with the moms. Once a month parents get together to socialize and share information along with a potluck meal. Computer Skills – In partnership with the school, we will be having basic computer training at least once a week in the evenings. Keep you posted when it is going to be held. Grandparents/Elders Involvement – come and visit and take part in the activities to talk about traditional roles and responsibilities of parenting and offer story telling to the participants. Parent Group Sessions – In partnership with Kids First North, we offer creating awareness of programs. Material is provided on various topics such as parenting, budgeting, diabetes, etc. At CAPC we follow a strict code of confidentiality at all times. So what’s said here or discussed here will remain here. Thank you for your cooperation
