Home Management During Outbreaks Of Influenza Good home management and good housekeeping are very effective ways of preventing your family from getting sick with the flu.

The most important way to prevent the flu is by hand washing.

In the home wash your hands:  immediately after coming in the house from work, play, school, store, social gatherings, meetings, visiting. It‟s the first thing you should do when you walk through the door.  Before preparing food  Before eating  After using the bathroom, smoking, blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing, playing with pets  After changing babies‟ diapers and clothing  Cough and sneeze into a tissue or your sleeve or elbow or inside your shirt.

This is called cough etiquette or cough hygiene.

Personal Items:  If at all possible, try to provide each family member with his or her own towel. If that is not possible, try to wash the laundry often.  Try not to share dishes or eating utensils, keep the dishes washed and put away.  Discourage spitting, except into tissue or toilet paper that is thrown in the garbage or flushed.  Don‟t allow your little children to play

with other children‟s toys that might be chewed or sucked on.  If someone has the flu, they need to have their own personal items kept away from others.

Personal Touching:  People with the flu should avoid kissing anyone, including babies  People without the flu should avoid kissing people who have the flu.  Do not share smokes or drinks.  A person with the flu should stay home until they feel well.

Housekeeping: Good housekeeping includes:  Wiping down places that are touched frequently such as the kitchen counter, taps, fridge, door knobs, telephone  Keeping food covered and refrigerated.  Keeping the kitchen and eating places clean, wiping of the table before and after meals.  Disposing of garbage often.

Use general household cleaner such as Mr. Clean, Pine sol, Lysol or other liquid cleaner and mix it according to directions, usually 1/4 cup to half of an ice cream pail of water.

You can use bleach (Javex) but mix it 1 ounce (1/8th cup) in an ice cream sized pail of water.

Wash dish cloths, dish towels and cleaning rags often, because if they are soiled they will spread germs.

The following 8 & under hockey players: Darius Roy, Josh Misponas, Tristan Durocher, Connor Campbell, Joshua Malbeuf, Maurice Venne, Jacob Wuttunee, Draydon Desjarlais, Luke Roy, Nick Cook, Jake Roy, Kyle Burnouf, and Tyrell Laliberte would like this opportunity to publically thank and acknowledge the following people who believe in them and their ability to succeed in whatever they choose to aspire in: Thank You to all of the people in Beauval who donated to our bottle drive we raised over $410 and we paid for ice time this week and a few days next week at Canoe Lake plus our juice, water, and snacks! Extra special thanks to Larry Roy, „Queenie‟, and Warren Lafleur for safely transporting the boys and Marcy Lafleur too for making sure the minor sports van was ready to go! Extra special thanks to Larry Roy and Barry Durocher for collaborating together and picking up all our free hockey equipment. Barry picked up the equipment for 11 players hauling it to his place at Saskatoon and Larry drove over there to pick it all up and haul it back. The very next evening at the gym we suited up the boys who wanted to play hockey but did not have the equipment! Thank you to all the above mentioned folks who take the time and energy to make a difference in a little persons‟ life!

We sent out letters to various organizations/businesses in hopes of finding more support – no reply back so we will persevere, stand strong and united and do it on our own! Highway 155 league is not the only league we plan on playing in because their trainers Mallori, Sheldon, and Heather believe these little hockey players can go far playing and learning together! In closing I urge you to – take a little time with your children, shut off that game and do something active and fun together! There‟s nothing quite like a young person openly exclaiming „that was the best time of my life‟ and knowing that you made that effort without really expecting anything back from it – just that simple pleasure!

I have been in contact with the Public Health Inspector and our Local Health Authority that there is no need for alarm. I want to reassure you that we are doing our part in keeping the school sanitized. I am also letting the teachers and students know that if they are sick they are encouraged to stay home.

We are monitoring the attendance daily and we will keep the public informed.
