Life goes on with many changes, Joy and sorrow, smiles and tears, But your memory is ever cherished with the passing of the years.

Every December 6th, since one tragic day in 1989 when 14 women were killed at the Ecole Polytechnigue in Montreal, Canadians come together both to remember those who were lost and to pledge action to end violence against women.

Sadly in our nation and beyond, women continue to be the victims of violence, often for no reason other than the fact they are women.

“Violence against women is a global epidemic.” said Jill Arnott, board members of the Prairies Lily Feminist Society and organizer with the University of Regina’s Women’s Centre. “In all countries and in all communities across the globe there is still work to do.

According to Statistics Canada, in 2007 there were approximately 33,400 reported cases of spousal abuse across the country where women were victimized. 45 women were killed by their spouses in 2008.

As part of the National Day of Remembrance and Action, the Canadian Labour Congress has Happy Birthday to these wonderful people launched the Women’s Lives Campaign, which details 14 actions that we can all take to make celebrating their birthday from workplaces more safe and to end violence Dec. 10 - 12, 2010… against women. On Wednesday, December 1st, 2010, on highway 155 at the 18 base line, sometime between 10:00am and 4:00pm, a large 4 man Kawasaki Quad was stolen off a trailer and drove several kilometers before being dumped in the bush. A camo hunting blind worth $200.00 was taken from the quad as well as the keys for the unit.
