Attention Beauval and surrounding areas Residents: The Beauval Fire Department would like to encourage you to talk to your family members, children and other youth that you may see being reckless with fire. Speak to them about arson, fire safety in all aspects and do not allow them to have access to matches, lighters or any other type of equipment that will cause a fire such as fire crackers and/or fireworks.

It is very dry out there therefore, we cannot stress enough the dangers of grass fires as they burn and spread quickly and if there is a wind it speeds it up even more. We would also like to inform you that vacant buildings are not targets for destruction (fire), they belong to residents of Beauval and youth must be made aware of this. They may also spread to neighbouring homes and other structures that are not vacant and this would be a major crisis.

We respond to fires as soon as we receive the callouts from dispatch but many times we cannot attack it until the power is turned off. This time varies in length depending on whether Sask. Power is dealing with another emergency or not.

Let’s work together to address this concern before we have a major catastrophe in our community.

CHALLENGING YEAR FOR SGI CANADA AND THE SASKATCHEWAN AUTO FUND Storm claims and volatile investment markets significantly impacted the bottom lines of SGI CANADA and the Saskatchewan Auto Fund in 2011.

SGI released its financial and operational highlights today when the 2011 annual reports for both entities were tabled in the Legislative Assembly.

SGI CANADA is the competitive arm of SGI, selling property and casualty insurance in seven provinces. The Saskatchewan Auto Fund is the self-sustaining, compulsory auto insurance plan administered by SGI on behalf of the province. It is a public fund for motorists, cannot pay dividends and is not intended to earn profits.

SGI CANADA saw a record for net storm claim costs in 2011, totaling $32.4 million. Its out-ofprovince operations experienced a high number of fire losses. All regions posted a small loss, with the exception of Ontario where the Coachman Insurance Company posted a profit of just over $3 million. The consolidated profit for SGI CANADA and its subsidiaries was $441,000.

"These results demonstrate why it's sound business for insurance companies like SGI CANADA to spread their risk across different geographic regions," Minister responsible for SGI Tim McMillan said. "Despite the challenges faced in most regions, including here in Saskatchewan,

SGI CANADA was able to stay in the black thanks to its Ontario operation."

While the Auto Fund faced the same challenges as SGI CANADA in 2011, it benefitted from its Rate Stabilization Reserve (RSR). The RSR acts as a cushion that allows the Auto Fund time for regular and reasonable rate changes.

"Last year the RSR did exactly what it was intended to do," McMillan said. "While the rate proposal currently before the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel addresses longer term trends, the RSR was able to absorb the impact of 2011 claim costs and investment volatility."

The RSR declined by $142.9 million during 2011, but maintained a balance of $134.3 million at the end of the year.

The Auto Fund remained focused on traffic safety in 2011, with the introduction of the Motorcycle Graduated Driver's Licensing Program and the province-wide expansion of the Report Impaired Drivers program. SGI continued to reward safe drivers. Customers earned $104.5 million in discounts under the Safe Driver Recognition and Business Recognition programs in 2011, an increase from $97.6 million in 2010.

SASKPOWER HOLDS RATES STEADY AFTER STRONG FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE IN 2011 Due to positive 2011 results and expectations for a continued strong financial performance, Sask. Power will not be seeking a rate increase in 2012. The company made this announcement as it tabled its 2011 Annual Report in the Legislative Assembly today. Sask. Power reported an income of $239 million in 2011, representing an increase in operating income of $16 million over the previous year.

"Sask. Power's decision to not proceed with a rate application in 2012 is good news for our customers and our province's ongoing economic momentum," Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Power Corporation Rob Norris said. "At the same time, in order to continue energizing Saskatchewan's growth, ongoing capital investments - estimated at $1 billion in 2012 - will be needed to meet increasing electricity demand, renew aging infrastructure and invest in environmentally sustainable technologies."

"During a time of record demand, Sask. Power's performance in 2011 exceeded expectations in many areas," Sask. Power President and CEO Robert Watson said. "I'm particularly proud of the extraordinary effort made by all our employees in ensuring we continued to provide safe and reliable power to customers during a year of unprecedented flooding and storms. While we're proud of our financial and operational achievements over the past year, we're committed to continue our efforts to strike a balance between maintaining financial stability, ensuring affordability, delivering cleaner sources of energy and providing security of supply."

Key Sask. Power highlights from 2011 include: $625 million investment in electrical infrastructure - second highest on record. New record set for daily energy consumption. Continuation of Business Renewal Program, with company remaining on pace to save or avoid $2 billion in spending in 10 years. Addition of 112 megawatts (MW) of net capacity the 86 MW gas-fired Spy Hill Generating Station as well as the 26 MW Red Lily Wind Power Facility while completing new transmission, distribution and substation projects. Launch of the world-leading Boundary Dam Integrated Carbon Capture and Storage Demonstration Project. Signing of a MOU with the Government of

Saskatchewan and the newly established First Nations Power Authority (FNPA) that will help the province's First Nations advance power generation projects. Work with the FNPA and Meadow Lake Tribal Council on development of the renewable power Meadow Lake Bio-energy Centre. Selection of 20 new environmentally friendly power projects from more than 300 applications through the second annual Green Options (GO) Partners Program lottery, which will add approximately 50 MW to the grid. Announcement of a $555 million expansion of the natural gas-fired Queen Elizabeth Power Station that will bring its capacity to 630 MW. Completion of an East-West high load corridor to provide a route for large-sized manufactured goods and equipment to pass without power line interference. Completion of a Conservation Potential Review that will help maximize future capacity and customer energy savings. Completion of a new Corporate Customer Strategy designed to assist SaskPower in becoming an even more service-oriented company that treats customers as partners. Continued introduction of new business processes and technologies through the Service Delivery Renewal Program, including the replacement of a more than 25- year-old customer billing system that will anchor more service-improving technologies. Completion of the first full year with recently developed processes that dramatically reduce times to connect new customers to the grid. Sask. Power recognized as one of Canada's best Diversity Employers and one of Saskatchewan's Top Employers. Completion of a five-year Workforce Plan. Development of an industry-leading Drug and Alcohol policy. Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Sask.

STC 2011 ANNUAL REPORT RELEASED

The Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) released its 2011 Annual Report today highlighted by an increase in ridership of more than 7.0 per cent, or almost 20,000 riders when compared to the previous year.

"STC's 2011 Annual Report points to increased passenger results," Minister responsible for STC Jim Reiter said. "I am happy to share this year's report with the people of Saskatchewan."

Other notable highlights of STC's 2011 Annual Report include: the addition of on-board amenities such as the extension of Wi-Fi on coaches; a passenger satisfaction rating of 93 per cent; STC's continued emphasis on environmental friendliness; and the launch of the company's new Ride Rewards passenger loyalty program.

"Most of STC's work has focused on improving the experience of customers," Reiter said. "The ridership growth is attributable to many of these enhancements to STC's business."

Revenue was also up in 2011. STC generated $16.7 million in passenger and parcel revenues, compared to $16.2 million in 2010.

The company used $8.7 million of its 2011 approved operating grant of $8.9 million.

"We take great pride in the on-board experience we offer our customers," STC President and CEO Shawn Grice said. "We have found that passengers who use our services once are very likely to become a repeat customer. We are eager to show Saskatchewan how clean, safe and comfortable our coaches are."
