Éditorial A l’heure où j’écris ces lignes, la menace des inondations qui ont déjà fait tant de ravages continue de peser sur le centre de Bangkok, et chaque jour l’on a le cœur serré en voyant les images bouleversantes de malheureux qui luttent pour défendre leurs vies, leurs maisons et leurs biens contre l’arrivée des flots. On ne peut qu’espérer que la nouvelle année verra enfin arriver la décrue et que nous pourrons ensemble fêter les 100 ans de notre Alliance française de Bangkok. Pour le moment, toutes les manifestations prévues sont maintenues. Vous trouverez plus loin dans notre magazine la liste des événements ainsi que l’annonce du programme de “La Fête 2012”. Mais il paraît vain et frivole de parler dans l’éditorial de fêtes de fin d’année et des célébrations à venir pour 2012 alors que tant et tant de gens sont recroquevillés dans des refuges à attendre qu’on leur apporte eau et nourriture. Que les semaines à venir permettent à la Thaïlande de surmonter cette épreuve, voici ce que je nous souhaite à tous pour l’année qui commence…

บทบรรณาธิการ ขณะที่ดิฉันกำลังเขียนบทบรรณาธิการอยู่นี้ วิกฤตอุทกภัยที่ก่อให้เกิดความเสียหายอย่างหนักก็ยังคงรุกคืบเข้าสู่ ใจกลางของกรุงเทพมหานครอย่างต่อเนื่อง และทุกวันเราก็ต้องทนมองภาพที่บีบคั้นจิตใจของผู้เคราะห์ร้ายที่ ต้องต่อสู้กับภัยธรรมชาติเพื่อเอาชีวิตรอด เพื่อกอบกู้บ้านเรือนและปกป้องทรัพย์สินจากกระแสน้ำที่เอ่อล้นเข้า มา เราก็คงได้แต่หวังว่าปี ใหม่นี้ น้ำที่ท่วมอยู่น่าจะลดลงในที่สุดและเราก็จะสามารถจัดงานครบรอบ 100 ปี สมาคมฝรั่งเศสกรุงเทพได้ ส่วนในช่วงนี้กิจกรรมต่างๆที่ ได้เตรียมการเอาไว้ก็ยังคงอยู่ตามกำหนดเดิมทุก ประการ ดังที่คุณจะดูได้ ในตารางจัดงานหน้าต่อๆไปในวารสารฉบับนี้และยังมี โปรแกรมงานเทศกาล "La Fête 2012" แจ้งให้คุณได้ทราบก่อนอีกด้วย คงไม่ค่อยเหมาะสมนักที่จะกล่าวถึงงานรื่นเริงเพื่อส่งท้ายปีเก่าและต้อนรับปี ใหม่ ณ ที่นี้และในภาวะที่ผู้คน มากมายมหาศาลต้องอพยพหนีภัยไปอยู่ตามสถานที่พักพิงและรอคอยทั้งน้ำและอาหาร ขอภาวนาให้ประเทศไทยพ้นจากภัยพิบัติครั้งนี้ ในเร็ววัน และนี่คือสิ่งที่ดิฉันตั้งจิตอธิษฐานให้แก่พวกเราทุกคน สำหรับปี ใหม่ที่กำลังจะเริ่มต้นนี้...

Foreword As I write, the floods that have already ravaged areas north of Bangkok are now threatening the capital city’s center, and everyday brings heart wrenching pictures of so many unfortunate people fighting to protect their lives, houses and property against the oncoming flow. One may only hope that the new year will see the waters receding so that we shall be able to celebrate the centennial of the Alliance française Bangkok together. For the time being, all scheduled events should go on as planned, and you will find a list in this issue of our magazine, as well as the announcement of the program of “La Fête 2012”. But it seems both frivolous and callous to devote an editorial to celebrating the holiday season and 2012 when hundreds are huddled up in shelters waiting for water and food. That Thailand overcome these trying times is what I wish all of us for the New Year…

Nouveaux cours de patronage et montage Le Centre d’Art International est ravi d’accueillir un nouveau professeur dans son département Mode. M. Peng Saenpinta a débuté sa formation à l’Alliance française de Bangkok avant d’obtenir son diplôme de l’ESMOD Paris spécialité “Femme luxe”. Il propose des cours de Haute Couture mêlant patronage, construction et finition de tous les types de vêtements féminins jusqu’au produit fini grâce aux machines à coudre du Centre d’Art utilisées sous sa supervision. La formation se déroule sur 2 sessions (120 heures sur 6 mois) en semaine, les après-midi ou en soirée.

Le détroit de Malacca est l’une des principales voies maritimes entre l’Europe ou le Golfe Persique et les ports d’Asie du nord-est (Chine, Japon, Corée). S’il est le passage le plus court entre la Chine et l’Inde, il est également une mer intérieure mettant en contact deux côtes : l’île de Sumatra, la péninsule malaise et Singapour. Autour de cette mer intérieure s’organise un espace régional limité au sud par le détroit de Singapour et l’archipel de Riau (Indonésie) et au nord par l’étendue maritime reliant Aceh à l’isthme de Kra (Thaïlande). Cette conférence se propose de présenter les enjeux du détroit de Malacca tant à l’échelle mondiale, régionale (Asie Orientale) que locale.
Biographie Nathalie Fau est docteur en géographie et Maître de conférences à l’Université Paris 7 / délégation Cnrs. Depuis septembre 2011, elle est en poste à Kuala Lumpur pour l’Irasec et est affiliée au Maritime Institute of Malaysia. Ses travaux s’orientent vers deux thématiques. La première, “les nouvelles centralités en Asie du Sud Est” étudie les espaces construits par la mondialisation. La seconde, “les espaces transfrontaliers et transnationaux en Asie du Sud-Est” analyse le rôle des détroits et des espaces maritimes dans l’intégration régionale de l’Asie du Sud-Est. Nathalie Fau a récemment publié Etre malais de part et d’autre du détroit de Malacca, approche transfrontalière, Aséanie (2009).

Weekend cinéma français en plein air Pour la quatrième année consécutive, l’Alliance proposera la projection de deux grands films français au parc Lumpini. La Belle et la Bête Pour l’offrir à sa fille, le père de la Belle cueille, sans le savoir, une rose appartenant au jardin de la Bête, qui s’en offense. Afin de sauver son père, la Belle accepte de partir vivre au château de la Bête. Ce film fantastique, sorti en 1946, offre un aperçu du génie de son réalisateur, Jean Cocteau, grâce aux nombreuses innovations qui brisent les standards de l’époque. Cocteau réussit ici à faire naître chez le spectateur un sentiment de magie et d’ensorcellement…

Réalisé par Jean-Paul Rappeneau, sorti en 1990, Cyrano est une adaptation de la pièce de théâtre d’Edmond Rostand. En 1640, le poète et fin bretteur Cyrano de Bergerac (interprété par Gérard Depardieu) est amoureux de sa cousine Roxane. Hélas la nature l’a doté d’un nez disproportionné et Cyrano se désespère de ne pouvoir avouer son amour. Christian de Neuvillette est lui aussi amoureux de Roxane, mais, n’étant pas aussi fin d’esprit, il demande à Cyrano de l’aider à conquérir le cœur de la belle.

Outdoor French Cinema Weekend For the fourth consecutive year, the Alliance française will present two acclaimed French films in Lumpini Park. “La Belle et la Bête,” or “Beauty and the Beast” Wanting to give his daughter a rose, Beauty’s father inadvertently picks a flower in the garden of the Beast who takes offense. To save her father’s life, Beauty agrees to live in the Beast’s castle. This fantasy film released in 1946 shows the brilliance of poet Jean Cocteau as a filmmaker who used techniques and special effects which set a new standard at the time. This masterpiece will transport the audience into a world of magic and enchantment.

“Cyrano de Bergerac” Directed by Jean-Paul Rappeneau and released in 1990, “Cyrano de Bergerac” is a film adaptation of the 1897 play by French poet Edmond Rostand. In the story taking place in 1640, poet and swashbuckler Cyrano de Bergerac, played in the film by award-winning actor Gérard Depardieu, is in love with his cousin Roxane. Unfortunately endowed with a disproportionately large nose, Cyrano despairs of being able to declare his love. Christian de Neuvillette is also in love with Roxane but, since he does not have Cyrano’s wit or talent, he asks him for his help to win the lady’s heart.

Après des études au conservatoire de Toulouse, Paul Lay obtient son diplôme de fin d’études supérieures au sein du département Jazz et Musiques Improvisées au CNSM de Paris en 2006. Il y poursuit un cycle de perfectionnement en collaboration avec Riccardo del Fra, contrebassiste reconnu pour ses compositions destinées à la scène et au cinéma. Paul travaille alors avec Joey Baron, Archie Shepp, ou encore Michel Portal. Son talent est vite reconnu et il sera lauréat de nombreux concours tel que le Concours International Piano-Jazz de Moscou en 2005 et obtiendra le Prix Soliste au Concours National de Jazz de la Défense en 2008.
Un pianiste itinÉrant Paul Lay ne se contente pas d’être un soliste d’exception puisqu’il crée deux formations auxquelles il participe et qu’il dirige : Into the Lines (piano-trombone-saxophone) et Paul Lay Trio (piano-basse-batterie) avec lequel il sort l’album Unveiling. Il se produit également avec d’autres artistes et en récital en France, mais également à New York, Toronto, Berlin et effectue des tournées en Amérique Centrale avec le soutien de Culturesfrance. Avec ce premier disque, Paul Lay s’affirme déjà comme l’un des jeunes pianistes majeurs de sa génération.

หลังจบจากโรงเรียนดนตรีที่เมืองตูลูสแล้ว ปอล เลย์ก็มาเรียนต่อด้านแจ๊สและการเล่นดนตรีสดที่ CNSM ณ กรุงปารีสจนสำเร็จการศึกษาในปี ค.ศ. 2006 ต่อมาได้เข้าคอร์สแจ๊สและ การเล่นดนตรีสดชั้นสูงที่ CNSM ร่วมกับริคาร์ โด เดล ฟรา นักดับเบิ้ลเบสซึ่งโด่งดังจากการ แต่งเพลงละครเวทีและภาพยนตร์ จากนั้น ปอลก็ ได้ร่วมงานกับโจอี้ บารงน์ อาร์ซี เซ็บบ์ หรือแม้แต่มิแชล ปอร์ตาล ปอลใช้เวลาไม่นานก็ทำให้ผู้คนยอมรับในความสามารถทางดนตรี เขาได้รับรางวัลทางดนตรีมากมาย เช่น รางวัลจากการแข่งขันเปียโน-แจ๊สระดับโลกที่กรุง มอสโคว์ ในปี ค.ศ. 2005 รางวัลชนะเลิศเดี่ยวเปียโนจากการแข่งขันดนตรีแจ๊สระดับชาติที่ ลา เดฟ็องซ์ ในปี ค.ศ. 2008 เป็นต้น

Growing international recognition After studying at the music school Conservatoire de Toulouse in Southwestern France, Paul Lay attended Paris’ music school Conservatoire national supérieur de musique where he graduated in jazz and music improvisation in 2006. He then continued to study, working with Riccardo del Fra, a bass player famous for his compositions for film and stage. Lay started playing with musicians such as jazz drummer Joey Baron, jazz saxophonist Archie Shepp, and composer, saxophonist and clarinetist Michel Portal. His talent was soon recognized, and he began collecting awards at competitions such as the Moscow International Jazz Piano Competition in 2005. He also received the soloist prize in France’s national competition Concours National de Jazz de la Défense in 2008. A touring pianist Paul Lay is not just an exceptional soloist as he has set up two groups which he conducts and plays with: Into the Lines (piano, trombone, saxophone) and the Paul Lay Trio (piano, bass, drums) with whom he recorded the album “Unveiling.” He also performs with others musicians; he has given concerts in France as well as in New York, Toronto and Berlin, and toured Central America with the support of the French government agency Culturesfrance. With this first album, Paul Lay is poised to become one of his generation’s leading pianists.
“24 heures de la vie d’une femme” En janvier prochain, c’est “côté jardin” que la Troupe des deux Mondes interprétera “24 heures de la vie d’une femme”, magnifique monologue adapté de la nouvelle de Stefan Zweig, mis en scène par David Drai, et qui marquera le début des festivités du centenaire de l’Alliance française de Bangkok.

Au début du XXe siècle, en villégiature dans une pension de famille de la Riviera, une vieille dame de l’aristocratie anglaise, au passé irréprochable, égraine ses souvenirs. Le poids d’un événement très “singulier” qui pèse sur sa conscience depuis un quart de siècle, la pousse à faire l’étrange tentative de s’absoudre elle-même en nous prenant pour confidents, et de se délivrer ainsi d’un secret qui n’aura occupé que 24 heures sur 67 ans de sa vie. 24 heures seulement… qui furent pourtant “plus émouvantes que tout le jeu du monde et qui bouleversèrent son destin pour des années”. En 1912, jeune veuve de 40 ans, Mme C. cherche l’oubli en voyageant, tentant ainsi d’échapper au tourment d’une insupportable solitude. Ces mois de vagabondage la mènent à Monte Carlo où, au casino, ses yeux se posent sur les mains fascinantes d’un jeune joueur empoisonné par la passion du jeu jusqu’à la dernière goutte de son sang. Elles déclenchent en elle un élan de passion, l’entraînant - et “ce fut plus fort qu’elle” - dans

“CôtÉ jardin” C’est dans le décor désuet du début du XXe siècle, dans les jardins de cette pension de famille, que la Troupe des deux Mondes a choisi de vous convier à son nouveau spectacle, dédié cette année aux cent ans de l’existence de l’Alliance française de Bangkok. Dans cette adaptation d’une nouvelle de Stefan Zweig, mise en scène par David Drai, sous la forme d’un monologue théâtral, la comédienne Anne-Sophie Jumelle, magnifiquement investie du personnage, nous délivrera ici toutes les couleurs de la passion et de l’émotion générées durant ces 24 heures. Une plongée onirique dans les souvenirs de ce début du siècle, en 1912 plus exactement, avec l’élégance des mots pleins de pudeur et de désuétude, afin de célébrer ensemble la création de l’Alliance française de Bangkok.

“Twenty-Four Hours in the Life of a Woman” In January, in a garden setting reminiscent of an era long past, the Troupe des deux Mondes theater company will present “24 heures de la vie d’une femme,” a French adaptation of Austrian writer Stefan Zweig’s novella “Twenty-Four Hours in the Life of a Woman.” Staged as a monologue by director David Drai, this performance will kick off the celebrations marking the Alliance française de Bangkok’s 100th anniversary.
In the 1920s, an British aristocrat with an unimpeachable past starts sharing her memories while staying in a boarding house during a holiday on the French Riviera. A very “peculiar” event, which has weighed on her heart for a quarter of a century, leads her to attempt to absolve herself by confiding in the audience and reveal her secret: an event that only filled 24 hours of her 67 years of existence. But 24 hours that were, she says, more poignant than any game in the world and which altered her destiny for years to come. In 1912, Mrs. C, a 40-year-old widow, tries to forget and escape her unbearable solitude by travelling. After months of aimless wanderings, she ends up in Monte Carlo where at the casino, she notices the fascinating hands of a young man obsessed by gambling and willing to stake his life for it. Those hands ignites such a passion in her that “in spite of herself,” she is swept into a whirlwind of madness as an irresistible wish to

succeed and save the soul of this human being makes her take leave of her senses and ignore her conscience.
A garden setting It is in an early 20th-century garden at a boardinghouse that the Troupe des Deux Mondes theater company has elected to set its new show held this year to mark the Alliance française de Bangkok’s 100th anniversary. In this adaptation of Stefan Zweig’s novella staged as a monologue by David Drai, actress Anne-Sophie Jumelle, who superbly interprets the role of Mrs. C, will take the audience through a whole range of emotions as she conveys the powerful passion that the widow experiences in the course of those 24 hours. This will be an invitation to go back in time, to be brought back as in a dream to 1912 and the old-fashioned turns of phrases filled with the social reserve of the era. And thus we shall celebrate together the opening of the Alliance française de Bangkok a century ago.

Un concert sur-mesure Un chœur de 100 chanteurs a été créé tout spécialement à l’initiative de La Fête et du chef de chœur Henri Pompidor afin de célébrer comme il se doit le 100e anniversaire de l’Alliance française de Bangkok. Composé d’étudiants de différentes universités de Thaïlande, le chœur sera accompagné par le Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, véritable ambassadeur culturel de la Thaïlande. Placé sous le haut patronage de son Altesse Royale, le Prince héritier Maha Vajiralongkorn, il sera dirigé pour l’occasion par le grand chef d’orchestre français Jean-Paul Penin. Le concert, qui aura lieu au Théâtre National de Thaïlande, aura pour thème le répertoire musical français du début du XXe siècle. This year, La Fête festival will open with music. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Alliance française de Bangkok, a choir of 100 students singers will join the prestigious Thai orchestra’s musicians in a concert which promises to be an exceptional event! A custom-made concert A choir of 100 singers has been especially created at the initiative of La Fête’s organizers and choir master Henri Pompidor to celebrate in a fitting manner the 100th anniversary of the Alliance française de Bangkok. Made up of students from several Thailand universities, the choir will perform with the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, the great cultural ambassador of Thailand. The orchestra, under the Royal Patronage of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, will play on this occasion under the direction of famous French conductor Jean-Paul Penin. Held at Thailand’s National Theatre, the program will focus on France’s 20th century musical repertoire. By bringing together professional musicians and students singers, both Thai and French, La Fête will exemplify the very meaning of Alliance française. There could not be a better way of celebrating 100 years of existence!

Un mÉlange de poÉsie et d’acrobaties Créée en 2006 la compagnie Ieto regroupe deux artistes professionnels du monde du cirque : Jonathan Guichard, fildefériste issu du Centre national du Cirque de Châlons-en-Champagne et Fnico Feldmann, un acrobate du Lido (centre des arts du cirque à Toulouse). Jonathan laissera ensuite sa place à Mosi Abdu Espinoza Navarro qui se produisait auparavant dans différentes formations au Pérou. Le spectacle Ieto, conçu en 2008, met en scène les deux artistes manipulant planches, corde, bâtons et quelques cales. De suspensions en déséquilibres, d’échafaudages en contrepoids, l’univers amusant et féérique de Ieto ravira petits et grands. Tous retiendront leur souffle devant cette traversée du vide sur un fil, durant laquelle on n’entendra plus, dans le silence de la salle, que les craquements du bois qui travaille…

Nouveau Cirque: Ieto Built around tightropes and tumbles, this show of contemporary “nouveau cirque” was conceived by a tightrope walker and an acrobat.

Blending poetry and circus arts Launched in 2006, the Ieto company includes two professional circus artists: Jonathan Guichard, a tightrope walker who studied at the national circus center Centre national du Cirque in Châlons-enChampagne, and Fnico Feldmann, an acrobat from the Lido circus school, of the Centre municipal des arts du cirque in Toulouse in Southern France. Guichard withdrew from the group and was replaced on stage by Mosi Abdu Espinoza Navarro who had performed with several circus-art companies in Peru. The “Ieto” show was created in 2008 and involves two artists making use of boards, ropes, sticks and some blocks. Flying jumps and tumbles, scaffolding balanced by counterweights as if by magic, Ieto’s playful and enchanting universe will fascinate both young and old who will no doubt hold their breath while the two artists walk on barely visible ropes at great heights, the only sound being that of the planks under strain.

Une exposition photo garantie sans trucage Philippe Ramette est un sculpteur et photographe français né en 1961. Ses expositions sont depuis longtemps axées sur la perte de repères avec lesquels il s’amuse. Ses précédents travaux impliquaient de nombreux objets de la vie quotidienne dans des situations défiant les lois de la gravité. Il poursuit aujourd’hui dans cette voie en se mettant lui-même en scène dans une série de clichés littéralement renversants. Accompagné par le photographe Marc Domage, il élabore des décors où les lois de la gravité n’ont plus leur place et dans lesquels il trouve naturellement sa place. Toujours vêtu de son costume noir, on le découvre tantôt au fond des océans, tantôt marchant sur les murs ou s’élevant dans le ciel simplement retenu par une corde. Aucune de ces photographies ne subit de retouche ou de montage, ce qui les rend d’autant plus fascinantes…

An exhibition of photos that were, honestly, not photoshopped Philippe Ramette is a French sculptor and photographer born in 1961. For a long time, his work focused on the loss of reference points, his pet subject. Previous creations involved daily life objects in gravity defying situations. Today, he furthers this theme by including himself in his photos, creating shots that literally bowl you over. Working with photographer Marc Domage, he stages scenes in which the laws of gravity no longer apply and in which he seems to naturally find his own spot. Always dressed in a black suit, he shows up at the bottom of the sea, walking on walls or levitating skywards the sky only attached to a string. None of these photos were photoshopped or created through montage, which makes them all the more fascinating.

Un adieu à la scène pour un spectacle au succès sans précédent et qui a contribué à la renommée internationale du danseur thaïlandais Pichet Klunchun. “Pichet Klunchun and myself”, Dernière ! Créé en 2004 par Jérôme Bel et Pichet Klunchun puis repris dans La Fête en 2006, le spectacle Pichet Klunchun and Myself a, depuis, connu le succès bien au-delà des frontières thaïlandaises. Jérôme Bel est un personnage central dans la danse contemporaine française. Il a réalisé plus d’une dizaine de pièces, dont The show must go on en 2001 et plus récemment 3Abschied en 2010. Pichet Klunchun est lui l’un des chefs de file de la danse contemporaine thaïlandaise : formé au Khôn par l’un de ses plus grands maîtres, Chaiyot Khummanee, il est reconnu aujourd’hui dans le monde entier pour la justesse de ses chorégraphies et son attachement à mélanger modernité et tradition. Alors que la pièce a tourné dans le monde entier durant sept ans, les deux danseurs ont souhaité arrêter Phichet Klunchun and myself là où tout a commencé. Le 28 février sera donc une date à ne pas manquer pour assister à la toute dernière représentation de cette alliance exemplaire du talent français et thaïlandais !

Trained in khon—Thai classical male masked dance—by one of the foremost khon masters, Chaiyot Khummanee, he acquired an international reputation for the precision of his choreographies and his determination to blend tradition and contemporary styles. After seven years of touring the word with the show, the two dancers have decided to stage “Pichet Klunchun and myself” for the last time where it all started: during La Fête festival. So the very last performance of this show—a perfect example of French and Thai talent uniting to outstanding effect—will take place on February 28. Not to be missed!

Un spectacle facÉtieux et insolite Romain Bermond et Jean-Baptiste Maillet sont les deux acteurs de ce spectacle audacieux qui mélange vidéo, dessin, manipulation et musique pour conter deux histoires empreintes de poésie. Qu’il s’agisse de deux silhouettes à la découverte du monde ou de cette chanteuse de Jazz enlevée par des extra-terrestres, les deux artistes enfilent tour à tour les vestes de dessinateurs, bruiteurs, hommes-orchestre, projectionnistes et conteurs. Les différents tableaux s’enchaînent comme les séquences d’un film ludique, tantôt imaginaire, tantôt narratif, où sons et images s’entremêlent et se répondent… Un film qui se fabrique sous nos yeux, prenant forme dans l’élaboration de dessins projetés sur écran et d’une création musicale composée en direct.

A mischevious and intriguing show Romain Bermond and Jean-Baptiste Maillet are the two performers of this truly original show where they dare to mix video, drawings, object manipulation and music to tell two stories filled with poetry. Whether it is two figures discovering the world or a jazz singer kidnapped by aliens, both artists turn into sketch artists, soundeffect engineers, one-man bands, projectionists and storytellers. One scene leads to the next just like in a movie, at times suggesting a dream world, at others illustrating a story where sounds and images mix and talk to each other. A film is taking shape before our eyes as drawings projected on a screen appear and music is being created live.

Le Hip-Hop à l’honneur Cette édition 2012 de la Fête de la Musique aura lieu le 25 février à Bangkok et proposera une incroyable tête d’affiche, puisqu’il s’agit de l’un des plus grands groupes français de tous les temps : IAM, fameux groupe de rap marseillais ayant vendu plusieurs millions d’albums et désormais reconnu internationalement. Mais la Fête de la Musique ne se résumera pas à un seul concert puisque, dès 14h00, plusieurs groupes amateurs et professionnels se produiront dans les jardins du Museum Siam. Et, à partir de 18h00, l’un des plus célèbres groupes de rap thaïlandais, THAITANIUM, partagera la scène avec le mythique groupe français, pour une explosion de rimes et de musique. Il y a fort à parier que les jardins du Muséum Siam accueilleront une foule de mélomanes peu habituelle pour cette Fête de la Musique inoubliable !

Fête de la Musique Held in France since 1982, the music day Fête de la Musique has become one of La Fête festival’s regular events in Bangkok. The tradition continues this year with, as top billing, one of French hip-hop’s most famous bands: IAM! Spotlights on Hip Hop The 2012 Fête de la Musique, which will be held on February 25 in Bangkok, will feature one of France’s most famous music bands ever: IAM. Famous world wide, this incredible rap band from Marseilles in Southern France has sold millions of albums. As usual, the Fête de la Musique will not only include the one band. At 2 pm, amateur and professional bands will start entertaining the audience in the gardens of the Museum Siam. At 6 pm one of Thailand’s headlining rap groups, Thaitanium, will share the stage with the legendary French band in an outburst of rhymes and music. No doubt the Museum Siam gardens will be filled with an uncommonly large crowd of music fans during this outstanding Fête de la Musique!

100 Years of Cinema To mark its centennial, the Alliance française de Bangkok will present some of French cinema’s most outstanding movies. Film enthusiasts will have the opportunity of either discovering or revisiting masterpieces directed by France’s leading filmmakers such as Henri-Georges Clouzot, Alain Resnais, Maurice Pialat and Eric Rhomer to name but a few. Films will include works as amazing as “Les parapluies de Cherbourg,” or “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg,” “Les amants du pont neuf,” or “The Lovers on the Bridge,” and “Les égarés,” or “Strayed,” which were acclaimed worldwide and became cinema milestones of the last 100 years.

1912-1926 : L’Alliance française de Bangkok à ses débuts Tout au long de l’année 2012, le programme retracera, à travers ses quatre publications, le parcours de l’Alliance française en Thaïlande, de ses débuts à l’hôtel Oriental jusqu’à l’Alliance d’aujourd’hui.
Un nouveau logo pour fêter les 100 ans Afin de marquer dignement son centenaire, l’Alliance française de Bangkok a lancé un concours pour créer un logo spécial centenaire qui figurera sur tous ses documents en 2012. Le gagnant, M. Bamrung Isarakul, s’est vu offrir un billet d’avion aller-retour pour la France. Le design de son logo mêle habilement Tour Eiffel et Wat Arun au symbole de l’infini, marquant ainsi les liens entre la France et la Thaïlande.
L’hôtel Oriental au début du XXe siècle
L’Hôtel Oriental 1912 verra la création du “Comité de l’Alliance française au Siam”. Chargée de promouvoir la langue et la culture française, l’Alliance loue alors 3 pièces au rezde-chaussée de l’Hôtel Oriental qui servent de siège administratif et de bibliothèque. Elle sera officiellement inaugurée le 8 mars 1913 et l’on y jouera Le médecin malgré lui en présence du Prince de Phitsanulok. Cependant, dès le mois d’octobre de la même année, une hausse du loyer oblige l’Alliance à déménager. Commence alors une succession de sauts de puces jusqu’à l’avenue Sathorn…
Une implantation hÉsitante En 1913, L’Alliance s’établie dans un bureau d’avocats, mais peu de documents subsistent sur cette période et jusqu’en 1917 il est probable que l’Alliance ait dû déménager plusieurs fois mais la mobilisation de la Première guerre mondiale en a effacé les traces. Après un séjour rue Surasak, le Comité s’installe en 1923 dans une maison de la rue Klong Poh Yome (ancien nom de l’avenue Sathorn). En 1926, les locaux deviennent trop petits pour accueillir les francophiles toujours de plus en plus nombreux et l’Alliance obtient le droit de s’installer dans une maison de bois appartenant au gouvernement d’Indochine au 29 Sathorn Tai, son emplacement actuel. โลโก้ใหม่สำหรับงาน 100 ปี สมาคมฝรั่งเศสกรุงเทพได้จัดประกวด แข่งขันการออกแบบโลโก้งานร้อยปี สมาคมฝรั่งเศสกรุงเทพ เพื่อเป็นการ เฉลิมฉลองในวาระพิเศษดังกล่าว โลโก้ ที่ชนะเลิศจะปรากฎบนเอกสารทุกฉบับ ของสมาคมฝรั่งเศสตลอดปี ค.ศ. 2012 ผู้ชนะการประกวดซึ่งได้รับรางวัลเป็น ตั๋วเครื่องบินไป-กลับฝรั่งเศส คือ คุณ บำรุง อิศรกุล เขาออกแบบโลโก้ โดยนำ หอไอเฟลและวัดอรุณราชวรารามมา สอดประสานกันอย่างลงตัวในรูป สัญลักษณ์แห่งความเป็นนิรันดร์ บ่ง บอกถึงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศ ฝรั่งเศสและประเทศไทยได้เป็นอย่างดี

1912-1926: the Alliance française de Bangkok’s Early Years Throughout 2012 in its four issues, the Programme will relate the history and development of the Alliance française in Thailand from its beginnings at the Oriental Hotel up to present times.

Oriental Hotel The Alliance française’s Thailand commitee “Comité de l’Alliance française au Siam” was created in 1912. Having the promotion of French language and culture as its mission, the Alliance française rented three rooms on the Oriental Hotel’s ground floor to be used as headquarters and library. The organization was officially launched on March 8, 1913, and the French classic comedy “Le médecin malgré lui,” or “The Unwilling Doctor,” was staged in the presence of HRH Prince Chakrabongse Bhuvanath, Prince of Phitsanulok. However in October of the same year, a rent increase forced the Alliance française to look for a new office. This would be the first of a long series of moves until the organization could finally settle on Sathorn Avenue.
Seeking a permanent home In 1913, the Alliance française secured space in an attorney’s office. Although few documents could be found on that period, it is believed that, until 1917, the organization had to move several times but that details of its whereabouts were lost in the midst the First World War mobilization. After being based for a time on Surasak road, in 1923 the committee secured a house on Klong Poh Yome road—Sathorn avenue’s former name. By 1926, its premises had become too small to accommodate the ever increasing number of Francophiles, and the Alliance française obtained the right to settle in a wooden home belonging to the government of Indochina at 29 Sathorn Thai, its current location.

A new logo to celebrate its 100th anniversary In order to fittingly mark its centennial, the Alliance française de Bangkok had launched a contest for the design of a special centennial logo to appear on all its documents and material in 2012. The winning entry was submitted by Mr. Bamrung Isarakul whose prize included a roundtrip airline ticket to France. His logo cleverly brings the Eiffel Tower and Wat Arun together with the infinity symbol, highlighting in the process the links between France and Thailand.

Le Roi Rama VII fondateur du thÉâtre Amoureux de cinéma et des arts du spectacle, le Roi Rama VII décide en 1933 de construire sur fonds propres le Sala Chalermkrung, dans le but de promouvoir la culture thaïe. A cette époque, le lieu crée une attraction connue par-delà les frontières dans le centre historique de Bangkok. Situé non loin de la rivière Chao Phraya, il est alors l’un des plus grands d’Asie et le premier à posséder la climatisation. Il propose des séances de cinéma et des pièces de théâtre dont les fameuses représentations de “Khon”.
Un lieu dÉvouÉ à l’art Depuis son ouverture, le Théâtre Royal Chalermkrung propose tous les jours de nombreuses formes de divertissement et une profonde rénovation en 1992 le dote de la meilleure technologie pour les spectacles modernes : système de son, lasers et système multivision lui permettent ainsi de proposer au public des spectacles de grande qualité.
Les masques de “Khon” Le théâtre est renommé pour ses pièces originales de danse masquées “Khon”. Issues de la mythologie du Ramakien, les histoires de la figure mythologique Hanuman prennent vie grâce à près de 60 danseurs parés de costumes magnifiques et de masques saisissants de détails. Durant près de deux heures, les spectateurs assistent aux prouesses physiques de la troupe, qui rivalise d’originalité et d’exagération gestuelle pour faire passer des émotions ne pouvant être montrées par les expressions du visage. Alors que cet art était auparavant réservé à l’élite royale, le grand public peut aujourd’hui assister à la danse “Khon” et admirer les masques de papier mâché, faits main. นับตั้งแต่เปิดทำการ โรงละครศาลาเฉลิมกรุงจัดการแสดงหลากหลายรูปแบบ ทุกวัน ต่อมาในปี ค.ศ. 1992 ได้มีการบูรณะปรับปรุงครั้งใหญ่ โดยได้ทำการ ติดตั้งอุปกรณ์ทันสมัยเพื่อใช้จัดการแสดงสมัยใหม่ มีการปรับปรุงระบบเสียง แสง และการทำมัลติวิชั่นเพื่อให้สาธารณชนได้ชมการแสดงคุณภาพเยี่ยม
การแสดงนาฏศิลป์ “โขน”
ศาลาเฉลิมกรุงมีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังจากการแสดงนาฏศิลป์ โขนชุดต่างๆ เรื่องราว เกี่ยวกับตัวละครในตำนานอย่างหนุมานซึ่งมีที่มาจากวรรณคดีเรื่อง ราม เกียรติ์ นั้นจะถูกนำมาถ่ายทอดบนเวทีผ่านนักแสดงกว่า 60 คนที่สวมเครื่อง แต่งกายอันงดงามและสวมหัวโขนซึ่งจัดทำอย่างประณีต เป็นเวลาเกือบสอง ชั่วโมงที่ผู้ชมจะได้ดูการเคลื่อนไหวอันน่าทึ่งของนักแสดงกลุ่มนี้ โดยเป็นการ ร่ายรำด้วยท่วงท่าที่เป็นลักษณะเฉพาะของโขนสลับกับการร่ายรำด้วยท่วงท่า ที่สื่ออารมณ์ต่างๆออกมาอย่างชัดเจน ค่าที่ ไม่สามารถสื่อความรู้สึกผ่านทาง ใบหน้าได้ ในอดีต โขนเป็นการแสดงที่สงวนไว้สำหรับชนชั้นสูงในราชสำนัก แต่ ในปัจจุบัน ผู้ชนทุกกลุ่มสามารถชมการแสดง “โขน” และชื่นชมหัวโขนซึ่ง เป็นงานฝีมือทำจากเปเปอร์มาเช่ ได้ โรงละครอันงดงามซึ่งเปี่ยมด้วยมนต์ขลัง แห่งนี้ที่ตั้งอยู่บริเวณชายขอบของย่านเยาวราชคือสถานที่ที่มีการจัดกิจกรรม ตามพระราชปณิธานของพระบาทสมเด็จพระปกเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 7 ในการธำรงรักษาศิลปวัฒนธรรมอันงดงามมาจนตราบถึงทุกวันนี้...

Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre, which opened in 1933, offers various styles of theater performances in a unique setting. These include Khon, the wonderful male masked-dance drama form .
King Rama VII, the theater’s founder King Rama VII, who was especially fond of cinema and the performing arts, decided in 1933 to build the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre out of his own funds so as to promote Thai culture. The venue immediately became popular with people well beyond Bangkok’s historical center. Located near the Chao Phraya river, the theater was one of the largest performing arts venues in Asia, and was the first to be air conditionned. Nowadays, it programs films and theater including remarkable Khon performances.
A venue devoted to art Since its opening, Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre has presented a daily program of varied performances. Following a major restoration in 1992, it now has all the state-of-the-art equipment required for contemporary shows, from sound system to lasers and multivision system, making it possible to serve as a venue for any quality show involving elaborate special effects.

Khon drama masks The theater is famous for staging outstanding performances of male masked-dance Khon. Based on chapters from the Ramakien epic, Khon stories come to life as up to 60 dancers in shimmering costumes and intricate masks interpret mythological characters such as Hanuman. During nearly two hours, the audience can admire performers’ physical prowess and their uncanny ability to convey emotions through stylized movements and gestures without resorting to facial expressions. This form of theater was once only performed for the royal elite. But today, the general public has the good fortune of being able to see Khon drama and admire dancers’ masks, which are handcrafted of papier mâché. In the magical atmosphere of this lovely theater located on the outskirts of the Chinese neighborhood, King Rama VII’s vision for Thai art and esthetics lives on today.

Dr Jingjai Hanchanlash Président du Comité de l’Alliance française de Bangkok depuis 2004, Dr Jingjai Hanchanlash revient sur son parcours.
Décoré de la Légion d’Honneur En 2009, Dr Jingjai Hanchanlash s’est vu remettre la Légion d’Honneur par l’ancien Ambassadeur de France en Thaïlande, M. Laurent Aublin, pour son implication dans la promotion de la langue et de la culture française en Thaïlande. Instituée le 19 mai 1802 par Napoléon Bonaparte, cette décoration récompense, depuis ses origines, les mérites éminents militaires ou civils rendus à la Nation française.
AFB : Comment vous est venu cet amour de la France ? Lorsque j’ai dû choisir une langue étrangère au cours de mes études, mon père m’a poussé à prendre le français. J’ai donc suivi des cours à l’Assumption College de Bangkok durant 8 ans. Puis, en 1959, je suis parti à Grenoble, où j’ai étudié à l’Institut d’études politiques pendant 4 ans. Par la suite, je suis allé à Caen passer mon doctorat de droit international avant de rentrer en Thaïlande. Toute cette période étudiante en France reste parmi mes meilleurs souvenirs.
AFB : Cette maîtrise de la langue franÇaise vous a-t-elle offerte des opportunitÉs ? Bien sûr, c’est même grâce à cela que j’ai pu aller travailler au Canada. Alors que j’étais employé à l’Agence de coopération pour le développement

international, je me suis vu proposer un poste à Ottawa au CRDI (Centre de recherches pour le développement international). Le choix s’est entre autres porté sur moi car je maîtrisais le français. J’y suis resté 4 ans avant de travailler à Singapour durant 17 ans comme président régional de cette même organisation. Mais comme une majorité de Thaïlandais expatriés, mon pays a fini par me manquer et je suis revenu en Thaïlande. Etant resté très attaché à la langue et la culture française, je me suis tourné vers l’Alliance de Bangkok.
AFB : À quand remonte votre première implication dans l’Alliance et qu’espÉrez-vous pour la suite ? J’ai été membre du Comité pour la première fois en 1968 et ce jusqu’en 1973. A cette époque, l’Alliance était encore dans une maison sur pilotis sur l’avenue Sathorn. A mon retour au pays en 1997, j’ai été en contact avec le service culturel de l’Ambassade de France. Dr Wichian Watanakun m’a ensuite proposé de prendre sa succession à la présidence de l’Alliance. Aujourd’hui le français doit rivaliser avec l’anglais mais également le chinois et le japonais afin de séduire la jeunesse thaïlandaise. Mais la France a toujours la cote et les Thaïlandais ont plus envie de visiter Paris que Londres. Je pense donc qu’en continuant à promouvoir la culture française, l’Alliance française s’assure encore de belles années.

ตอนที่ต้องเลือกเรียนภาษาต่างประเทศ คุณพ่อผมท่านผลักดันให้ ผมเลือกภาษาฝรั่งเศส ผมมาเรียนที่ โรงเรียนอัสสัมชัญกรุงเทพอยู่ 8 ปี พอปีค.ศ. 1959 ก็ ไปเมืองเกรอน็อบเรียนที่สถาบัน Institut d’études politiques อีก 4 ปี จากนั้น ก็ ไปเรียนปริญญาเอก ด้านกฎหมายระหว่างประเทศที่เมืองก็องน์ แล้วถึงค่อยกลับมาเมือง ไทย ช่วงที่เรียนหนังสืออยู่ที่ฝรั่งเศสถือเป็นช่วงเวลาที่ดีที่สุดช่วง หนึ่งของผม

AFB : ท่านได้เข้ามาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของสมาคมฝรั่งเศส ตั้งแต่เมื่อไร และท่านคาดหวังอะไรต่อจากนี้บ้าง
ผมเป็นกรรมการสมาคมฝรั่งเศสครั้งแรกในปีค.ศ. 1968 และเป็นจน ถึงปีค.ศ. 1973 ในยุคนั้น ที่ทำการของสมาคมฝรั่งเศสยังเป็นเรือนไม้ ยกสูงบนถนนสาทรอยู่เลย ตอนกลับมาเมืองไทยปีค.ศ. 1997 ผมได้ ติดต่อพบปะกับฝ่ายวัฒนธรรมและความร่วมมือของสถานเอกอัครราชทูตฝรั่งเศส จากนั้น ดร. วิเชียร วัฒนกุลก็เสนอให้ผม ดำรงตำแหน่งนายกสมาคมฝรั่งเศสต่อจากท่าน ทุกวันนี้ ภาษาฝรั่งเศสต้องแข่งขันกับทั้งภาษาอังกฤษ จีน และญี่ปุ่น เพื่อดึงดูดเด็กไทย อย่างไรก็ดี ฝรั่งเศสก็ยังเป็นประเทศที่คนไทยใฝ่ฝัน ถึงและคนไทยก็อยากจะไปเที่ยวชมปารีสมากกว่าลอนดอน ดังนั้น ผมคิดว่าถ้ายังคงมีการส่งเสริมวัฒนธรรมฝรั่งเศสอยู่อย่างต่อเนื่อง สมาคมฝรั่งเศสก็ยังคงดำรงอยู่ต่อไปได้อีกนาน

President of the Alliance française de Bangkok committee since 2004, Dr. Jingjai Hanchanlash reminisces on his partiality for French culture and his involvement with the Alliance française.
AFB: How did you develop this fondness for France?
Awarded France’s Legion of Honour In 2009, Dr. Jingjai Hanchanlash received France’s most prestigious award, the Legion of Honour, from Laurent Aublin, former French ambassador to Thailand, for his role in the promotion of French language and culture in Thailand. Created on May 19, 1802, by Napoléon Bonaparte, this award has always been bestowed upon eminent military officers and civilians for services rendered to the French Nation.
When came the time to chose a foreign language at school, my father urged me to take French. So I studied French at Bangkok’s Assumption College for eight years. In 1959, I went to Grenoble in Southeastern France and attended the political studies institute Institut d’études politiques for four years. I later went to Caen in northwestern France to do my PhD in international law, and then returned to Thailand. My time as a student in France remains one of my fondest memories.
AFB: Did your mastery of the French language create some opportunities for you? Of course, and this is the reason why I was able to work in Canada. While I was working at Thailand’s Department of Technical and Economic Cooperation, I was offered a position in Ottawa with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). I was chosen, among other reasons, because I spoke French. I was there four years before moving to

Singapore where I served for 17 years as IDRC regional director for Asia and the Pacific. However, like most Thai expatriates, I missed my country and I eventually decided to return to Thailand. And since French culture was still close to my heart, I gravitated towards the Alliance française de Bangkok.
AFB: When did you become involved with the Alliance franÇaise, and what are your goals for the future? I first became a committee member in 1968 and remained on the committee until 1973. At the time, the Alliance française was still located in a house on stilts on Sathorn avenue. When I came back to Thailand in 1997, I got in touch with the Embassy of France’s cultural department. Dr. Wichian Watanakun suggested that I succeed him as Alliance française’s president. Today, French language must compete, not only with English, but also with Chinese and Japanese to attract Thailand’s youth. However France remains the most popular country and the Thai would rather visit Paris than London. I believe that by continuing to promote French culture, the Alliance française will continue to flourish for many good years.

Le Carnaval de Nice 2012 Depuis plus de 700 ans, la ville de Nice résonne chaque hiver au son du Carnaval. Cette année, celui-ci se tiendra du 17 février au 4 mars, pour 15 jours de fêtes sonores, visuelles et odorantes ! Un ÉvÉnement multi-centenaire Les premières traces écrites de cette fête remontent à 1294 lorsque le Duc d’Anjou vient passer les “fêtes de Carnaval dans sa bonne vieille ville de Nice”. A la Renaissance, des grands Carnavals sont menés dans les rues étroites de la ville. A partir de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle, la ville de Nice, devenue capitale de la villégiature hivernale, attire de nombreux Parisiens. Se crée alors un comité des fêtes, chargé de promouvoir la sérénité de la ville auprès des nobles, en cette période de chaos parisien engendré par la Commune. Il développe le Carnaval et crée les premiers concours de défilés de chars, les mascarades et les spectacles de rue. C’est également à cette période qu’une particularité du Carnaval de Nice apparaît : les batailles de fleurs. lancent au public des milliers de fleurs, créant ainsi une pluie de pétales odorante et colorée. La tradition de Carnaval veut également que le dernier jour ait lieu la crémation du “Roi de l’année” : char thématique représentant un Roi pastiche : roi de la communication, roi des fous, roi de la joie et du rire…
Le Roi du Sport Cette année le sport sera le thème central du Carnaval de Nice, en écho à l’actualité Olympique de Londres mais également aux aspirations sportives de la cité. Tout au long des 15 jours de festivités, alterneront batailles de fleurs, défilés de chars et spectacles de rue. Plus de 1 000 musiciens et danseurs, issus des quatre coins du monde, participeront à l’événement. Un grand spectacle clôturera ces deux semaines de fête, suivi par un feu d’artifice sonorisé en accord avec le thème de cette année. Outre ces activités festives, les visiteurs auront également la possibilité de découvrir la ville de Nice en hiver et son climat propice aux défilés carnavalesques !

คาร์นวิ ล ั ทีน ่ ซี ปี 2012 เมืองนีซจัดงานเทศกาลคาร์นิวัลทุกฤดูหนาวมามากกว่า 700 ปีแล้ว ในปีนี้ งานคาร์นิวัลจะจัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 17 กุมภาพันธ์ − 4 มีนาคม รวมแล้วเป็นเวลา 15 วันที่สาธารณชนจะได้รับฟัง รับชม และสูดกลิ่น หอมจากงานนี้!

เทศกาลที่มีมาหลายร้อยปี
มีการเขียนถึงเทศกาลนี้เป็นครั้งแรกในปี ค.ศ. 1294 เมื่อดยุคแห่งอองชู แวะไปร่วมงาน “เทศกาลคาร์นิวัลในเมืองอันเก่าแก่มากอย่างนีซ” พอมา ถึงยุคฟื้นฟูศิลปวิทยา งานคาร์นิวัลใหญ่ๆนิยมจัดตามตรอกของเมือง ตั้ง แต่ครึ่งหลังของศตวรรษที่ 19 เป็นต้นมา เมืองนีซ ซึ่งกลายเป็นเมือง ตากอากาศหน้าหนาว ก็ ได้ต้อนรับนักท่องเที่ยวชาวปารีสจำนวนมาก ด้วยเหตุนี้ จึงมีการตั้งคณะกรรมการจัดงานขึ้น โดยมีหน้าที่ในการ ประชาสัมพันธ์ความเป็นเมืองเงียบสงบของนีซในหมู่ชนชั้นสูง อันเป็น ช่วงเวลาเดียวกับที่เกิดความวุ่นวายที่กรุงปารีสจากคอมมูนปารีส คณะ กรรมการจัดงานได้ปรับเปลี่ยนงานคาร์นิวัลให้อลังการขึ้นและได้ริเริ่ม จัดการประกวดขบวนรถพาเหรด การแต่งแฟนซี และการแสดงบน ท้องถนน ในช่วงเวลาเดียวกันนี้เองที่เอกลักษณ์ของงานคาร์นิวัลที่นีซได้ ถือกำเนิดขึ้น นั่นคือ การโยนดอกไม้ โดยจะมีหนุ่มสาวซึ่งอยู่บนรถ
บุปผชาติคอยโยนดอกไม้หลายพันดอกราวกับฝนแห่งกลีบดอกไม้หลากสีสันและกรุ่นกลิ่นหอมกำจายไปทั่วให้สาธารณชน ตลอดเวลาหลายวันควบคู่ ไปกับขบวนรถพาเหรดแบบเดิม ตามประเพณีของงานคาร์นิวัล วันสุดท้ายของการจัดงานจะเป็นวันที่มีการเผา “ราชาแห่งปี” รถพาเหรดหลักซึ่งเป็น ตัวแทนหัวข้อที่ล้อเลียนประจำปี เช่น ราชาแห่งการสื่อสาร ราชาแห่งความบ้าคลั่ง ราชาแห่งความรื่นเริงและเสียง หัวเราะ เป็นต้น
ราชาแห่งกีฬา
ปีนี้ กีฬาจะเป็นธีมหลักของงานคาร์นิวัลที่นีซ นอกจากจะเพื่อประชาสัมพันธ์งานโอลิมปิกที่ลอนดอนแล้ว ยังเพื่อ เป็นการแสดงปณิธานด้านกีฬาของชาวเมืองนีซด้วย ตลอด 15 วันของการจัดงาน จะมีการโยนดอกไม้ ขบวนพาเหรด และการแสดงบนท้องถนนออกมาแสดงสับเปลี่ยนหมุนเวียนกันไป นักดนตรีและนักเต้นรำมากกว่า 1000 คนจากทุกมุม โลกจะมาร่วมงานนี้ ในพิธีปิด จะมีการแสดงใหญ่ ตามด้วยการจุดพลุเสียงดังกึกก้องสอดคล้องกับธีมหลักของงานปีนี้ นอกเหนือจากกิจกรรมดังกล่าวแล้ว ผู้ชมยังสามารถถือโอกาสนี้มาเที่ยวชมเมืองนีซในฤดูหนาวและมาสัมผัสอากาศเย็น สบายพร้อมรับชมขบวนพาเหรดของงานคาร์นิวัลไปด้วยในตัว ! Nice Carnival 2012 For over seven centuries, the sounds and sparks of carnival have echoed throughout Nice early on in each year. The event will be held from February 17 through March 4 this year, 15 days of celebrations that will be filled with music, pageantry and perfumes in this city of Southeastern France.

The Nice Carnival in figures Carnival parades: - 20 floats measuring12-meter long and 3-meter wide with a height of 8-to14 meters. The first four floats in a parade carry the King, the Queen, Carnavalon and the “Soufflerie,” or blower, a float blowing confetti - two smaller mechanized floats - 60 artist companies - 15 countries represented - 150 “big heads” - 20 tons of confetti Flower battles: - 5,000 fresh flower stems - Floats: 7-by-2 meters and 6-meter high
The first text mentioning this celebration is a document dated from 1294 stating that de Duke of Anjou had spent “the carnival celebrations in his dear old city of Nice.” During the Renaissance, major carnival events were held in the city’s narrow streets. In the mid-19th century, Nice, having become the “must” destination for winter holidays, attracted the titled and wealthy from all over Europe. A committee was created to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the city and promote Nice among the nobility while events such as the Paris Commune in 1871 were unsettling France. This committee established the carnival as a set event and introduced carnival parade contests, costume/fancy dress parties and street activities. During that same period a unique event of the Nice Carnival was launched: flower battles. During several days and in addition to the traditional carnival parades, young people standing on top of floats throw thousands of flowers to spectators, literally showering the streets with multicolored and perfumed flower petals. According to Nice Carnival tradition, the “King of the Year”, such as the king of communication, the king of fools, or the king of joy and laughter is cremated in effigy on the last day of the festivities..
King of Sport Sport will be the Nice Carnival’s main theme this year, a reference to the 2012 London Olympics as well as to the lively sports tradition in Nice. During those 15 days of festivities, events such as flower battles, carnival parades and street shows will be held one after the other. More than 1,000 musicians and dancers from all over the world will take part in the festivities, which will end with a big show and sound-and-light fireworks based on this year’s theme. In addition to taking part in the events, the carnival gives visitors the opportunity of enjoying Nice whose climate is milder than in other parts of Europe and, at this time of year, is ideal for an outdoor carnival!
