The Grind Awards: The Red Carpet Event of the Year

This year The Grind Awards was held on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at The Battle House Renaissance Mobile Hotel & Spa. It featured a Rooftop Terrace Jazz VIP reception at the Battle House on Saturday, November 12, 2022. This two-day event did not only celebrate the individuals who drive our community but also those who have persevered through the pandemic to help our community be restored.

The Grind Awards benefits The Grind’s Young Entrepreneur Academy Inc. which is our 501 c (3) non-profit organization that assists young entrepreneurs with getting their businesses started. Over the past 6 years, they have had great success and growth as a result of this event. It has also caused community relationships to grow in a positive way that has evolved into a new birth of business ownership in our city and surrounding areas.

Daryl and Lynn Campbell have dedicated their lives to making their community better. The Small Business Hub which they affectionately call The Grind.

Being a Small Business Owner is not for the faint of heart. There are plenty of early mornings and late nights. There are times of great excitement and times of unimaginable pressure. But the thought of doing nothing at all is not in the entrepreneur’s toolbox.

It’s the need to meet a need that drives the entrepreneur to Grind It Out!

And Grinding is what a lot of entrepreneurs do. But isn’t that how you sharpen something that can be used to cut? You sharpen something hard with something else hard. The end product is something that is useful for years to come.

The Grind Awards showcases and honors Small Business Owners who have made strides in their business, the community, and their life. The Grind Awards has become the premiere event to honor local small business owners and entrepreneurs.

The Rooftop Terrace Jazz VIP reception at the Battle House provided an intimate setting for local movers and shakers. Powerful Conversations, Positive Connections, and Pleasurable Cocktails set a great tone leading up to the awards ceremony. A great time was had by all as they prepared for the Big day!

The event was one for the record books, selling out to pre-pandemic numbers. The crowd was energized and excited to see who would walk away as the winner of The Grind Awards.

With a phenomenal Emcee, guest presenters and local dance groups, a DJ, and a live band, The Grind Awards was an unforgettable experience that raised the bar for Award shows.

Beautiful Things Out of Place

I was walking down the nature trail at the Greenway in Clarksville, TN. I remembered a conversation, where a friend said I should look for things out of place in nature. Being more mindful, I walked past a green bench with a dirty worn red scarf hanging over it. I also walked past a small red glove laying on a piece of wood on the ground surrounded by leaves. I stopped at both spots and took a picture. I stood there examining, understanding, and being in awe at how these beautiful things “out of place” added to the colorful and contrasting tapestry of life and my living that day.

As I looked at the photos I had just taken, I thought about how we label people and things that are out of place, different, distinct, weird, or awkward. Why can’t those words simply mean people, places, and things have their own UNIQUENESS? When people and things don’t fit our norm by socialization our brains activate our minds to think something is wrong here, why is that there? This doesn’t belong, we immediately get uncomfortable.

When I first saw the red glove I said “oh someone left their glove, why did they leave it there? Next, I realized how pretty it highlighted the ground and the surrounding artwork of leaves. When I saw the scarf on the bench I immediately saw how beautiful the contrasting colors were against the backdrop of a green bench. I said, “someone was sitting here”. Two beautiful things “out of place”.

Are you that person that is OUT OF PLACE right now in life? Think about our beautiful wonderful Savior who came down from heaven. It doesn’t feel good, it’s uncomfortable, you just don’t know what to do with yourself in a total sense. When you are out of place, you try to FIT yourself into the stress, situation, transition, or processes of life. Sometimes you just gotta LET IT BE. It’s adding color, the opportunity to have courage, change, challenge, and contrast in your life.

Jesus Christ who left his glory in eternity was very familiar with being, moving, and living out of place amongst a culture and community of people. Isa53:2-

5 states Jesus had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him. Nothing about his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected. Yet the punishment of his sacrifice that brought us peace with Almighty God was upon his shoulders. Jesus LET IT BE. He came in obedience to do the Father’s will. Heb 5:8 says in his sufferings he learned obedience.

I encourage and challenge you to embrace your UNIQUENESS I encourage you to examine your life and why you feel out of place if you are I encourage you to learn well from what you are facing and going through and keep turning richly towards God. Lk12:51-21

The Butterfly Effect Focus, Faith and Flow

If you can INSPIRE… you can INNOVATE! There is so much that we can accomplish if we prioritize our lives and believe that our purpose is the driving force of who we are and what we are to give back to the world. But we must stay focused and have faith in order to operate in flow to execute the dream that lives in us. Tapping into your unique gifts and staying on the right path will help prepare us to make our greatest impact!

Entrepreneurs are absolute leaders, and at its core it is all about character. We also must recognize that humility is a virtue, a key aspect of character. Leading with your heart is the most powerful model for meaningful change because leaders must always try to do the right thing, for the right reasons, and on purpose. A true leader is authentic and inspirational. As you engage for success in your business, it is important to lead with influence and guidance. Your passion and your gift will inspire others on their journey.

It is important to have a prosperous mindset, which is basically living with the belief that you are worthy of your Divine purpose. Becoming an entrepreneur can be challenging. When you have a prosperous mindset, you set off an energy that will draw people to you that will help you become successful; it is about your attitude and outlook on life. It creates balance - because energy is everything!

However, the secret is to incorporate harmony in your life. I have learned that finding ways in order to balance things out takes more energy than it is to meet it in the middle and harmonize with whatever you may be challenged with. To have balance is learning to work through those challenges. To have harmony is to accept the challenges, understand and embrace them in order to have peace within. Yes, to have balance is important; but the key to balance is harmony!

Have you ever stopped to think that Focus takes Focus? I know it may sound funny but it’s true! In order to focus, you must focus! When you say “yes” to living your best life, you will begin to see how life will start working in your favor rather that against you. What you stay focused on will grow.

In order to become more productive and crush your goals, you must be committed to working hard and managing your time well. If you are not careful, distractions can create havoc in your daily life that will cause you to lose focus.

We have at our fingertips the ability to inspire, empower and instill encouragement of dignity, happiness, and hope by collaborating and putting together strengths that will empower others to achieve further goals to become the best versions of themselves.

When you inspire someone, the blessing will come back to you. Put your team and client’s needs first, and if you work extremely hard to protect their interests, you will prove to them that you are committed and passionate about their success.

A leader’s responsibility should be to take the time to inspire, influence, motivate, coach, listen, solve problems, make decisions, and create a safe environment where each individual feel energized. Leadership is about inspiring. Good follow up and follow through builds trust and provides value that is meaningful. Be a catalyst for change. In the Golden rule, you treat others as you wish to be treated. In the Platinum rule, you treat others as they wish to be treated.
