The Relentless Cultivation of You Helping You Nurture and Grow

To cultivate is “to nurture and help grow.” Farmers cultivate crops, fundraising professionals cultivate donors, and celebrities cultivate their images. Ultimately, when you cultivate something, you develop it into something greater than it originally was. The Relentless Cultivation of You! is an intriguing approach and unique perspective to understanding some of the elements from our past and how they help to shape our personality, our core values, and the development, implementation, and pursuit of plans for our present and future. These elements are the road-signs or markers along the path of our journey that often establish the route we take, and this understanding gives clarity to why several people pursuing the same goal may take distinctly different paths. In the pages that follow, I will incorporate glimpses of my story, experiences, family makeup, and family influences both positive and negative, as well as contrast my personal strengths and weaknesses and my success and failures, with the goal of creating a connection by making the material relatable and in many cases, attainable for you. Toward that end, the book has been presented in two distinct sections:   Section One (chapters 1-4) addresses understanding and cultivating the uniqueness of the “who” and the “why” in each of us.   • Section Two (chapters 5-8) focuses on certain learned or acquired principles of business leadership and cultivating the leader in each of us. While each section contains information of great value, along with opinion pieces provided by those who know me well, the content can only be transformative if you make the decision to apply it constructively and implement the lessons learned so that you can be[1]gin to nurture and develop the “you” within You! Let’s do this!

5 Tips for Successful Holidays During COVID-19 December is by far my favorite month of the year. There is an anniversary, a birthday and of course the holiday itself - all taken place in the same month. It’s a time I look forward to each year. However, the holidays will look different this year, but different can be special. The winter holiday season is a deeply meaningful time for many people. It is a season of joy, excitement, sharing happiness, gatherings, and showing loved ones that they are thought of or appreciated. However, even in a normal year, the holidays can also bring up negative emotions, such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, and stress. We all know that this year brings the added challenge of a global pandemic, which has placed us in the position of having to make difficult choices and sacrifices in order to protect ourselves and our loved ones. The holidays are going to look different this year, but different does not mean that they cannot be just as special. Here are a few tips for maintaining emotional well-being and increasing the likelihood of holiday success: 1. Plan ahead. Being proactive and making organized plans can reduce stress. Make a list of things you need to do and when you would like to have them done. Think about the people you would like to gift or reach out to. Perhaps you may expand your circle this year to include more people. Staying socially connecting is so important during this time of physical distancing. Arrange to connect with those that bring you joy. 2. Be flexible. Understand that although you may plan for things, something could happen to throw you off course. These are unprecedented times. Maintaining mental flexibility will allow you to move in an alternate direction more easily if needed. Rigidity and inflexibility will be more likely to result in stress and other negative emotions. 6

3. Keep traditions. Traditions are customs that we do each year that are typically passed on through generations. Many families have traditions for the holidays that are quite significant and meaningful. At times traditions can connect us to loved ones we have lost. This year, we may have to get creative with how we can keep traditions alive. Or perhaps it is a great time to create a new tradition. For example, you can find a fun virtual game to play with family at a distance. You could pick out a new recipe everyone can follow and then eat together virtually. Involve your family and brainstorm ways to keep the old or develop new traditions. 4. Maintain self-care. Make time to take care of yourself. Exercise regularly, follow good sleep hygiene, eat well, and engage in hobbies that bring you pleasure. These are key ingredients to psychological well-being. 5. Simplify. Your normal may be to have big celebrations with lots of homemade foods and neatly wrapped presents, waiting to be distributed. Cut back where you can. For example, although it may be satisfying to cook for your family, this may be the year to order prepared food. Consider gift cards instead of trying to find that “perfect gift.” Take on what you can and aim for happiness, not perfection. We may not know what to expect of the holidays this year, but with these strategies in mind, we can work to uphold the positive emotions the season can bring. If you do find yourself struggling, please reach out to a family member, a friend, or mental health professional for support. Happy holidays to you and your families! Focus, Faith and Flow If you can INSPIRE… you can INNOVATE! There is so much that we can accomplish if we prioritize our lives and believe that our purpose is the driving force of who we are and what we are to give back to the world. But we must stay focused and have faith in order to operate in flow to execute the dream that lives in us. Tapping into your unique gifts and staying on the right path will help prepare us to make our greatest impact! Entrepreneurs are absolute leaders, and at its core it is all about character. We also must recognize that humility is a virtue, a key aspect of character. Leading with your heart is the most powerful model for meaningful change because leaders must always try to do the right thing, for the right reasons, and on purpose. A true leader is authentic and inspirational. As you engage for success in your business, it is important to lead with influence and guidance. Your passion and your gift will inspire others on their journey. It is important to have a prosperous mindset, which is basically living with the belief that you are worthy of your Divine purpose. Becoming an entrepreneur can be challenging. When you have a prosperous mindset, you set off an energy that will draw people to you that will help you become successful; it is about your attitude and outlook on life. It creates balance - because energy is everything! However, the secret is to incorporate harmony in your life. I have learned that finding ways in order to balance things out takes more energy than it is to meet it in the middle and harmonize with whatever you may be challenged with. To have balance is learning to work through those challenges. To have harmony is to accept the challenges, understand and embrace them in order to have peace within. Yes, to have balance is important; but the key to balance is harmony! 10

Have you ever stopped to think that Focus takes Focus? I know it may sound funny but it’s true! In order to focus, you must focus! When you say “yes” to living your best life, you will begin to see how life will start working in your favor rather that against you. What you stay focused on will grow. In order to become more productive and crush your goals, you must be committed to working hard and managing your time well. If you are not careful, distractions can create havoc in your daily life that will cause you to lose focus. We have at our fingertips the ability to inspire, empower and instill encouragement of dignity, happiness, and hope by collaborating and putting together strengths that will empower others to achieve further goals to become the best versions of themselves. When you inspire someone, the blessing will come back to you. Put your team and client’s needs first, and if you work extremely hard to protect their interests, you will prove to them that you are committed and passionate about their success. A leader’s responsibility should be to take the time to inspire, influence, motivate, coach, listen, solve problems, make decisions, and create a safe environment where each individual feel energized. Leadership is about inspiring. Good follow up and follow through builds trust and provides value that is meaningful. Be a catalyst for change. In the Golden rule, you treat others as you wish to be treated. In the Platinum rule, you treat others as they wish to be treated.
