Branding You Back To Life
“The greatest failure in life is being successful in the wrong assignment.” Dr. Myles Munroe When I first came across Dr. Myles Monroe’s quote, I was sitting in my office day dreaming about what life would be like building my own business as a professional speaker & personal brand business coach. I often looked my nice big office window, thinking about the day I would get to truly own my time & do what I most earnestly love. You see, I had successfully completed and accomplished what my family and society encouraged me to do. I graduated from high school, went on to college, earned both BS & MS degrees, & landed several great paying jobs with great benefits. However, something was missing. Something kept calling to me & letting me know that there was more to my life than what I was experiencing. What was that something? It was purpose. It was life calling to me & saying, you can be successful or you can be significant. Not really knowing the difference between the two words, I researched to find out. In simple language, success is what you think about yourself & your accomplishments. Significance, is the value one provides to others that makes a lasting impact on & in another’s life. I wanted to be significant, & the only way I could be significant was to align myself with purpose. I earnestly desired to inspire & transform lives by teaching & guiding others how to hone their gifts & talents, maximize their genius & monetize their “Shine”. Why? I am a firm believer in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven”

Today, I can honestly say I’m on assignment. That job I was day dreaming at, laid me off in 2014. What a tremendous blessing that was. It ushered me into my purpose. It opened the door for me to fulfill my purpose at a much greater level. It provided me an opportunity to position myself as a professional speaker and personal brand expert. The day I was laid off (April 4, 20140 was the day Markeith Braden & Company, LLC was birthed, to help entrepreneur coaches, speakers, authors, trainers & consultants to Maximize & Monetize Their Personal Brand, So They Shift from Being the Best Kept Secret, To Known & Paid for Their Expertise. Getting to Know Yourself
You may think that this is a waste of time, but I assure you that aside from getting to know God, getting to know yourself is the second most important thing you can do for yourself and those around you. There will be a series of personal thought provoking questions to help you begin to frame who you are in light of who God is, and what He says about you. I’m Excited!!! So let’s get started! Who are you? Often times when we hear this question our mind goes on either a long journey or maybe a relatively short one. Some people define themselves in a few words while others break out the PowerPoint or point to their facebook page. Whatever definition you use, we are going to take a closer look at it. Do you define yourself by the things you have? By the people you know? By the amount of money tied to your name? Or is you self-definition more internal? Do you define yourself as a caring person? An anger person? A selfless or selfish person? Are you define by one moment in your past or is you definition being updated every day? We soon discover that our definition is a mixture of both past encounters and present affairs. When Jacob wrestled with the angel in Genesis 32 There an interesting question posed by The Lord in the 27 verse. Genesis 32:27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. For those who don’t know, the name Jacob means Con-man, trickster, and swindler. He had defined himself by what other people had called him. He was living up to the name giving Him. I heard in a Tyler Perry play the quote, “It’s not what they call you, but what you answer to”. God then proceeds to change his name: Genesis 32:28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. God changed his name from “Cheat” to “Chief ”, from “Fraud” to “Faithful”, from “Jacob” to “Israel”. I know you have your own definition of who you claim to be, but does it line up with what God’s says about you? Homework: On a piece of a paper, write down everything about yourself, the good and the bad. Have someone that you know and trust evaluate your list and have then edit it as needed. Be honest. You can’t get the help you need by lying, especially to yourself.

Continued from page 11 I know I said that we were going to look at what God says about you in general and then more specifically, but God has a way of changing your plans. I was talking to a dear friend of mine and God gave me an excellent illustration about knowing yourself. Let’s say that you use to be an alcoholic. You then meet a coworker who just started at your job and over time you become friends. Six months after you meet you fide out that to earn some extra money your coworker has started moonlighting as a bartender. They know nothing about your past battles with alcohol and have no clue that there is a weakness for you in that area. But you notice that some days they come into work with a hint of Jack Daniels in their skin, a slight smell of bar smoke in their clothes. These little items being to stir up memories of when alcohol dominated you life and they threaten the progress that you have already made. You find yourself thinking more and more about the environment that your coworker moonlights in and it’s becomes more and more of a struggle for you for to focus on heading in the right direction because of your pass tendencies. So you decided to put some distance between you and your coworker because you find your grip on an alcohol free life starting to slip. You start avoiding them when you see them coming, you turn the corner and hastily walk in the opposite direction to avoid even a casual conversation. They start to wonder if something is wrong and you can’t seem to bring yourself to admit your past misgivings. Finally, you stop by their desk and tell them of your past life and current struggles. You share with them the need you have to distance yourself from them because of the temptation they bring. They are saddened by what they hear but they understand. They are willing to support you in your efforts of not returning to that life even if it means distancing themselves from you. You appreciate their understanding and you are relieved that you have not wounded someone with your actions. You know yourself well enough to know that you are not strong enough to deal with that now. You have made a study of your own limitation and have adjusted accordingly. This example was with alcohol but you can replace it with whatever might be plaguing you. Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:22
