How we are creating a stronger connection with our parent company, Ramudden Global

Welcome

Message from Tim Cockayne

As part of Ramudden Global our mission is ‘To get people home safely every day’, so it’s a real accolade to be recognised by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) with their prestigious annual Construction Engineering Sector Award.

I want to express my gratitude to Jamie Bowen, Phil Last and team for a great submission, but also to every employee who contributes daily to making sure we achieve our mission.

As part of our ongoing commitment to innovation, I’m excited to see the launch of our new range of site safety products into the UK. The introduction of the SVEA and Urban Barrier systems represents an important milestone for our business and a closer alignment to other parts of the Ramudden Global group. These new products help raise the benchmark in terms of enhanced containment and efficiency on site.

Our Enhanced Mobile Carriageway Closure (EMCC) technique continues to gain traction with a steady rise in utilisation month on month. Since the beginning of February, all traffic management providers in the UK can now deliver this new way of working, bringing improved safety, operational efficiencies, carbon reductions and a better journey experience for road users. I’d like to give a special mention to Carl Armsworth for his commitment and hard work in getting EMCC adoption and training rolled out across the business.

“The introduction of the SVEA and Urban Barrier systems represents an important milestone for our business and a closer alignment to other parts of the Ramudden Global group.”

In our efforts to reduce carbon emissions, we’ve achieved an 18% reduction in carbon intensity compared to our baseline. Innovations like Intellitag and EMCC play a key role, delivering carbon reduction to our clients and customers by streamlining processes and improving efficiency on site. We still have a long way to go to achieve our net zero goals, but by working together to identify and seize opportunities to cut emissions across our depots and sites, we can continue to make real progress towards building a more sustainable future.

It’s exciting times for Consilium, who have moved into their new offices in the iconic Fort Dunlop building in Birmingham. Having rapidly outgrown their Tyburn Road office, their new premises offers plenty of room for expansion with modern facilities and a collaborative workspace.

I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Tim Walmsley and his team from UDP. On April 11th, UDP officially transferred over to Chevron TM, expanding our capabilities and reach in low-speed. With three depots located in Leicester, Salford, and Barnsley, they bring a strong reputation for quality and customer service. As part of Chevron TM, they will continue to support our growth in the urban and low-speed sectors.

Finally, I’m proud to announce that our social value commitment to supporting Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) made a substantial contribution to National Highways achieving its goal of spending over £1 million with their Sign shop based in Kent. This is a great cause that provides employment for wounded ex-service personnel.

All in a Day’s Work

Record Breaking

Chevron TM in West Drayton recently worked with a new client, Allelys, who specialise in heavy haulage. They needed to move a 327.5t generator from Tilbury Docks to Millbrook Power Station. This involved the transportation of three abnormal loads on three separate occasions. These loads were up to 50 feet long and used 36 axles in a single movement, making them the heaviest and longest loads ever moved on the M25.

This was an exceptionally complex and challenging operation covering 127 kilometres and taking 18 hours to complete.

Chevron TM managed the road closures and diversions which impacted motorists in Essex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. The three operations were extremely successful and received positive feedback from the client and wider industry. Neil Hopkins Contracts Manager for Allelys commented: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed seeing first-hand the phenomenal effort from the Allelys team, client team, stakeholders, authorities and suppliers, who have come together to ensure the safe delivery of this critical infrastructure.”

A fantastic effort by all involved!

Stormy Weather

The CGS team in the Midlands were called out to a mature oak tree that had become unstable and had blown into a live carriageway on the A46 near Evesham. Given the size and location of the tree, the team knew that this was an urgent but challenging removal which required a safe and efficient operation.

Within 4 hours of the call, CGS were on site with the necessary equipment including a 14-tonne excavator fitted with a rotating Vosch grapple saw, whole tree chipper, and bulk trailer for waste removal. A few hours later, the tree was cut up, removed from site and any risk to the general public was eliminated.

Another CGS job well done!

Sunny Weather

With the weather (apparently) getting better, events season has begun with loads of festivals, sporting events, community fairs, agricultural shows and concerts taking place up and down the country. This means a busy few months for our fabulous events teams in Chevron TM and Class One TM who are at the heart of providing traffic management services to some of the biggest and smallest events in the country.

We all know that event TM can make or break an event. Poorly planned or executed traffic management can have a devastating impact on an event, with customer complaints, social media frenzies and loss of repeat customers. This makes the work that our events teams even more important. We deliver time and time again, delivering first-class services and often returning year on year to the same events.

We’re only really building to the summer season but have already delivered TM many events including RaceNation Yeovil Half Marathon, Cambridge Half Marathon, Leicester 10K and Manchester City St George’s Day Parade with plenty more to come over the next few months.

A Caring Force for a Safer World.

Over the past twelve months, we have been rebranding the Chevron Group businesses, to create a stronger connection with our parent company, Ramudden Global.

You will have noticed that Chevron TM, Chevron GS and Class One TM are now branded using the three triangles and our new colour palette. We are now working with our barrier businesses to bring them in line with our new corporate image.

This rebrand has been extremely important for our business as it helps consolidate our services, provide clarity for our customers and position us as a successful, professional and forwardlooking business with a strong global network.

Shared Mission

As part of Ramudden Global, we share a single mission which is “to get people home safely every day.” This is not a new mission for the Chevron Group because safety has always been our business.

Our employees are behind road works, construction sites, or industrial work zones, as an unseen workforce who instinctively care about safetysafety of the infrastructure that we rely on every day; safety of our colleagues; safety of our customers and their employees and the safety of road users. We are the unseen workforce who go to work every day to lead by example, deliver on our promises and make sure that everyone gets home safely every day.

Our values

As well as a shared mission, we also share values with Ramudden Global that make us a force for good, a caring force for a safer world.

The Chevron Group businesses are led by entrepreneurs, who have the vision to see that safety is a central pillar on which infrastructures should be built and maintained. We find solutions to fix problems others have been unable to see, and we pioneer ways to make it happen.

We see how to make the world safer, and we care enough to make it happen.

As part of Ramudden Global, we are a team of more than 4,500 people, from across the world, working together to keep people and workers safe. We come from every walk of life – all putting into practice what we know, sharing ideas, leading the industry and, caring enough to make the world that bit safer.

From the small, simpler risks like

closing a path and cutting back a tree, to the larger complexities of maintaining high speed motorways, and planning the safety protocols of huge construction sites, we’re here to put safety first, to care that we do it right and to find new ways of working that will get people home safely every day.

Caring Customer-focus Safety Entrepreneurship

A Global Stage!

Ramudden Global recently exhibited at Intertraffic 2024 at the RAI Amsterdam, showcasing the latest in Urban barrier and Digital solutions. The event was busy, informative, collaborative, educational, and fun, with great interest in Ramudden’s range of game-changing site safety and digital products and services that are changing the face of traffic management and infrastructure safety.

Ramudden’s participation at Intertraffic allowed the team to connect with industry professionals from around the world, share knowledge, and demonstrate how it’s innovative solutions are addressing the evolving needs of the traffic management and infrastructure safety sectors. The event provided a valuable platform for Ramudden to highlight its commitment to safety, efficiency, and sustainability, and to explore new opportunities for collaboration and growth on the global stage.

Safer, Greener & More Efficient Work Zones

In 2023, Ramudden Digital was established to bring together the digital expertise that exists across Ramudden Group.

It is made up of some of the world’s leading digital infrastructure safety providers - Ramudden Digital North America (formerly Stinson ITS), HRS in the UK, Signco in Belgium and Netherlands, AVS Digital and Peter Berghaus in Germany, and Ramudden Digital Sweden.

All of these companies are pioneers and innovators, developing digital solutions that improve the journeys and safety of the travelling public, and protect the workers that work on the roads and in critical infrastructure projects. Working together as Ramudden Digital on the global stage, we are delivering solutions that support our shared mission, to get people home safely every day.

Stronger together

By bringing together our businesses under one specialist Ramudden Digital brand, and embracing their individual entrepreneurship, innovation and creative thinking, we can share our expertise and product portfolio with our customers globally. We can offer more of what we do best, to more people and projects, to enhance infrastructure safety on a global scale.

Message from Hans-Olov Blom

“When I was first introduced to the Chevron Group I was immediately impressed by your attitude, your approach to work and your dedication to safety. As we continue to build relationships and work together, I can see that all of this is underpinned by a strong set of values. Safety is your business, you lead by example, you always champion your customers, and you deliver on your promises. These values align perfectly with those of Ramudden Global – Safety, Customer-focus, Caring, Entrepreneurship - and while the wording may differ, ultimately, we work towards the same goal…to get people home safely every day. I am proud that the Chevron Group is part of Ramudden Global and to work with you to be a force for good…a caring force for a safer world.”

We have already started to work together on promoting our services under the single Ramudden Digital brand.

The new website ramuddendigital.com promotes our range of digital products and services under four categories:

• Worker Safety

• Digital Supervision

• Traffic Analysis

• Traffic Control

What’s Happening?

It’s been a busy time around the Chevron Group with the launch of our new Site Safety product category, award nominations at HRS and new business won at Chevron Green Services.

Digital Monitoring

Congratulations to HRS who has been shortlisted in the CIHT Innovation & Technology category for the development of Intellitag® which is changing the face of traffic management delivery.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed on 13th June when the award winner will be announced.

HRS launched Intellitag® in 2023 to provide a digital solution which would move the industry to data-led, eventbased maintenance and minimise the need for two-hourly routine maintenance checks.

Since then, Intellitag® has been deployed 120,000 times in the UK. In one example, it was installed on a seven-month scheme on the A1 Biggleswade to deliver a carbonefficient solution while ensuring the safety of the workforce and road users. By replacing the 2-hourly physical maintenance checks with Intellitag®’s monitoring solution, HRS eliminated 107,800 miles of physical maintenance checks and reduced vehicle idling on site. This reduced carbon emissions by 81.10t CO2e. Intellitag® is currently deployed on a National Highways scheme on the M1 Luton to Milton Keynes. This is currently the largest live deployment with 422 signs digitised with Intellitag® technology. Thanks to this technology, maintenance crew workers have been reduced from 8

operatives to 4 which frees up scarce resources for other tasks.

Interest in Intellitag® is growing around the world. HRS joined Ramudden Digital at a number

120,000 deployments of Intellitag® in UK in 2023

25,000 deployments of IIPAWS® in UK in 2023

of global trade shows recently to showcase the Intellitag® technology and the product is already deployed in Sweden and …

Site Safety

Some of you will be aware of our plans to grow our presence in urban areas – If you weren’t aware…don’t worry! This will give you a quick overview as to why and how we are doing this.

So, here’s the ‘why’ - Growing our presence in urban areas is a key objective for this year and beyond, not just for Chevron, but for the wider Ramudden group. For Chevron, urban areas represent an opportunity to gain market share, drive incremental growth and differentiate our business with our offering and capabilities. Also, rental tends to be more profitable than sales or other services, so we can make higher margins in this space.

In terms of ‘how’ - We’ve started by making an investment in hire stock of two Ramudden temporary barrier systems. Both systems offer something new and unique in the UK.

• SVEA Barrier System – Stands for Safe, Versatile, Engineered, Advanced. SVEA is our vehicle restraint system tested to BS EN 1317 class N1. This system is very quick and safe to install and can be used with additional panels to provide privacy and noise protection around work sites.

Winning Ways

• Urban Barrier – Our pedestrian delineation system that offers enhanced levels of safety. Tested to new EU standards for ‘Active Travel’, a hot topic in the UK right now.

All equipment is now in stock in Brentwood to support our plans to focus on London initially. In time, we will bring other depots online to give us better coverage, along with other Ramudden safety products.

Prior to launch we have delivered three projects successfully, all with positive feedback from the clients. We’ve even had some SVEA Barriers installed on HS2, which will soon be featuring in our launch campaign.

Our launch campaign is underway with phase one marketing activities

It’s been a busy few months for CGS with a number of new business wins. They welcomed Arcadis and Luton Council to their client list and increased work with existing clients including Ringway in Hertfordshire and Anglian Water in the East. Chevron Green Consultancy division has been appointed to a project for Landmarc as well as receiving an order for 120 bat roost assessments which has been keeping everyone busy.

Chevron Green Service’s mission this year has been to diversify beyond highways so this is a strong start and testament to collaboration across the Chevron Group, particularly Ewen Frazer and Stuart Abram from the Bid team who helped put together the winning tenders.

aimed at setting the scene by explaining our growth journey, helping to position what’s coming –the product launches. So, keep your eyes on our social media and be sure to like/comment/share!

New Moves

New Offices

Best wishes to Consilium Technical Services who have moved to new offices in Birmingham.

This is a significant move which reflects the continuing growth at Consilium. The new office will support further expansion, allowing them to add to their team, strengthen relationships with existing clients and welcome new customers.

The new facility is a modern, workspace which offers meeting space to other Group business units if required.

Their new address is: Unit 101, Fort Dunlop, Fort Parkway, Birmingham B24 9FD

We wish Daryl and the Consilium team every success as they settle into their new premises and begin the next stage of their business growth.

Branded Word and PowerPoint templates

Did you know that we have a wide range of branded templates featuring with the Chevron TM, Chevron GS, Class One TM and Chevron Group logos?

Each template is formatted to comply with our brand guidelines and standards such as the Chevron/Ramudden colour palette, font style and sizing.

How to access the templates

Word and PowerPoint templates are available from within the Word and PowerPoint app. Simply choose File>New and select the Chevron Traffic Management tab. All templates will then be shown.

Welcome UDP

We’re delighted to welcome Tim Walmsley and his team from UDP, who became part of Chevron Traffic Management on 11 April 2024.

UDP Limited are a provider of specialist temporary traffic management solutions predominantly in the North West, Yorkshire and East Midlands and have a natural synergy with Chevron TM low-speed, particularly in the utilities and rail sectors.

As part of the integration process, we are already working on rebranding UDP so that the entire organisation will operate under the Chevron TM brand. In the meantime, we encourage our existing colleagues to support our new team members as they integrate into the Chevron business.

Word templates

For each business listed above there are three different Word templates to choose from.

1. A simple Word template with company logo, footer and page number.

2. A Word Template with Cover and Contents. This is similar to the simple Word template but with the addition of 8 different cover page options and a contents page.

3. An External Report Template for use when clients – typically government departments – require a minimum 12pt font size. There are 3 cover options to choose from. In all other respects, this template is identical to the standard Word Template with Cover and Contents.

All Word templates are available in portrait and landscape options.

PowerPoint Template

We now have one PowerPoint Template for use by Chevon TM, Chevron GS, Class One TM and the Chevron Group brands which makes things much simpler when sharing and combining presentations across different businesses and with other Ramudden companies.

The template features cover page options with a choice of different company logos. Simply select the cover page and logo you want and delete those that you do not need. All other pages in the template feature the Chevron/Ramudden Symbol (the three triangles).

In Loving Memory

It is with a heavy heart that we find ourselves writing a memorial to Kyle Stephenson, a much-loved colleague and friend to many who was tragically taken from us on 11th April. Kyle was an integral part of Chevron TM in Scunthorpe but was well-known and respected across our business and in our wider supply chain.

Chris Morley recruited Kyle in May 2017 and watched him excel over the years. “Kyle was the manager of our Projects team and managed several key accounts for the business. He was the first person to get an order and deliver SVEA barrier in the UK on the A58 near Leeds and was also integral in organising the installation of other barrier schemes for the urban business along with his colleagues. Kyle also organised and managed quite a few local events for Hull City council and also helped with delivery of key events in London including Ride London and the Marathon. He was definitely a talent for the future.”

Kyle leaves behind his long-term partner Meghan and their 2 children Theo-James age 7 and Arla age 3. Little Theo in particular is Chevron mad and loves to see our vehicles about the town and was delighted to have one named after him. Kyle’s colleagues in Scunthorpe have also named their meeting room after Kyle Stephenson.

Kyle’s tragic death has shocked us all, particularly close colleagues and friends. He will be deeply missed for his humour, good spirit and willingness to get the job done.

Rest in Peace Kyle.

onBabyBoard

Across the Chevron Group, we aim to be a caring force for a safer world and sometimes our actions go beyond delivering traffic management. Sometimes we even help deliver babies or help care for babies in a crisis.

Special Delivery

It’s not every night you leave work having helped deliver a baby on the side of the road. This is exactly what happened to Peter Philips from our Newport depot and Elliott Thomas from our Exeter depot who were providing traffic management services on the A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross in Cornwall.

When a car stopped inside the cones, Peter and Elliott went to help, assuming they were dealing with a breakdown. Instead, it was

an imminent birth! Peter and Elliott provided calm assistance and supplies including a Stanley knife to cut the umbilical cord while directing the emergency services who arrived to take mum and the new baby girl to hospital. But the drama wasn’t over, as the couples’ car got stuck in the mud so Peter and Elliott helped get it out and get dad back on the road.

All and all, an eventful night’s work!

Well Done Ash Heath! (Somerton)

We received this lovely message from a grateful member of the public who experienced a breakdown on the A360/A303.

“Hello, I just wanted to send a message to commend Ash, working on the road closure by the A360/A303 roundabout. Today, unfortunately my car broke down whilst travelling with my mum and my 8-month-old little boy. We made it to the roundabout and I stopped by the road closure. Ash advised me to move by car to a safer area and coned off the car. He offered us water, use of the toilet and even a cup of tea.

On top of all this, he had a look in the engine and even suggested what might be the problem before the AA arrived. It would be great to give him a massive thanks as I felt totally at ease even with the stress of breaking down and having a baby on board.”

A Force for Good.

As part of our new mission and values, the Chevron Group want to be a caring force for a safer world. We want to be a force for good in everything we do. This includes working with and supporting our local communities, charities, and projects.

Volunteering

Employees across the group have really engaged with our Volunteering Policy to bring financial and practical support to a range of deserving causes. Over the past year, we worked with clients, colleagues and our communities to provide over 600 hours of volunteering to a range of projects including cleaning beaches, building sensory gardens, taking part in charity walks, and creating environmental and nature areas with bug hotels and bug benches for children to enjoy. Additionally, we have helped over 25 charities with financial support through our Charitable Donations Policy.

Maria King-Smith leads our Social Value activities and is delighted with the engagement across our group. “We are making a real, tangible difference to our local communities thanks to our fantastic employees who are engaging with our social value policies. But we are also making a difference to the people who volunteer. The feedback is always really positive because at the end of the day, it is a special feeling to know you have help to make a difference.”

“I volunteer for several reasons, but the most important one is the difference I can make. Recently, I took part in a Chevron led social value project at a school in Basingstoke, where we prepared a school field for an interactive play path. I especially enjoyed the day I met new people and most of all the team made a visible, positive impact on the school and hopefully the pupils when the project is finished.” Kerry Collins, Kier, Social Sustainability Coordinator – London, Area 3 & 4, Oxford Station.

Returning Citizens

As part of our Social Value Strategy, the Chevron Group wants to help people who have engaged in past crimes but have paid their debt to society. We want them to excel in our business and in the wider society.

The most significant challenge an ex-offender faces after being released is finding a job. The Chevron Group Returning Citizens initiative opens our recruitment up to ex-offenders to support their reintegration into society and to help us increase our workforce, reduce overheads, and reduce the number of agencies we use. Our graphic shows the impact this is having on ex-prisoners and on our business

ESG Intranet - Nexus

The ESG team has developed a tailored intranet called Nexus which is a communication hub that will serve as our singular repository for all ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) information across the business.

What is Nexus?

Nexus is a web-based intranet hosted on SharePoint and is accessible to all Group businesses. The ESG team has built this intranet to store important information the business needs to access on a regular basis, such as group policies, processes, management systems, health and safety documents, toolbox talks etc. The tool will also be used to share best practice and provide updates on health and safety, governance and sustainability activities and projects.

Award Winning

We’ve been winning more awards across the Chevron Group. Each award is highly deserved and continues to mark the Chevron Group out as industry leaders.

Best in Class

Chevron Traffic Management was recently awarded the prestigious RoSPA Industry Award in the Construction Engineering sector for demonstrating our commitment to health and safety excellence.

This is a tremendous achievement according to Phil Last, our Head of Health & Safety, “I describe the RoSPA Industry awards as the “Oscars of the Safety Industry”. We secured a RoSPA Gold Award for 14 years in a row and also hold the President’s Award but the Industry Award puts us into a new level. We are competing with the best in the world including some of the largest construction and engineering organisations. Chevron TM is a relatively small, specialist infrastructure safety business operating in the construction industry. To be recognised as a health and safety industry leader is special and deserved recognition for everyone in Chevron TM who live and breathe our mission statement which is to get people home safely.”

Excellent Fleet Management

Congratulations to our Fleet Management team who have been awarded Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) Bronze Accreditation for setting the standard for safer, smarter, and greener road transport operations.

The Bronze accreditation confirms that Chevron TM employs good practice and demonstrates dedication to driver and vehicle safety.

A fantastic team effort led by Allison Porter, Head of Fleet and supported by Andy Spring at Tring, Darren Clarke at Newport, Deborah Lean at Thatcham, Mike Fenner at Thatcham, Ricky Rumblow at Thatcham and Tim O’Sullivan at Newport as well as Lesley McGowan, Training Manager and Louise Donaldson, Fleet Supervisor in Head Office.
