Take

A year at Chevron Group

Message from Tim Cockayne, CEO

Welcome to the Chevron Group Winter Newsletter. As 2024 comes to a close, it’s clear that this year has brought its share of challenges. While we’ve had to navigate some tough decisions to position ourselves for success in 2025 and beyond, I’m proud of the resilience and teamwork I’ve seen across the board. It’s inspiring to see everyone going the extra mile for each other and our customers.

Despite the challenges, we’ve had some great successes this year across all our business units.

In CTM the EMCC guidelines were officially published in the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) which marked a significant milestone for our industry. We also successfully launched our new Site Safety (Urban) division with the introduction of our SVEA and Urban Barrier systems. A true highlight was winning a RoSPA Industry Award in the Construction Engineering category. This was a proud moment and cements our commitment to health and safety.

At HRS, we launched a new user app which allows clients to deploy, maintain and manage Intellitag® used on site. We’re already getting great feedback from customers and expect the use of this app to grow throughout 2025.

In Consilium we’ve won accolades for our comprehensive Apprentice Scheme and launched a new Biodiversity Net Gain Assessment service in collaboration with our Green Services Consultancy team. It’s a demonstration of how we can work together across the group to achieve great things, offer more value and improved services for our clients.

Over in Green Services, we’ve won a prestigious Green Apple Award for our sustainability approach when replanting the A14. We also launched The Green Perspective Podcast, a popular podcast on sustainability in business, featuring interviews with industry leaders which has proved successful.

At Class One we’ve extended contracts due to the quality of our work and the strength of our relationships with our clients. We’ve also seen long service awards for 10 and 20 years. It’s fantastic to see people spending their careers with us.

For our Barrier Division companies; HBS, Roocroft and Metor, 2024 has been the year of settling into the Chevron family. We’ve seen lots of collaboration already between themselves and our other businesses and look forward to further cross-business teamwork and support in 2025.

During 2024 we conducted two employee surveys. I appreciate your support in sharing your honest feedback. Our second survey showed increased engagement and a positive uplift in results reflecting the progress we’re making together. It’s still an ongoing project and we look forward to working together to make Chevron an even better place to work in 2025.

Our commitment to sustainability has been demonstrated this year by CTM, CGS, Roocroft and Metor being awarded the PAS 2080: 2023 Carbon Management in Infrastructure accreditation months before it became mandatory in our sector. Well done to the ESG team and everyone involved for all their hard work and coordination.

“It’s an exciting time to be part of the Chevron Group and I’m looking forward to seeing what we accomplish together in the coming year.”

This year marked the successful launch of our ESG Accelerator programme, a unique opportunity for individuals from all business units to learn from experts in ESG, sustainability and health and safety. Congratulations to everyone who participated and contributed to its success.

Looking ahead to next year, our big focus across the Group is commercial excellence. You all have a part to play in that. It’s an exciting time to be part of the Chevron Group and I’m looking forward to seeing what we accomplish together in the coming year.

Wishing you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas.

Recognising our Above and Beyond Award winners

We had some fantastic entries for the Above and Beyond Awards. Open to nominations from every business unit within the Group, it’s a chance for you to recognise your colleagues who have gone above and beyond in the course of their work. Our winners this year are:

Steph Berwick, our Head of Sustainability, who won the Entrepreneurship Award for continually championing the carbon reduction agenda, challenging employees across the Group to think differently. Steph says “It’s brilliant that we have these awards to recognise people across the business, and I am grateful to be one of the recipients this year. Every achievement is a team effort, and I know that I stand on the shoulders of my fantastic Chevron colleagues who put their heart and soul into everything they do.”

Paul Jones, our TM Foreman from Manchester who won the Caring Award because of his rapid response when he spotted one of his crew members having a stroke. Paul’s quick thinking ensured that the patient was taken to hospital immediately and thankfully made a quick recovery. Paul says “I just did what anybody would do in that situation. I wasn’t expecting any reward for my actions, but it was nice to be recognised.”

Kieran Dudson, our TM Operative from Thatcham who won the Customer Focus Award due to his support in delivering a new EMCC process for pothole repairs and maintenance duties. Our client Kier had nothing but praise for the collaborative approach adopted by Kieran.

David Grainger, our TM Foreman from Northampton who won the Safety Award for inspiring and mentoring many trainees and operatives over the years. His passion for setting high standards and his calm and relaxed training approach, has helped other people gain their qualifications, knowledge and experience.

Nominations are open now, scan the QR code to nominate your outstanding colleagues. Please provide as many details as you can about why this person deserves to win. Entries close on 31st December 2024.

ESG Accelerator

This year, our ESG team launched their first ESG Accelerator programme. An externally accredited Future Leaders programme on how operational teams can embed and implement ESG, sustainability and health and safety within their areas.

Giles Fulcher, Framework Supervisor, CTM Detling had this to say: “When I was recommended to the new ESG accelerator programme I knew nothing of ESG or its role within the business, but I attended eager for the opportunity to learn something new. Anybody who’s looking to go on this course must be open-minded, keen to learn, committed, passionate about the business and the preservation of the world around them and eager to make impactful positive changes.”

The ESG Accelerator will be running three more times next year and we’re looking for interested parties to join our 2025 cohorts. If you’d like to find out more, reach out to Steph Berwick, Phil Last or Jamie Bowen via email for more information.

Your opinion matters

In 2024 we took part in two global employee surveys conducted by our parent company Ramudden Global. As a result of the first survey, we formed the Voice of the Employee Council featuring representation from every business unit within the Chevron Group. The VoE Council’s mission is to improve the communications, culture and employee engagement in each business. Because of the suggestions from the council and changes to communications our second survey saw both an improvement in engagement, and a positive increase in results. We thank you for all your support with this. During 2025 we’ll be continuing what was started this year to make Chevron an even better place to work.

A year at CTM

Message from Chris Adams, COO

I can’t believe I’ve been working here at the Chevron Group for nearly a year now; the time has flown by. I’ve met a lot of great people in the business, who are all working hard every day.

2024 has been a tough year as we’ve seen a reduction in work in the HighSpeed business as a result of the general election. This has impacted the amount of revenue this year, however we are expecting this to pick up in 2025 and the teams have been working hard to deliver a profit margin on the work that has come through. We’ve also made a number of changes which have set us up for success going forward.

Even though there has been a reduction in the amount of available work out there (15% reduction in applications for Temporary Traffic Light permits by companies requiring TM services), Low-Speed has done a fantastic job over the last few months, maintaining revenue at the levels we need and delivering an improved profit margin.

We’ve also had to make some difficult decisions, which have not been taken lightly. Closing Newport and Northampton Low-Speed depots, closing the Brigg Yard and merging Scunthorpe and Retford were all difficult decisions, but they are the right decisions for the Low-Speed business as a whole and we’ve seen the numbers and performance improve consistently month on month as a result.

The employee surveys we’ve conducted this year has given us some brilliant

insights into how you feel about your work and what changes we can make.

This year, we’ve proudly received several recognitions which highlight the incredible work that you do, including the RoSPA Award for our commitment to health and safety and being shortlisted for Excellence in Sustainability for our digital work zones and Transformation Excellence for EMCC at the BQF UK Excellence Awards 2025. These achievements are a testament to the dedication and hard work you bring to every challenge.

As we head into 2025, a reminder that a focus on ownership, quality of delivery and a tight rein on costs are key for our success. We’ve made some significant progress on all these fronts but there is still more we can and will continue to do as we head into the new year.

And finally, I’d like to extend a big thank you to you all for your efforts this year during some difficult times and I wish everyone a happy and healthy Christmas. I hope you can enjoy some time off with your loved ones to recharge your batteries. I look forward to seeing you ready to take on 2025, full of energy, and focusing on safely delivering quality service to our clients.

All the best

Celebrating success at CTM

This year we’ve been delighted and proud that all of our hard work has paid off. We’ve been acknowledged in the following awards:

Excellence in Inclusivity & Diversity Award at the HR&D Awards

Construction Engineering sector for our commitment to health and safety at the RoSPA Awards

Shortlisted for Excellence in Sustainability, for our use of innovative digital technology for work zones at the BQF UK Excellence Awards 2025

Shortlisted for Best Team Award, for having an amazing ESG Team at the BQF UK Excellence Awards 2025

Shortlisted for Transformation Excellence, for our Enhanced Mobile Carriageway Closures (EMCC) at the BQF UK Excellence Awards 2025

These accolades are not just ours; they reflect the outstanding collaboration we have fostered with our industry partners. Over the past 12 months, we’ve pushed boundaries and achieved remarkable results.

We take great pride in these achievements and extend our heartfelt gratitude to you all for supporting us. Your contributions have been invaluable in driving our success.

Social value at CTM

At Chevron, we firmly believe in the importance of giving back to the communities in which we operate. Our commitment to supporting those around us reinforces our core values and strengthens the bonds that unite us all.

We know depots around the country are getting involved in various community activities, from the team at Tring volunteering at their local food bank, to the team at Salford regularly holding collections and coffee mornings.

Earlier this year we took part in the annual Balfour Beatty mixed touch rugby tournament. Despite the tough competition, we secured an impressive second-place finish! This annual tournament serves as a powerful platform for industry professionals to unite, foster camaraderie through friendly competition, and make a significant positive impact on the community. The event raised an impressive £15,409.82 so far for some truly remarkable charities - Groundwork, British Heart Foundation, Brave Mind, Footprints Conductive Education Centre and PASIC - Cancer support for children and young people.

Our partnership with Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) continued with us sponsoring and taking part in the D-Day trek in June. We laid on welfare vans during the trek and provided signage. Whilst members of CTM, CGS and Group support functions all took to the Kent countryside to walk 44km overnight, raising £1715 for RBLI in the process.

We launched Site Safety and Urban Barriers

This year saw the launch of our Site Safety and Urban Barriers. The SVEA Barrier redefines safety in urban areas and construction sites, providing safer working conditions for workers and protection for motorised traffic and the public. It’s significantly quicker to install than traditional temporary vehicle barriers. This is largely due to its unique connection detail requiring no loose parts. With fewer component parts, our SVEA

Barrier System delivers 10-20% lower transport costs and 50% shorter installation times, with less risk of injuries.

The Urban Barrier supports the UK’s plans for increasing active travel in our towns and cities. This system ensures that pedestrians, joggers, cyclists, skateboarders, and wheelchair users can move freely and safely around any work site.

A year at CGS

Message from John Prowse

I’d like to start off by sharing my thanks for the resilience, professionalism and competency you’ve shown this year, the majority of which was spent without a Managing Director. It highlights both your spirit and your commitment to doing a good job that CGS has continued on a positive path. As has been reflected in all the businesses, 2024 has seen us face some challenging conditions and difficult decisions had to be made. But we’re stronger for facing these decisions and the business is on a stable footing as we move into 2025.

Our mission to safely create, maintain and care for biodiverse habitats for generations to come shines through in our work. Last month we were thrilled to win an International Green Apple Environment Award, for our Replanting the A14 scheme. A huge well done to Mark White and Nick Amani for their hard work in delivering this project.

Seeing you all taking part in community initiatives and volunteering is so heart-warming. Well done to all of you who are working hard to contribute to and improve your local community.

Before I started, everyone mentioned the highlight of working at CGS was the people. Having been here for nearly two months, I can confirm that is the case. It’s a delight to work with people who care about doing a good job for their clients, colleagues and themselves.

I hope you all have a joyful Christmas break with your loved ones. Here’s to a prosperous 2025! There’s a lot to do, but I’m excited about what we can achieve together.

With best wishes

Green Apple Environment Awards

This year, we were delighted to win an International Green Apple Environment Award for our Replanting the A14 scheme. The scheme saw us use certified biodegradable tree shelters across 165,000 trees, focusing not only on a sustainable approach but also on a safer one. The project was truly collaborative, working closely with National Highways, the tree shelter providers Rainbow Professional and Grown in Britain. Our submission was

up against more than 1200 other nominations, so you can imagine how proud we feel to be recognised.

John Prowse, MD, CGS said:

“Winning this International Green Apple Award is a testament to our team’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation. It reflects our dedication to making a positive impact on the environment while driving meaningful change in our industry.”

CGS On Air

This year we’ve proudly launched our first series of The Green Perspective Podcast, a joint initiative between ESG and Chevron Green Services. The series explores sustainability in business today, featuring interviews from industry leaders like Stephen Elderkin, National Highways, Paul Aldridge, WJ and Marian Garfield, Heidelberg Materials discussing the challenges and innovations they face in implementing a sustainable approach across their businesses. Catch up with the whole series now by searching for The Green Perspective Podcast wherever you get your pods.

Support in the community

So many people from both CGS and CGC have been involved in fundraising, volunteering and social value initiatives this year. We’ve supported prisons with career advice and gardening support alongside our Group partners. We’ve been creating gardens and using our expertise to remove vegetation and hazardous trees from charity locations. We’ve been into schools and onto social media sharing the variety of rewarding green jobs available. And some of you have even been jumping out of planes! Keep up the good work!

A year at HRS

Message from Darren Wills

2024 has been challenging at HRS but I’d like to thank each member of the team for continuing to push forward with further year-on-year growth. We’ve had an increase in the number of external customers using our products which is really positive.

This year we took our HRS event van on the road to meet customers and provide hands-on demonstrations of our digital products and services. If you’d like us to visit your depot, please let us know.

HRS in the community

As we move into 2025 and beyond, we’re continuing to encourage consistent adoption of our Incursion Prevention and Warning System (IPAWS®) and Intellitag® across the traffic management sector to try to ensure that every worker on our roads gets home safe and well.

Wishing all team HRS and your families a wonderful festive break.

This year we’re thrilled to have sponsored the U7 & U13 Boys and U12 Girls Bottesford FC football teams.

Due to your enthusiasm, we’ve raised £688 for Breast Cancer Now and £165 for MacMillian. Keep up the good work!

HRS sponsor the Incursion and IPV Group Collaboration and Innovation Day

Despite the unexpected snowy weather, over 80 dedicated delegates braved the conditions to attend the National Highways Development Centre. Their participation in this important event highlights the commitment across the industry towards road worker safety.

James Haluch, Managing Director of GB surfacing solutions at Breedon, opened the day by detailing the ongoing efforts of the Incursions and IPV working group. The day consisted of several live demonstrations featuring Intellicone® IPAWS site safe and clear, as well as our new myworkzone portal feature to

trigger the blue alert from a control centre to warn of the approach of an emergency services vehicle. Special thanks to the Chevron crew who provided a demonstration of EMCC.

We also previewed the Intellitop, which is a new device developed with Altus, a customer in Australia that can trigger an IPAWS® alarm. Intellitop demonstrates the potential of AI in enhancing road safety with an emphasis on technology solutions being easily deployable for teams in the field.

We’re delighted to see that lots of progress has been made in recent years, but there is still more to do.

HRS takes on HUK

We were delighted to successfully exhibit at Highways UK. The event at the NEC, Birmingham in October saw our team demonstrating the latest in digital innovation to create safer, greener and more efficient work zones. We were showcasing:

◆ Intellitag®: Reducing costs and CO2 emissions

◆ Intellicone® IPAWS: Keeping work zones safe

◆ Global Impact: Demonstrating the reach of our products

The highlight for us was seeing the engagement and collaboration across the industry to keep road workers safe, with a focus on how digital innovation can improve safety, reduce carbon and support efficient work zones.

A year at Consilium

Message from Daryl Gordon

2024 has been a great milestone for Consilium, as it marked the 10-year anniversary of the business trading. This also coincided with moving into our fantastic new offices at Fort Dunlop, which has given us the platform we much needed to support our future growth plan. It enables us to offer new services in the industry as we look to expand our team further in 2025.

Our new working environment has been instrumental in helping us work more closely with other parts of the group, as it is a great space to collaborate and build on our relationships.

We’re part of the 5% Club!

Edward Arnold

Consilium in the community

This month, we teamed up with HTM and Up To Speed Training & Assessment as part of the XII Alliance to support The Salvation Army’s Be A Star Appeal. The Birmingham branch alone assists 750 families, aiming to provide 4 toys per child for a joyful Christmas. We’re proud to be part of this effort again this year.

We’ve also had a great year of achievements and recognition for our internal apprenticeship scheme. Edward Arnold was nominated for an award at the Highways Awards for Apprentice of the Year; the Rising Star Award at the National Apprenticeship Awards and Consilium was nominated for SME of the year at the Regional Apprenticeship Awards West Midlands.

We’ve put so much work into our apprenticeship program over the past 3 years, so to be nominated for these awards is a real credit to the team.

Thank you all for your commitment and hard work this year. I wish you all a very happy Christmas break with your loved ones.

We’re delighted to have been awarded Gold accredited membership as part of The 5% Club’s esteemed 202425 Employer Audit Scheme. This accolade highlights our unwavering commitment to empowering our employees through “earn & learn” initiatives such as Apprenticeships, Graduate Schemes, and Sponsored Student Placements. Achieving Gold status is a testament to our dedication to nurturing the growth and development of our workforce. It underscores our belief that investment in people is the cornerstone of success. Through programs that offer hands-on learning, we are creating pathways for professional growth, equipping our staff with the skills and confidence they need to thrive.

A year in the Chevron Barrier Division

Who are the Chevron Barrier Division?

The Chevron Barrier Division consists of three separate companies:

HBS

Based in Belfast and Glasgow, joined the group in December 2021.

Roocroft

Based in Leyland, just north of Manchester, joined the group in Jan 2023.

Metor

Based in Bedford, joined the group in May 2023.

We have a skilled workforce of 125 and our own in-house plant and equipment, which allows us to deliver Vehicle Restraint Systems (VRS), specialist fencing, general security, and environmental barriers to our clients across the UK.

2024 has really seen the three separate companies of the Barrier division coming together. We’ve been able to maximise our individual resources to the best advantage for the Group, with the employees now working as one team. The three companies are liaising and co-operating over training, vehicle and plant purchasing along with fitting out of vehicles. Works are now interdepartmentally integrated to best utilise each company’s strategic position within the marketplace.

Additionally, we’ve been collaborating with the CTM Urban Barrier division to assist with the installation of SVEA Barrier and Urban products. Our plant, equipment and operative skill sets are ideal for these installations and will provide an exciting opportunity to offer this game-changing product to our client base for temporary barrier systems in 2025.

HBS

Message from Nigel Dougan

2024 has been a good year for HBS, we’ve had steady work in both Scotland and NI, thank you for your dedication and hard work. In Scotland, we continue to carry out a lot of work for our major road operator companies, whilst securing further work with local authorities including Glasgow and Edinburgh council.

Northern Ireland has seen a steady workload with a good mix of Department for Infrastructure (National Highways equivalent for NI) and private clients. We completed the A6 project early in 2024, this scheme included 55.5km of safety barrier, 3km of parapets, and 248 terminals. We also carried out work at the NI transport hub in Belfast, including 453m of H4a and H2 parapet. Well done to all teams involved.

This year we’ve sponsored the Jedforest Rugby Club in the Scottish Borders. Our sponsorship has provided post protectors for the pitch, adding protection for all the teams playing at Jedforest.

After a successful year, I want to wish all our teams and your loved ones, a Christmas break filled with cheer.

HBS

HBS saving lives on the A77

Our installations are truly lifesaving. Back in 2018, HBS replaced the old vehicle restraint system along the coastal A77 in Scotland. On 15 October 2024, a Tesco articulated lorry was travelling south when it lost control of the bend and struck the barrier. Thanks to our VRS, the lorry was slowed enough to stop it from going into the sea, and the driver survived. We returned on 17 October to mend the barrier.

Roocroft

Message from Phil Bradley

It’s been a busy year in Roocroft, and I thank you for all your hard work. We’ve completed a number of large schemes, including the M6 J43-44 as Principal Contractor for National Highways, installing 11000 metres of VRS. We’ve been delighted to work with clients to provide solutions in areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the A592 Kirkstone Pass.

Our team has been busy learning and completing training; well done to Alison Bell for completing her Lead Auditor training, Charlotte Harris and Andrew Dean for completing the National Highways Aspiring Leaders program, and Lee Robinson for completing the National Highways Strategic Leadership program with Roads Academy. And congratulations to Ariana Brzana, Brandon Maclaren, Ashley Gardner, Bartosz Brzana and Kameron Edmundson for undertaking the level 2 Fencing Installer apprenticeship scheme.

We’ve provided a lot of support on the SDF contract for National Highways in 8 areas across the Midlands and North of the country. We’ve also worked on HS2, a number of Smart Motorway schemes and the completion of the Windy Harbour bypass in Lancashire.

We’ve also been taking our sustainability responsibility seriously and working with steel suppliers to reduce steel within the VRS products, leading to a reduction in concrete for footings.

After such a busy year, I hope you all have a wonderful break with your loved ones over the Christmas period.

Phil Bradley Operations Director, Roocroft

Metor

Message from Mike Keddle

Firstly, I want to thank you for all your hard work in 2024. It doesn’t go unnoticed. It’s a positive story for Metor this year, we’ve grown in strength since joining Chevron Group, re-establishing ties with several UK Tier 1 providers.

We’ve worked hard to retain our small company servicebased ethos whilst benefiting from Group support to enhance our sustainable values, offering our clients a modern, ethical, responsible, and socially aware service to meet current industry demands.

We’ve achieved so much this year; we’ve completed a detailed programme of inspections for FM Conway within Transport for London of over 20km of network assets. As well as several maintenance (Find & Fix) schemes for Amco Giffen Carnel and inspecting and reinstating over 40km of vehicle restraint barriers in the Midlands during nighttime closures under the National Highways SDF contract.

We’ve also supported Colas on a challenging scheme, installing a range of products including high containment barriers, within a high profile, high priority, heavily trafficked location on the M60 Junction 14 Lighting Scheme.

We’re delighted that during 2024 we were successfully integrated into Chevron’s ESG infrastructure, which saw us gaining the PAS 2080 carbon management verification alongside Roocroft, CTM and CGS.

I hope you and your families enjoy a well-deserved break over the Christmas period.

Chevron Group supporting our local communities

This year, we’ve been involved in some amazing initiatives and these photos are just a tiny snapshot. From the Evolve programme led by Shirley Young in the people team, which supports returning citizens, to helping out in your local communities; depots, offices and teams across the UK have played their part. We thank you for getting involved.
