A Message From Our Chairman Chairwoman:

Helene Leimbach Thank you to everyone for your vote of confidence. For those who do not know me, I thought a little history would help. I was introduced to the RROC Chesapeake Region when Brian and I attended our first event in October of 1993 at the Rockville Car Show. We had just picked up our Bentley from Cincinnati, OH the week before. We were graciously greeted by Ace Rosner, Rod Rydlun, Akin Davis, and Frank Kennedy. We started attending every local event and immediately were made to feel welcome. We have attended 15 plus Annual Meets, hosted one regional meet, and attended two other regional meets. I was the Secretary for three years and I’ve attended two RROC judging seminars and served as a judge for nine Annual Meets. We have driven our S3 year round. The most important factor of participating in our fabulous passion is all the friends we have made. In addition, we have travelled to fun and beautiful places with our friends, and enjoyed so many events. Being fortunate enough to own a Bentley allows us to meet countless folks on our journeys, and spread the fun. I would like to recognize Mike and Sherry Brown and Andy Diem on their first place concours wins at the RROC Annual Meet in Asheville this past August. Also, Tony Wilner, who now heads up the Rolls-Royce Foundation in Mechanicsburg. Congratulations to them!

Working closely with the Activities Chairman and my husband, Brian Leimbach, we have planned 19 events so far for this year. First time events this year are the Walters Art Gallery tour in Baltimore, Dine and Drive with the Mercedes Benz Club, deSimon Model Car tour, Savage Mill tour, and two new additional events being finalized. I wish everyone a blessed holiday season. Please know that I intend to add more value to your membership. Stay tuned for a fun year to come.

Other than misspelling Rolls-Royce and Owners' the Rockville car show has welcomed our club for many, many years. - Photo by Larry S. Glenn The Chesapeake Lady

In Memory of Dick Frawley

ick Frawley might not have been born with a wrench in his hand but he picked one up at an early age. Then set it down, assuming he would go to college and grad school to become a veterinarian. The selective service lottery interfered, when, in true luck-of-the-Irish fashion, he drew number four. That assured that the Department of Defense would take over his education. He selected Naval Aviation and went off to learn about flying P3 airplanes. While stationed in Brunswick, ME he frequented the officers’ club, which resulted in his marrying the bartender. From there it was to Villanova University to teach ROTC and get his Masters Degree in bio-chem and still planning to care for animals. When he heard from the friend of a friend about an old car in a back garage – a 1934 Rolls-Royce 20/25, coachwork by Mann-Egerton, his focus shifted. By the time he had finished active duty, his Rolls-Royce hobby had morphed into a business. The Chesapeake Lady

He retired from the Navy as a Commander, founded The Frawley Company and moved it to Parkesburg, PA. Over the decades he worked on more than three hundred Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars and for almost as many owners, who began as customers and ended up “family,” along side the vendors who made each car a communal project and each day an adventure. In business he had two aims: to restore the cars to running their very best and to treat customers as he would wish to be treated. He was a life member of the RROC and served as Chairman and Treasurer of the Keystone Region. For the club he conducted scores of seminars, both local and national, and wrote the definitive article on re-wiring a pre war car (in brief, assume it will take four times longer than you think). His dream of helping animals was realized in the dozens of stray cats who wandered into the shop. He is survived by his wife, Judith Skillings, the cats that stayed and all the cars still running.

Minutes of the Board of Directors' Meeting November 6, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 1:23 pm by chairwoman Helene Leimbach. In attendance were: Helene Leimbach, Doug Cooke, Rick Otis, Sherry Brown, John Beschenbossel, Brian Leimbach, Andy Diem, Larry S. Glenn, Ted Sterne, Julian Gitlin, and Gerard P. Panaro Also attending: Richard Koller A quorum was present. The request of Eileen Digler of the RROC headquarters that the region run an ad in The Flying Lady magazine at a cost of $350.00 was discussed. Persuading local Rolls-Royce and Bentley dealers to purchase an ad in the magazine was also discussed. Upon motion duly made and seconded and approved with only one no vote, it was decided to purchase an ad in The Flying Lady for $350.00. Upon motion duly made and seconded and unanimously approved by the directors, it was decided to donate the proceeds from the Moal Car event and the event hosted by Sherry and Mike Brown to James Brown, to help defray the costs of his catastrophic injury. It was reported that there is approximately $26,000.00 in the region’s bank account. This amount was veri-

fied by Mary Kalin. There was considerable discussion about re-establishing an operating budget and about how best to use these funds. For example, it was suggested to spend the money on procuring name badges for the members of the region; hosting a seasonal party; providing the board members with business cards; and defraying the costs of the St. Michael’s concours. Concern was also raised about spending funds prudently and properly and the suggestion that any decisions on how to spend the region’s funds be included in a budget. However, no firm decisions were made. Other topics were also discussed: adopting Roberts Rules of Order to govern meetings, but adapted to the needs of the region; updating the website; publishing a membership directory; and asking directors to sign their names at the bottom of any e-mails they may send. The chair asked directors to send her their thoughts on the budget, how the region’s funds should be spent, and other topics discussed. The chairman called for the next board meeting to be held on January 29, 2017. Upon motion duly made, seconded and unanimously approved by the directors, the meeting was adjourned at 1.55 pm. Respectfully submitted, Gerard P. Panaro, Secretary
