Editor’s Letter A New Beginning

On the first day of school, I walked into the journalism class to find a room full of unknown faces. At first, it was shocking, for the scene was totally unfamiliar. But at the same time, it was exciting. I would have the opportunity to start anew in journalism, and with that opportunity, I got the honor of being the chief editor of Leaman’s press. Through these past weeks, I got the chance to know the new journalists of Leaman as I experienced the process of journalism with them. In the period of making Leaman’s first newspaper of the year, the journalism team and I faced many challenges, discoveries, and achievements.

It’s easy to say that guiding twenty-four students through journalism was not an easy task. We had big goals, and a limited time to achieve them. The biggest challenge we faced was using a new platform for design. Unlike the platform journalism had used in the previous year, this website was a completely blank slate, which proved to be quite tricky. There was also the problem of writing. For some, writing came easy. But for others, starting an article was hard. It was understandable, as I remember writing my first article in journalism last year. When you start writing in journalism, you get the need to make an outstanding article, something out of this world because there’s a good chance your friends will see it. This can be very pressuring, leading journalists into a bout of writer’s block. In the end, the journalists of Leaman faced these conflicts and conquered them, leading to our product; Leaman’s first newspaper of the year.

But while we faced challenges, we also faced achievements. Every journalist had at least one article featured in one newspaper. This was an impressive feat, speaking that there are more than twenty students in journalism. It’s also the first time this has occurred, as last year, a few students had to be left out of each newspaper. Another achievement journalism made these past weeks is working well on collaborations. Usually, when working on a collaborative piece in journalism, journalists often create disagreements on ideas and opinions. But these journalists have been able to peacefully work together, talking out their conflicts and aspiring to make a great piece of writing together. We also had some journalists who greatly contributed to our knowledge of technology. At some point in life, everyone has felt frustration and cluelessness when it came to figuring out something on the internet.

Thanks to our journalists, journalism was able to avoid that frustration and successfully make our newspaper. Overall, these journalists at Leaman held so much more potential than I had ever expected. They proved to be practical, productive, and determined writers. I look forward to a full year of working with these journalists, as they hold many opportunities, and I’m filled with anticipation for what comes for Leaman’s press.

Adviser’s Note

Time has a way of humbling us and well, definitely confusing us. There’s times where we think we have so much of it and then there’s days where we think there’s not enough time in the day to get things done. Working with students trying to implement the importance of using that time wisely always poses its challenges. Here we are in January with what started as a Fall Edition that will get printed and delivered in January and improvising was needed where it makes sense. How is that for timing?

The ironic part out of time in general is you do not realize how precious it is until you really look back and realize, holy cow, time literally flew by. Think about it, we are already in 2023, and you are halfway through your school year. Students, this will click someday for you. It feels legit like yesterday I was walking around my high school campus with a friend trying to gather my final notes for an article I was working on. I still have those articles somewhere stuffed in a momento’s box. Those articles managed to make their way through time and are something I can look back on. The content that I wrote about varied depending on the Spotlight Publication but most of it was sports related.

At that time I was writing about THE game of the season, the one that atheletes counted down to, families were excited to support, and rival schools ain’t got nothing on our Poly Bears. Minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades later, and here I am getting to push my talented group of writers to highlight a moment in time, and I love every single bit of this task. My hopes is you enjoy the hard work, dedication, and time that students put into this publication and will continue to do as time gets the best of us. Enjoy your improvised FALL edition that now made it to the New Year. We will get that whole timing thing write...eventually. See what I did there with ‘write’ instead of well, you know. Punny.

Respectfully, M.Bowe

How Schools Are Rated

The A-F ratings are based on domains: 1) student achievement and school progress combine for 70% and 2). Closing the Gaps counts for 30%.

• Student achievement: For elementary and middle schools, 100 percent of the student achievement section is determined from STAAR. For high schools and overall district ratings, the student achievement section is determined from three areas.

• School progress: This section is divided into two parts: 1). Academic growth - measures how students improve and 2). Relative performance - how we compare to other similar schools.

• Closing the gaps (30%): This section looks at academic achievement and graduation rates but also considers performance by students of different categories.

A – Exemplary performance

B – Recognized performance

C – Acceptable performance

D

– In need of improvement

F – Unacceptable performance

Leaman Scores an A

Lamar CISD is a proud school district, teaching future entrepreneurs and leaders. Here at Fulshear, we hold even more pride, a top-tier school with hard-working students and respectful teachers. The future is in our hands, and it is looking bright.

Fulshear Junior High School is living up to Lamar CISD’s expectations, hiring only the best teachers to help our students learn what they need to succeed. One great teacher helping our students achieve their best potential is a 7th grade math teacher, Mrs. Burton. Mrs. Burton is a hardworking teacher and mom. Students love her for her kindness and dedication to her job. She makes sure all her students understand the material with group work and fun activities that the students enjoy. The classroom environment in Mrs. Burton’s classroom is safe and surrounded by plenty of students and friends to help the other students that have trouble understanding.

“What I like about Mrs. Burton’s teaching is that she always helps me understand what we are learning,” says Addison, a student in Mrs. Burton’s 3rd period. For a school to achieve being an “A” school, there are some specific requirements the school must have. But how does a school truly become an A school? What are some helpful assets?

“Right now, all students need to show growth and that they are performing well. Even if a student doesn’t get MASTERS on their STAAR, they show that they are improving. But, when a student gets MASTERS, the school gets a ton of extra bonuses and their grade will be much higher,” says

Leaman Junior High’s esteemed principal, Mr. Semmler. “Great counselors. Supportive teachers. Administrators that care about kids and don’t just give out consequences. We need to have fun. But, our teachers also have structure and we provide the things we need for kids to feel confident. It’s not about checking boxes and saying, ‘We covered that.’ It’s about helping students when they have questions and taking the time to work with them one-on-one or in small groups to keep everyone feeling confident in what they are doing.

“Being an A school is not about only focusing on what you need to do to get it, it’s about caring for the students and doing what’s best for them, and an A will happen soon enough.

“If you just check off the boxes in what you need, you will never be able to achieve an A because that is not what it’s all about. You need to try your best to protect your students and make sure they are learning what they need to be successful in the future, also helping them find what they are passionate about.

“Not all students necessarily are going to be perfect at everything, but through hard work and great teachers, they will be able to succeed in the future.

“The more successful students you have, the higher your score will be.

“Great AdministratorsSupportivecounselors.Teachers. that care about kids and don’t just give out consequences. We need to have fun.”- Mr. Semmler.

The very first fair for Fort Bend County was held in October 1933. The concept behind the tradition was to bring the community together and most importantly, support youth education. Most of the fair’s events focus on providing opportunity for students to earn scholarships.

1 pinch salt

½ cup all purpose flour

4 tablespoons powdered sugar

In a large liquid measuring cup or batter bowl with a spout, whisk together milk, egg, water and vanilla. Add sugar, baking powder and salt and whisk until combined.

Add the flour, and whisk until completely smooth. Set aside. In a medium, deep-sided pan or pot, heat 1” of oil to 375°F over medium-high heat. When you put the end of a

Cook for 2 minutes or until light golden brown, then flip and cook another 2 minutes or until golden brown. Dust with 2 tablespoons powdered sugar and serve. Repeat one more time with the remaining batter.

We got a brand new dance...Halloween Dance that is...

Student council students tried face painting this time around. Benton Suttles (8) gives us a quick smile and is showing off the artwork.

Mr. Semmler does not miss an event at Leaman Junior High like ever. Meanwhile decorating for the Halloween Dance definitely took work.

My Body. My Choice. A student perspective on the cliche.

As a teenage girl, I wonder. I wonder all the time. I wonder, why do people keep making choices for my body? Will my opinion about my body ever matter? Or will they always skip over it like if it didn’t? Like if it wasn’t up to me to decide how to live my life? Will people just keep deciding for me? My Body, My Choice is not just a slogan or a catchphrase. At least, not to me. It is the way I think about the topic. The way I wish one day everyone thought about the topic. I wish they could understand that we should each have control over our lives. But for a reason, we don´t. At least, women don´t. And I don’t mean to become an over obsessed feminist who goes full out about the subject. But I won´t stay quiet about it either.

My opinions matter. I will just put that out there before anything else. Especially when we´re talking about my body, my life, and how I decide to live it. My body is part of myself. If you wish to objectify my body, you are objectifying me too. If you wish to control my body, then you are controlling me too. And that is the reason of why women in America have had enough. Because we are individuals, not an object who can be pushed around. And we will push back.

Women´s rights have been tossed around throughout the years, and it´s something it hurts to acknowledge. I have not yet gained all those rights and have already started to lose some of them- like to have full control over myself. I will admit that the saying My Body, My Choice has been mainly focused on the abortion rights for the women across America, but the subject can go on so much deeper than that. Women have been objectified so much, that people think that they can just take away their autonomy like if it was nothing. If it was nothing, then why would young women across the country be fighting so hard for it?

The end of Roe V. Wade altered the lives of millions across the country, mostly in a not positive, controversial way. But it also sparked a brand new start of young people fighting for their rights and to be able to be in control of themselves. Me being one of them. Who knew 5 people could single handedly alter everybody’s lives. Because this affected more than we think.

I am young. I still have so much more ahead of me. But am I really ready to grow up in a country like this? It’s not just the people with power, it’s the people who support

their opinion as well. I am not ready to be forced into things I disapprove of. I am not ready to have to lose my rights and my controls of my own life and body to people who decided that that’s how they wanted it. I am not ready to accept the fact that I am not in charge of my own self anymore. Our bodies mean something to us. They matter to us. Women will fight and speak up for them. And even though it might seem unbelievable to say that we have to fight for our bodies, it´s just as unbelievable that there are people who want to control someone else’s. You know what´s also unbelievable? That people have taken my autonomy from me before I could learn what it really meant. This is no longer something I will be quiet about.

Dear Abby,

Dear Abby,

How do I deal with my parents fighting all the time?

Dear Worried Child,

The first thing you need to acknowledge is that it’s not your fight and not your fault. And you most certainly don’t need to take sides in the conversation. You have to create your safe space as well. A place where you can be free of the fighting and the worrying. Because in things like this, it’s really important you stay calm. A lot of parents fight, but If the fighting gets worse, maybe it’s time that you talk with a trusted someone about the topic. It’s you need to let someone know privately what you’re going through. Make sure you communicate, too. You have to let your parents know when they’re calmed down what you’re feeling. Chances are that your parents love you so much they’ll take your feelings into mind. Parents fight. You can’t deny or avoid it. The only thing you need to also understand is that it’s going to get better soon. Don’t worry.

Dear Abby,

How do I deal with my 2 best friends dating?

Dear Feeling Like A 3rd Wheeler,

Its hard to accept it at first, trust me. But they’re your friends, and you can’t deny that you want them to be happy. Try talking to them about how you feel about everything. If you guys really do care for each other, you’ll will listen to each other’s feelings, and take them into thought as well. Also try feeling empathy for them. It’s not easy hearing that their friend feels left out. Look on the positive side. If they’re happy, try feeling happy for them as well.

Love, Abby

Grab & Go EASY SNACKS

It is so easy to straight to the bag of Doritos or Cheetos when you come home and are starving. Before you jump to junk food to satisfy your hunger, try simple snacks such as:

• Cut up apple with peanut butter and/or a dash of cinnamon

• Pretzels with cream cheese

• Popcorn sprinkled with your spice of choice

3). Review your notes by highlighting key terms that you know and do not know.

4). Take breaks as needed. If you are getting sleeeeeepy, you will not retain as much info, so take those mini brein breaks.

5).Ask for help if needed. Maybe a friend or family member can quiz you.

6). Organization is KEY.

DID YOU KNOW?

A lot of students do not use their school email as often as they should. Email etiquette is the number one way to get communication going with your teacher. Below is a sample of what you should do when writing an email:

The Plan...or Lack There of...

A Student’s Perspective on “It’s Okay to Not Have it All Figured Out.”

Every new year millions of people across the globe make a goal or resolution for themselves to follow so that they may better themselves. Whether that be to go on walks, eat healthier, go out more, go to the gym or even study more.

Each year I try to find a goal that would benefit me in the future, especially if it will help me to get into college or get a job. I think about what I could do to put myself in a position where I can be successful in my adult life. But even though I spend so much of my time thinking about the future and what I can do, I have realized I am not sure what exactly I want to do. I want to go to college.

But what college?

I want to be happy and successful in my future job. But what job would pay well that I would even enjoy? These are the thoughts that swarm my mind all day and all night. Though in a way they mean well they cause more stress than productiveness. When I was younger had thought that I had figured out everything about my future. But as that future dawns nearer I realize that I have no idea what I want to do or who I will be.

That is all right though, I mean most people do not really know what their lives will be like in the next ten years. All that I can do now is work hard, be patient and enjoy these days. I believe it was a John Lennon song that said, “Life’s what happens when your busy making other plans.” That is what I remind myself of when I lose myself in the stresses and worries of tomorrow. Just cherish today, you have plenty of time for the future. If you ever forget how to do that I would recommend listening to “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by Tears for fears or watch “Ferris Buellers Day Off.” I just want everyone who reads this to know that it will be okay. You will figure it out eventually, and until then, just enjoy the ride and do your best. No one can blame you for that. Until then I hope you have a wonderful day and a magnificent life.

Getting Organized

A Student’s Perspective on How to Get Your Life on Track

Sometimes school can be overwhelming and shattering for your mindset. It might feel like sometimes you just want to give in to your bad thoughts and just lay in your bed all day. But think about your future! You don’t want to be living a miserable life, do you? It is okay to rest a bit from work but right after you must get your life together! So let me help you by showing you these helpful tips and tricks to a neat and organized lifestyle.

A Planner

First of all, get yourself a planner. It might seem tedious right now, but it really does help a lot. Your school plans might stack up and you may forget something important, such as an assignment or a project. But maintaining a planner or calendar can fix all of that. Not only does it recognize what is waiting for you in the future, it also shows you what you have already achieved in the past. Personally, just having a calendar hanging up in my room makes me feel more productive and accomplished.

Clean Up

Cleaning your work environment is a fundamental part of keeping your life together. It can honestly make or break your motivation to complete your tasks. For example, I don’t want to come home from school and work on my homework in a cluttered room, it makes me feel so claustrophobic. So, when you work, leave your area cleaner than you found it. In consequence, you can come back and clear your mind or the negativity of laziness.

Make Your Bed

Another habit you should make is making your bed in the morning. I know it may seem tiresome, but it can really help you out. Studies show that making your bed in the morning can boost your mood and help you feel more organized. William H. McRaven states, “If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day,”. It is even scientifically proven that making your bed can put a stop to a night of unsatisfactory sleep. The National Sleep Foundation

has proven that there is a 19% divergence between the people who make their bed’s sleep and the people who don’t.

Brain Break

And of course, it is okay to take breaks if you need to though. Being work-shy and overworking are two different things. So maybe after you meet your personal work goal for yourself, maybe take a ten-minute break, depending on what you are doing. But don’t get sucked in the relaxations of breaks, as it is extremely easy to do so. You could set an alarm for yourself or have someone else remind you. Just make sure you don’t overuse the power of break time. So, if you ever feel a heavy weight on your back from the pressure of school, make sure it vanishes by the time you get home. Your work circumstances should be a place to centralize your work and relax. Whatever you do, or however you feel, remember that it is never too late to clean up and organize.

Be Creative and HAVE FUN!

Using magazines, newspapers, clip art (if at home), fill out the different parts of your vision board with pictures, words, and quotes associated with your goals.

For example:

Want to visit New York, but can’t find a picture of the skyline? Find the word “big” and a picture of an apple.

It’s GAME TIME!

There is never a dull moment when you decide to put students against faculty members in a volleyball game. Students got to watch their peers and cheer them on while giving their fellow coaches and teachers some tough competition.

DEFEATING THE

Eagles

Forthe first time in Leaman history, all four teams took home the trophy. Beating rival schools like Briscoe made the victories that much sweeter.

There is nothing sweeter than a team bringing home a district trophy. Actually, we lied. What is even sweeter is when ALL four teams bring home a trophy. For the first time since Leaman Junior High opened its doors in 2016, girls’ volleyball swept the district and all four brought home the championships. That is history made and quite the accomplishment for our Lady Chargers. Our 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams showed promise from the start with all teams taking down Lamar Junior High opening night. Each team battled the top three spot for district standings with 7A being the only team out of the four to be the number one seed for the district. It is not easy to consistently be the team to beat every game day, but our Chargers showed grit each and every game. Close losses against teams like Briscoe for 8A gave them the fire they needed to make sure Briscoe did not win again.

To close out the season, on October 17th, the night history was made. The DLJH volleyball girls truly did amazing at the district. Our 8th grade teams had a remarkable win, as A Team won in two sets, and B Team won in three. A team won 25-12 and had only missed one serve throughout the entire game! While B Team had lots of amazing good defence plays.

Coaches were proud of the girls’ first ever sweep of volleyball district champions. After the championships, the energy on and off the court

was straight electric which gives a whole new meaning to Mr. Semmler’s infamous, “Chaaaaaarged Up” morning routine. Coach Smith, the A Team coach, states that she continues coaching for this age group because it is a particularly good age for development, and she enjoys it. Her favorite motivational quote to tell her girls is to,“Stay focused, work hard, and get your serves over.”

Our 7th grade volleyball girls had an amazing season as well. Both teams ended up going to three sets at the championships, but still pushing through at the end. Coach Gray, the A Team coach, says that she really enjoyed going undefeated all season and building a fun relationship with girls. Coaches were super excited when they brought home the championships for the 7th grade teams for the first time ever. She explained how she would have described the season in one word, and that word of the day would be challenging work because of all the effort the teams made. All the coaches wanted for the girls was for them to have fun and win the championship while doing it. They wanted all their players to know that it is okay to make mistakes and to learn from them. That is how you get better. “Give it your best! Do what we have been doing all week in practice and do not get comfortable, you never know what could happen.”

Lady make against opponents.

Let’s go right here.

Teamwork

Lady Chargers make the play against their opponents. It takes quite a bit of energy to go three sets, but our girls rocked it when the time came.

Coach Reyna, Coach Smith, Coach Gray, and Coach Williams are all smiles holding their victory trophies. There is nothing sweeter than closing out a season with taking the title.

Andrea Martinez favorite bit of advice to her fellow teammates is to, “Get your head in the game.”

We are Fulshear FOOTBALL

Our football team at Leaman Junior High are hard-working students on and off the field. Instilling a work ethic where students are required to find a healthy balance between academics and athletics serves as a foundation for our Chargers and a skill-set that will help them succeed throughout their educational journey as athletes. With the help of our coaching staff, taking on challenges such as installing a high school offense at the junior high level was another goal to prepare our athletes for high school expectations.

The season has its successes and its misses. Our 8th Grade A Team made it to the championship which is further than where 8th grade got last year. Their toughest challenger was Wright Junior High. With one dynamic player that dominated the field, our Chargers had a difficult time slowing him down. Just to put into perspective how good he was - five touchdowns in one game. F-i-v-e.

Seventh grade teams made it to the playoffs and fought hard, but ended up losing in the first round. With losses comes opportunity for growth and learning what can be done for the following year. The coaches of our team said that they used positive reinforcement to help the kids on the field and tell them to do their job on the field. Coach Andrews and Coach Soehnge said that the thing they love about coaching football is being able to help young athletes presume their passion. The coaches learned that the kids could do more than they think they with the right mindset

When celebrating victories and season highlights, Coach Moore said that the best play at the championship game was the Seth Jones run that led them to a touchdown. Being able to look back at a season and be proud of one’s accomplishments is what all the coaches want their players to embrace. “Working as a team leads to successes and the team can accomplish their goals,” said 8th grader Joel Scarlatella. Alexander Martin chimed in and said that the highlight and best memory has to be playing as a team and working through both losses and victories. Not every season is going to end in a trophy, but if players can close out a season and be proud of what they contributed to Purple Track, then hold your head up high, boys. You made us proud.

of our cheer girls are what’s considered fliers. That takes guts and trust.

Since our cheer team is at every home game for football and boys/girls basketball, they sure do spend a lot of time together. That makes for lifelong friends.

G host & Ghouls

When someone is dead, they go to the afterlife and ascend into Heaven. Well, for most people. If people pass away and don’t go up in the sky, their soul goes down to the deep depths of lucifer’s dungeon of souls full of sins. Most souls stay in the devils world and do his labor. Also burning in pit holes while fighting to the death. those souls forever burn. While some, comeback to the real world, not as humans, but as ghosts. some can be friendly, while most come back to haunt and scare foes and random people that they have never met in their life.

These ghosts are sometimes referred to “entity’s” . they are named those names for their very “not natural” powers that are given to some. Some use it for good, some use it for bad. They can be very scary at times. But in some religions, it is normal to see ghosts and they sometimes do rituals to bring past relatives or others either for good or bad. The ghosts can evade into other peoples souls and take them over. Some do this because of hatred, some do this because they want to continue life, or they get sent by lucifer himself to bring innocent souls to build lucifer’s army. But, it is really rare that the devil himself invades a souls of his own.

Now to the topic of ghouls.

Now see, ghouls on the other hand, they are humans, but demonic, and they aren’t human at all. they may seem human, but like said, they are not. They are demonic blood lusting humans That only eat human meat and drink blood to survive. They are kind of like zombies who like blood, but they have a conciseness of what they are doing and have full control of what they do. Some people think that ghouls are just myths that originated in Arab areas to scare disobedient children. but who knows if they are real?

Rey closed the door after arriving home. The door creaked loudly as it always had ever since her mother was a small child. The house was old and run down. The wood of the floor, a once warm brown had faded into a grey after all the years it had been in their families’ care. School that day had been extraordinarily long and tiring, leaving her wary and exhausted. She trudged through her house and to her room with a heavy sigh. Her legs felt heavy, as if she walked through a vast desert in the blistering heat. As she passed her brother Arlo’s room she opened the door and asked how his day went.

Arlo responded with a sarcastic “How do you think?” and Rey nodded in silent understanding.

Rey then continued to her room and Arlo followed not far behind with a worn book in hand. As soon as she reached the room she fell onto her bed and Arlo sat at her desk and continued his reading. An hour or so passed of the two of them lounging around lazily before finally they heard it.

The sound of their mother’s voice, “Arlo! Rey! Come here please!” she called. But how could this be happening?

Their mother did not come home for at least two more hours! Rey and Arlo turned to each other with a look of terror and confusion.

“D-Did you hear that?” Arlo stuttered out.

All Rey could do was give a weak nod. Though neither of them moved but instead they silently stared at the door. The voice sounded like their mother but a voice inside the both of them warned them that it most certainly was not.

“Arlo! Rey!” the voice called out again.

However, this time Rey stood but did not go to the voice, but instead they ran swiftly to the door and locked it. She then sprinted back to her bed. Arlo then stood and snatched a metal cross hanging on Rey’s wall.

“What the heck is that going to do?!” Rey whisper yelled.

“I don’t know!” Arlo snapped defensively. They then looked back to the door.

“Arlo! Rey!” the voice called out but this time it was cold and stern.

Arlo then got into the bed as well curling in on himself and clutching the cross tightly. Rey started to quiver and held onto her brother’s arm.

“ARLO!!!!!REY!!!!!” the voice shrieked no longer sounding like their mother. The voice continued to let out dreadful screams and wails. The siblings held desperately onto each other as the voice carried on.

Then Rey finally reached for her phone and frantically called her mother. Arlo never took his eyes off the door; they were wide with terror.

“Mom! PLEASE HELP US!!! There is something here! It sounds like you, but it isn’t. I know you don’t believe me but” her frantic rambles were cut off by her mother’s voice which was calm and clear.

“Honey, I understand, and I am already on my way. So, stay on the line.” she stated calmly.

“Okay,” Rey swallowed.

At this point the voice had only gotten louder and louder. The walls had begun to shake, and their doorknob

began to violently rattle.

Then the front door slammed open. “ENOUGH!” Their mother roared, as if she knew saying this would cease the chaos, and then the house stood silent.

Absolutely silent.

Their mother rushed to their room and Arlo and Rey let her in. She wrapped them in a warm hug and quickly ushered them without a sound to her car. They then sped off, confusion and fear clouding their minds but for whatever reason they could not find the strength to ask the questions that swirled in their minds.

About the Author Ms. Indigo Moon

Hello ladies, gentlemen, and others! My name is Indigo Moon, but you can call me Indigo or by my last name, Moon. I do not really mind either way. A little bit about me? Well, I was born on a rainy morning in Austin Texas in the summer of 2009. At the start of my education, I struggled with learning how to read, and it would often give me headaches. Especially reading aloud and I would do everything in my power to avoid it. This of course translated over to my writing. It did not help that I was bullied from the start of my education to about 3rd grade. I had no friends and I often just sat alone, daydreaming. Then when I got home, I would sit In front of my tv, old and staticky as it was, and I would watch old V.H.S. tapes. I suppose this is what started my passion for stories. I remember it was about first grade when my teacher played the movie “Ponyo” by Ghibli studios, and I was fascinated. I loved it all the colors, the story, the love, and whimsy. I begged my parents to buy me more of the Ghibli movies and when they did for my birthday or Christmas, I would watch them repeatedly. Loving them even more each time. These movies inspired me to write my own stories no matter how bad they were. They showed me the hope, love, and kindness that my younger self so desperately craved and through those stories and daydreams I could escape my own grim reality. Then in the summer before fourth grade we made our biggest move yet and moved to Loveland Colorado. Finally in that year I found out the joy and wonder of reading. Because of my love for reading, I was convinced to write my own story for the UIL computation in 6th grade which I entered when I moved back to Texas, and I fortunately got second place! Now here I am writing fun stories in journalism class!

This super sweet treat was simple to make. Students in hospitality learned the importance of measuring is KEY when it comes to sweets and most importantly, safety comes first when it comes to taking sweets out of an oven.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden. Meanwhile, mix powdered sugar and milk together to make glaze.

Carefully remove puffs from muffin tins and drizzle with glaze.

Ingredients

2 cans crescent rolls

16 large marshmallows

¼ cup butter, melted

¼ cup sugar

1 tsp cinnamon
