How Schools Are Rated

The A-F ratings are based on domains: 1) student achievement and school progress combine for 70% and 2). Closing the Gaps counts for 30%.

• Student achievement: For elementary and middle schools, 100 percent of the student achievement section is determined from STAAR. For high schools and overall district ratings, the student achievement section is determined from three areas.

• School progress: This section is divided into two parts: 1). Academic growth - measures how students improve and 2). Relative performance - how we compare to other similar schools.

• Closing the gaps (30%): This section looks at academic achievement and graduation rates but also considers performance by students of different categories.

A – Exemplary performance

B – Recognized performance

C – Acceptable performance

D

– In need of improvement

F – Unacceptable performance
