Medal haul for Brookfield youngsters
THIS summer’s Ormskirk Motorfest has been cancelled after organisers, Aintree Circuit Club, withdrew their support. This popular event was due to have taken place on Sunday, August 28. Motorfest was last held in the town before the pandemic in 2019 and brought a big economic boost to the town with tens of thousands of visitors to the borough. Hopes were high the event would return this year following the pandemic, but in a shock about-turn Aintree Circuit Club has pulled its support blaming both the local

authorities - West Lancs and Lancashire for “unnecessary delays” in obtaining further approvals. The borough council’s ruling West Lancashire Labour group disputed the claims made by ACC stating that in June, Cabinet had agreed to provide £7,610 funding to Aintree Circuit Club to support Motorfest 2022. Aintree Circuit Club said in a statement:

“Following a meeting of the directors of the club, faced with the continuing complications and unnecessary delays in obtaining further approvals, that are beyond our control, and which could have been avoided by the local authorities, places us in an unacceptably exposed position, with no guarantee that the event can obtain outstanding approvals within the remaining timescales. “We have therefore taken the decision to withdraw our support for the event. “The reality is that these unnecessary delays (over six months) in making key decisions regarding funding and event safety, hasn’t left enough time for road closure consultations.
