Sewing Rooms social enterprise to help drive ambitious plan for new businesses to prosper SKELMERSDALE-BASED social enterprise, The Sewing Rooms, which trades with the aim of improving the health and wellbeing of the communities they work with, is to help deliver an ambitious plan to support new start up and existing businesses in West Lancashire to grow over the next two years. The Sewing Rooms, based at Gardiners Place, has joined up to the scheme which will offer business start up and growth support to more than 200 firms in Lancashire. The new programme is called DRIVE and will offer bespoke support to organisations and at no cost to individuals as it is funded by the European Development Fund with support from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. The partnership bid is headed up by Social Enterprise Lancashire N etwork, Selnet.

The support on offer could include explaining the basics of business if you’ve decided to work for yourself for the first time, perhaps linking you with potential partners or helping with market research so that an existing business can grow or advise on moving premises and taking on more staff. AN Ormskirk man has received a Merchant N avy Medal for Meritorious Service in recognition of his work in maritime education and safety. Alan Wall, who attended Greetby Hill School and Ormskirk Grammar School, was presented with the recognition by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal at a ceremony on Tuesday, June 29 at Trinity House, which is next to the Tower of London.
