Concerned parent says youngsters forced to walk in busy road on route to schools to avoid ‘rivers’ of rainwater caused by blocked drains Report by Kenny Parker A CONCERNED parent claims children’s lives are being put at risk as a result of persistent flooding outside two local schools. Mum-of-two Caroline Anfield says that pupils attending St Anne’s Catholic Primary in Aughton Street and neighbouring St Bede’s Catholic High School in St Anne’s Road are regularly forced to walk along a busy road to avoid pools of water. And although Lancashire County Council, the highways authority, did eventually clear the drains outside the primary school more than four weeks after Mrs Anfield’s initial contact, she claims flooding will continue to be an issue in the surrounding area because she says it is caused by blocked drains on adjoining Prescot Road. Mrs Anfield, a childminder whose own children both attend the primary school, told the Champion: “Every day when it rains we have to contend with a huge flooding problem right outside the primary

School wins international award Man arrested in connection with fatal crash in Burscough bailed until December 27 A 26-YEAR-old man from Liverpool has been arrested in connection with a horrific car crash in which two young men were killed. The fatal accident took place at around 4am on Wednesday, November 20 when a white Audi S1 collided with a wall before hitting a telegraph pole and a second wall in Moss Lane, Burscough. The driver, 24-year-old Conner Stevens from Sefton, died at the scene. Front seat passenger Luke Peaurt-Moran, 18, was taken to Aintree Hospital but later died from his injuries. The Audi, along with a red Fiat 500 Abarth, had been stolen during a burglary at an address in the Towngate area of Eccleston. The Fiat Abarth was later recovered in Valley Close, Crosby, Supported

The 26-year-old was arrested on Thursday, November 28 on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and burglary. He has since been bailed until December 27. Luke and Conner’s families have been informed and continue to be supported by specially trained officers.
