West Lancs scouts return from USA trip of a lifetime ORMSKIRK and District scouts have returned from the trip of a lifetime in the USA where they represented West Lancs at the biggest ever scouting jamboree. The five scouts, aged between 14 and 17 years, joined a group of 35 other young people from across the county to go to the 24th World Scout Jamboree, West Virginia, which attracted more than 45,000 young people from across 169 different coun-
tries. While there, they were encouraged to take part in conversations on topics such as sustainability and learn more about other cultures. They also had the opportunity to take part in almost 50 different outdoor activities such as white water rafting, rock climbing, and mountain climbing and zip lining.

ANGRY Parish Councillors in Aughton are calling on parents to ‘rein in’ teenage yobs who go on wrecking sprees in the village. A sports pavilion was the latest property to be targeted by young vandals when they smashed a pavilion window with a house brick, causing damage to a washbasin inside the building. It is the latest in a series of incidents in the area causing the parish council to turn to parents for their help in stopping the culprits. The council has also criticised local police for not doing more despite promises it would. Lancashire Police has said it has increased its presence in the village but they have not seen youths doing anything unlawful. Ever since razor blades were found taped
Vandals targeted a sports pavilion
Report by Kenny Parker to children’s slides in the Winifred Lane play area last year, an incident which was reported nationwide, the parish council says it has been plagued with antisocial behaviour and vandalism. The catalogue of incidents include teenagers on mountain bikes congregating at Quarry Woodland off Delph Lane where, it is claimed, they have damaged woodland, litter the area and cause ‘a general nuisance’.
‘The levels of antisocial behaviour in Aughton are at unprecedented levels’
The parish council car park off Winifred Lane is alleged to have been the scene of drug dealing and drug misuse and there have been numerous reports over the past year of antisocial behaviour at both the Winifred Lane and the Cherry Tree Lane play areas and park. Vandals have also caused damage to the rear door and window of the sports pavilion off Winifred Lane and also to the adjacent bowling green. The parish council claim residents are being ‘terrorised’ by the behaviour of the youths. In a joint statement, parish councillors told the Champion: “These incidents have a common feature, local youths aged 14 16, but others from Merseyside, and Ormskirk, out unattended, often late at night.
