Champ will return as soon as possible

DEAR Champion readers, advertisers and suppliers. We will be back! Local news prepared by professional journalists and delivered FREE to your door every week is what the Champion is all about... but without advertising income from local businesses who are now in lockdown, we fear this will not be possible at least for the next few weeks.

Ironically, there has never been a more vital need to deliver local news that covers and tackles the issues affecting your lives and livelihoods than right now. As in the first lockdown we are frustrated that we cannot fund this service for you. However, we will be back as soon as possible. The fighting spirit of the Champion team remains as strong as ever. In the meantime, we will continue to

bring you news on the FREE ChampNews website and Facebook page. Working from home we ask you to stay in touch with us. Let us know how the lockdown is affecting you, your families, friends, your employment and your businesses. So tell us your stories, good news and how we can help your business make it through this difficult time. The Champion might not come

through your door for a while, but we are still here for you and will do our best to bring you informative and interesting local news and views. We will also continue to share your business on our Facebook page. Please contact us on 07881 338938 for more information. In the meantime, stay safe and take great care of each other. Best wishes - your Champion Team

NOW FOR LOCKDOWN 2 Essential council services will continue across the borough... but for local businesses it’s yet another devastating hammer blow

Stephen with his letter from the Queen

Community fundraiser receives thank you letter from the Queen for efforts during first lockdown A SEFTON man has been sent a special thank you from the Queen for his efforts during the first lockdown. Stephen Incledon has been raising money and keeping up

morale for other residents at James Horrigan Court. The Bootle resident has been doing his best to raise funds for the NHS after watching their heroics during the pandemic.

And he was delighted to receive correspondence from the Queen for all his hard work, as well as other thank you cards from other residents at James Horrigan Court

A HARD-HITTING four-week lockdown comes into force from tomorrow, Thursday, in a bid to bring rising numbers of coronavirus cases back under control. The measures will remain in place until Wednesday, December 2, although there are fears the lockdown could be extended further. It will mean: l People will be told to stay at home except for education, work (if it can't be done from home), exercise and recreation, medical reasons, shopping for food and other essentials, or to care for others l All pubs and restaurants will have to close (but takeaways and deliveries can continue) l All non-essential shops will have to close (but supermarkets can sell nonessential goods) l Households will not be allowed to mix with others indoors, or in private gardens l Schools, colleges and universities will remain open l Workplaces will be asked to stay open if people cannot work from home including construction and manufacturing

l Outdoor exercise and recreation will be allowed, but gyms will have to close l Clinically vulnerable advised not to go to work if they are unable to work from home l Individuals can meet one person from outside their household in an outside public space l Support bubbles for people who live alone and households made up of single parents and children can continue l Children will be able to move between homes if their parents are separated.

Cllr Ian Maher, (below) Leader of Sefton Council, said: “I understand these new measures will come as disappointing news for both our residents and many businesses, all of whom have worked so hard to ensure we are as safe and as resilient as we can possibly be during the ongoing pandemic. “It is imperative everyone follows the latest national government guidelines to save lives and protect our fantastic NHS network and social care services which the Council provides. “Sefton Council, its partners and the Liverpool City Region have been working non-stop to keep everyone as safe as possible and drive down COVID-19 figures and the health and wellbeing of our residents remains our top priority. “Essential council services will continue as they have done throughout the pandemic and I would like to put on record my heartfelt thanks to all of our staff who have been tirelessly working to support our most vulnerable members of the community, alongside providing those vital day to day services which are critical to the borough.
