‘COLD BLOODED EXECUTION’ Cassie’s ‘evil killer’ jailed for 26 years
Andrew Burke starting a life sentence for murder of travel agent Cassie Hayes
THE “evil” killer who carried out the coldblooded execution of a Southport travel agent in front of customers and colleagues has been jailed for life and been told he may never be released. On Monday, April 9, a judge told Andrew Burke, who slit the throat of 28-year-old Cassie Hayes in a planned revenge attack blaming her for the break-down of his former relationship, that he must serve at least 26 years behind bars. “This was a cowardly act of revenge designed to kill and you did kill a totally innocent person in broad daylight in front of and witnessed by so many,” said Judge David Aubrey, QC. “You perpetrated a cold-blooded execution in public for the purpose of revenge and in my judgement the killing was an act of unspeakable savagery,” he said. The young mum-of-one died almost instantly

He told the currency cashier, “I just want to apologise for what I am about to do.” Liverpool Crown Court heard that he was fixated and obsessed with Cassie as she was in a relationship with Burke’s former partner, Laura Williams, mother of his youngest child.
