Das Boot crew sails into resort!

Report by Danielle Thompson HOPES that former live-music venue, the Fox and Goose, might reopen in the future appear to have been dashed after the developer who bought the pub revealed he wants to turn it into ‘affordable housing’. John Jennings, 72, who moved to Southport three years ago from Nottingham, is the new owner of the two-storey Cable Street venue and the three-bedroomed house adjacent to it. This week he told the Champion he plans to turn them both into a new development comprising nine flats and two studio apartments. His company, Trent Homes Limited, are in the process of preparing to submit a planning application to Sefton Council. He said: “I like to buy and do up properties and this one seemed a great chance to provide affordable housing, for under £100,000, in the town centre. There are already a lot of bars nearby, with O’Learys Irish Bar and the Ship and Anchor both on Cable Street itself. “I love Southport’s rich history. We are already working on the plans and I am excited. I am hoping to enhance the area further and to create something special, contributing to the future of Southport.” Continued inside
