Laura Hollinrake, outside her Northern Quarter Barbers on Leicester Road
Laura launches free haircuts for homeless A TOWN centre barber has launched a scheme to help the homeless. Laura Hollinrake, 49, who owns the Northern Quarter Barbers on Leicester Road, will donate eight free haircuts a month to the homeless people of Southport, starting this month. She said: “I know what it feels like as three years ago, I was homeless myself at Christmas and I know how low and lonely you feel. “Before Christmas I held a drive to donate toiletries to homeless people and now I hope to do a bit more. “I will be providing eight free haircuts a month for homeless people as we all know how good it feels to have a haircut and clean hair. “Hopefully I can bring some happiness to others with this small offer.”
POLICE OFFICER CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORN IS SPARED JAIL Court told Darren Wright had suffered mental health problems after twice fighting leukaemia
A MERSEYSIDE police officer was caught with a collection of almost 1,500 indecent images of children. Darren Wright, who admitted downloading and sharing pictures of child pornography, walked free from court on Monday, January 8 after a judge heard that he suffered mental health problems after twice fighting leukaemia. Liverpool Crown Court was told that 38year-old Wright, who was sacked in October from the job he loved, had amassed the collection over a two year period.
By our Court Reporter Robert Jones, prosecuting, said that when police officers raided the Southport house Wright shares with his parents, on June 9 last year, he was anxious to retain some medical appointments from his mobile phone and police said there was no difficulty in him doing so, provided it was under supervision.
