BOOSTER JABS STEPPED UP TO HELP STOP OMICRON WAVE Report by Tom Martin

Lottery winner Emma brings festive cheer to War veteran ONE of the North West’s biggest lottery winners has brought some festive cheer to a 104year-old Sefton war veteran. Emma Cartwright, from Formby, scooped a whopping £6.5m on EuroMillions in 2009 and she’s been spreading her good fortune this Christmas by gifting 104-year-old Tom Beevers from Maghull, with a giant luxury hamper filled with essentials and a few surprises!

Emma (pictured above) was one of several lottery winners from the north west who joined forces to hand out hampers to worthy recipients. Tom, who still lives in his own home, served in the Second World War with the famous Desert Rats in North Africa. He has recently battled Covid, but says he is now looking forward to Christmas more than ever!

RESIDENTS across Sefton have been urged by health officials to get their Covid-19 booster jab as a huge national effort gets underway to prevent a ‘tidal wave’ of the Omicron variant. From today (Wednesday), anyone aged 18 and over can now book a third jab - as long as it has been three months since the second dose - as the government aims to give boosters to all adults who want one by the end of December. It has been described by the NHS as the “biggest and fastest vaccine programme in health service history” and to help reach this ambitious target, the military will be deployed across every region to offer support, extra vaccine sites will be set-up, opening hours of clinics will be extended and thousands more volunteer vaccinators will be trained.

12, with Boris Johnson urging people to protect themselves and others against an “Omicron tidal wave.” N HS Providers, which represents N HS hospitals, mental health, community and ambulance services, said the booster campaign offered an opportunity to contain the impact of Omicron but added the NHS was already ‘beyond full stretch’ and that there would be an impact on other care as more staff became involved in the vaccination campaign. Margaret Jones, Sefton Council’s Director of Public Health, said: “Making sure you are fully vaccinated, which means jabs one and two and a booster, is still the best protection from the Covid-19 virus.” The government has already introduced Plan B restrictions including a requirement to wear face masks in more settings, working from home if possible and the need to show proof of vaccination or a negative test if entering certain venues such as nightclubs.
