DJ Adele reveals she’s cancer free SOUTHPORT-born DJ Adele Roberts has revealed she’s free of bowel cancer, saying the news ‘took her breath away’. The BBC Radio 1 presenter, who has spoken openly about her cancer journey, revealed the ‘beautiful news’ on Monday in an emotional social media post. Adele first announced in October last year that she had been diagnosed with cancer and had undergone surgery to remove a tumour.

She has since been widely praised for sharing her experiences of chemotherapy, and having a stoma bag fitted, with the aim of bringing more awareness to the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer. In a lengthy post, the 43year-old, who is a former pupil of Merchant Taylor’s in Crosby, thanked the “angels from the NHS” before saying “it’s time now for me to start really living.” Continued inside

Meols Cop Road with Foul Lane. The unnamed footpath will be temporarily closed from July 28, 2022 until May 31, 2023 or until the works are completed. Work to build the new Sainsbury’s store could get underway as early as next month with contractors moving on site. A Sainsbury’s spokesperson confirmed:

“We’re pleased that our plans for Meols Cop Retail Park will now go ahead and we look forward to opening our new store once built.” As well as the supermarket, there will also be a petrol station, a public recycling facility and new car parking. A planning application to build a mega store on Meols Cop retail park was first submitted to Sefton Council in 2015. When the proposal was first revealed, it was met with huge opposition due to concerns it would lead to a drop in town centre footfall and harm local businesses. Continued on page 5
