INSIDE THIS WEEK: Trust reveals NO Covid patients at hospital for first time in 12 months FOR the first time in more than a year, there are currently NO patients admitted at Southport Hospital with the coronavirus, as of yesterday (May 4) The optimistic news comes just weeks after the first phase of normality returning with lockdown restrictions being eased. Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust have now reported no inpatients being actively treated for Covid-19 for the first time since last year on Friday, April 30. In the first wave of the pandemic, the figures for the Trust peaked in April 2020 at around 100 and gradually dropped off to very low numbers by October but these spiked again by November, levelling over the Christmas period. At the peak of the pandemic, earlier this year, there were more than 150 patients being treated at the Trust. These numbers, which went up very rapidly in the New Year, have come down in a steady decline from the worst in February 2021, with the ‘no Covid patients’ news being confirmed this week by health chiefs. Last year, when the pandemic took hold, the Trust re-deployed staff in a bid to meet the challenges of the pandemic. They treated patients in red wards for suspected or known covid cases
