‘DELIGHTED to be back!’ That’s the message of hope, relief and sheer joy from business owners after shops, hairdressers, gyms and outdoor hospitality were allowed to reopen on Monday (April 12) under plans set out by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The four-step roadmap for ending lockdown means that up to six people from separate households are able to meet outdoors, while all legal limits on social contact could be lifted by June 21. It requires four tests on vaccines, infection rates and new coronavirus variants to be met at each stage. Non-essential shops and beauty salons are open in England and Wales for the first time in months, as Covid rules are eased across the UK. Meanwhile, gyms, zoos, hairdressers and libraries have also reopened, while restaurants and pubs can welcome customers outside. In Southport and Formby, alfresco drinking was the order of the day helped along with a generous mix of sunshine (though cold!) and plenty of good cheer from happy customers. Welcoming the easing of restrictions, Southport MP Damien Moore said: “I know many of my constituents are looking forward to making a safe and happy return to their favourite shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants as we move to the next stage on the roadmap out of lockdown. “This week’s easing of restrictions will give much optimism to residents and businesses in Southport that we’re now firmly on the path to bouncing back from this pandemic.” Formby MP Bill Esterson added: “It is encouraging that more shops will be open and that we will be able to eat and drink outside at restaurants and pubs and use indoor leisure facilities. “Lockdown has hit businesses hard and they need our support.
