Death of Lord Ronnie Fearn announced
Ski glory for Rocket man Dave
It’s called the Tower of Hope... and ambitious developer, Andrew Mikhail, wants to build it right here in Southport
HIGH IN THE SKY... OR JUST PIE IN THE SKY? IT’S called the Tower of Hope... if built would stand 178 metres tall, and is a 48 storey mega-building that would be one of the tallest constructions outside of London. And the man behind the ‘deadly serious plan’ wants to build the Tower of Hope right here in Southport - on Lord Street! So, is it a Tower of Hope or a hopeless tower that will never see the light of day? Will it reign supreme high in the sky - or is it simply pie-in-the-sky? These incredible images show how Lord Street could boast one of the highest buildings in the country as part of an incredibly ambitious plan to build it on the site of the former Grand Casino. The Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group, which already owns a number of other prominent venues in the town, wants to build the 178 metre tall building, which they are calling The Tower of Hope. By way of comparison, the Radio City Tower in Liverpool is 138m tall and The Shard in London, which is the tallest building in the UK, stands at 310m high. If built, the Tower of Hope will contain 109 hotel rooms, more than 140 apartments, a restaurant, a wedding venue, a

Report by Tom Martin bar and a substantial car park. The ambitious project would be part of the ongoing work currently taking place to breathe fresh life into the historic Grand Casino. Andrew Mikhail, chairman of Mikhail Hotel & Leisure Group, believes it would be “the single biggest project that will have come to Southport.” He said: “New York City started with a single brick once upon a time as did London and every major city and town. We need to cherish our past and we should be building our own future so other generations can bask in our glory rather than keep talking and referring to our past continuously.” The Tower of Hope would add to The Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group’s growing portfolio in Southport, with the company already owning The Bold Hotel, Lord Street Hotel, Punch Tarmey’s Irish Pub and Lord Street Sports Bar.
