Two teenagers arrested after ‘disgraceful and sustained assault’ on 15-year-old Report by Henry James TWO boys, aged 16 and 14, have been arrested following the “disgraceful and sustained assault” of a teenager in Maghull on Friday, November 22. At 4.40pm, police were called to a report that a 15-year-old boy had been assaulted by three males on King George V Recreation Ground, near to Maghull High School on Ormonde Drive, sustaining facial and head injuries. He was taken by ambulance to hospital. On Friday, November 29 the two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent. They have since been released under investigation as enquiries continue. Detective Inspector Lee Wilkinson said: “This was a disgraceful and sustained assault of a teenage boy, who was thankfully not more seriously injured, and we’re determined to find those responsible. “I’d encourage any witnesses or anyone else who holds information, whether young people, their parents and carers, to come forward, and we will take the appropriate action.” Witness and CCTV enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC or 101 with reference 19100684713 or you can pass information via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

WILDFLOWER MEADOW IS AN ‘EARLY PRESENT FROM AND TO OUR COMMUNITY’ Trees, hedges and bulbs planted by volunteers as project gets underway after fundraising success Report by Henry James PLANTING has begun for a wildflower meadow in Maghull following a successful crowdfunding campaign. Landscaping and planting began at the meadow on Stafford Morton Way in Maghull, organised by the newly formed Friends of Maghull and District charity group. Three areas of land have been stripped of turf, rotovated and planted with 12 trees, 28 metres of mixed wildlife friendly hedging and 1,500 spring bulbs. The work was undertaken by local volunteers, including Ashworth Hospital Gardeners, schoolchildren from St George’s and Green Park Primary Schools, and Mersey Forest. Wood chippings are being supplied by Paul Richards. Dr Frank Sharp (FOMD Trustee) said: “Roy, Laurence and I are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped on this cold but sunny day.

Green Park Primary and St George’s primary school children, with head gardener Paul Pruden, Neil, Chris from Ashworth Hospital Gardeners and Frank Sharp.

“It has been a fantastic community response from everyone throughout and at this time of the year it feels like an early Christmas present from the community to the community. “Stage two of the project will be undertaken in April 2020 and will involve laying wildflower turf,

installing a noticeboard and a galvanised steel recycling sculpture.” Further information and updates can be found on www.spacehive.com/stafford-moreton and donations are still being collected in Morrisons and Home Bargains.
