Further work vital as accidents still common despite safety revamp, says councillor Report by Kenny Parker Charlie (left) and Kyle show off their medals
Charlie is the world number one - again! A NINE-YEAR-OLD from Maghull has been crowned a world champion kick-boxer for the second year in a row. Charlie Knox won gold in the ISKA World Kickboxing & Karate Championships in Cork, Ireland - a year after he won the 2018 competition held in Jamaica. The Hudson Primary School pupil trains at Senshi Academy in Childwall. Charlie’s club mate Kyle, 10, whose parents are chief instructors at the academy, also won a gold medal in his own category. The achievement means the youngsters now have the full set of British, European and world titles in their collection Charlie’s mum Justine said: “Both boys trained extremely hard for this world championships. “They started their training programme as early as six o’clock every morning for a four week training camp. “They then committed to three hours training after school every day during the week. So, to see them both get the victories was an emotional moment. “I am extremely proud of Charlie’s amazing achievements at such a young age.”

CALLS are being made for a further safety review and a fly-over to be built at the busy Switch Island junction near Maghull after claims that accidents are still happening despite a major revamp project. A £5million project was carried out by Highways England last year in a bid to reduce the number of accidents which included improving the traffic lights, re-marking the roads and installing airport-runway-style lights into the surface which guide motorists into the right lane.
