In Bloom group needs your help to plant bulbs in Bobby ’s Wood AWARD winning Maghull in Bloom is organising a bulb planting session at Bobby’s Wood then at 10am on Saturday (October 20) in which families with young children are invited to help the volunteers plant about 4,000 ‘tet-atete’ bulbs - so if you are interested, just turn up! Bobby's Wood is at the junction of Northway with Liverpool Road South - a small wooded area only recently reacquired by Maghull Town Council from Sefton Council. Maghull in Bloom chairman, George Baker, told the Champion: “As this area is one of the first things motorists see when entering the town from Switch Island, we decided, with the permission from the Town Council, to add some colour. “We also want children to be involved in their natural environment and this is a way of them creating a lasting memory of them doing something to improve the town.” The volunteers are also finalising their winter displays at other sites across Maghull and have recently replaced baskets and planters in Central Square with pansies. “As a volunteer group we work throughout the year to create these award winning displays which does rake quite a lot of the committee member's time in organising,” said George. “This is why we are always on the lookout for more help. “We recently lost a couple of committee members and could do with some extra help to work on finance and administrative issues.” Anyone interested in joining can go along to the group’s open AGM on Friday October 26 in Maghull Town Hall at 7pm - or phone George Baker on 0151 526 0788.

RISING ANGER OVER ‘UNFAIR’ PARKING FINES
INSIDE THIS WEEK...
Report by Kenny Parker MOTORISTS continue to complain of being unfairly ticketed when parking in Maghull. The Champion has received numerous complaints from users of Central Square in Maghull since it reported the case of Claire Chapple who was fined by Euro Parking Services for parking in a disabled bay which wasn’t clearly marked. Another motorist, Billy Haynes, a retired parking services supervisor for Liverpool City Council, also said he had been ticketed at the square because a parking bay was not clearly marked. Since these tickets were issued landlords London and Cambridge Properties have repainted the white lines on the car park. But now, Fran Hoban, 70,says that she has also been given a ticket for parking in a disabled bay which is not clearly marked. She said: “What is going on at Maghull Square? Are the company who issue the fines totally without any empathy at all? “Are they trying to make the good people of Maghull, Lydiate and the wider locality broke, unhappy and force us away from the shops? As this is likely to be the result of their actions. “I had sad news of a friend’s husband’s passing and I wanted to get her a card. I parked in what I thought was a normal parking space “I did not notice a yellow sign under my car or I would not have parked there.

I am a law abiding citizen.” Another motorist 85-year-old Elizabeth Charles says she had parked in the centre of the square’s car park for five minutes while she went to the bank. She is disabled, and displayed her disabled person’s badge but was subsequently issued with a £60 fixed penalty for her stay. “I just parked. There were no markings

at all and I did not realise I shouldn’t park there,” she said, “I am a pensioner, I had only gone to get some money.” Meanwhile John Hayes has a different kind of complaint. He says he was issued with a ticket for parking over the white line at the car park at Morrisons store in the town, which is also managed by Euro Parking Services and Continued inside
