Central Square owners LCP are responsible for ‘eyesore’ scrubland site Report by Henry James OWNERS of Maghull Central Square shopping centre, London and Cambridge Properties (LCP), have been asked by MP Bill Esterson to clean up a piece of scrubland near the town centre which he has branded an “eyesore.” The Champion reported about the state of the overgrown patch of land next to the new Home Bargains store, which is bordered by Stafford Moreton Way and Liverpool Road North at the end of August. It was highlighted that there was some confusion as to who was responsible for its upkeep. The MP has now been told the land is owned by London and Cambridge Properties and not Sefton Council as orginally thought.. He said: “Sefton Council’s legal team initially informed my office that they believed the land was owned and managed by the council. “When I asked the council to look into it further they discovered through looking at the land registry title deeds that it is in fact owned by LCP. “I have written to LCP to ask that they clear up the land and I have also written to Sefton Council to ask them to ensure LCP do so. “I am also meeting with LCP soon and will raise the issue then if it the problem hasn’t already been adequately addressed.” Residents have contacted the Champion with their concerns about the patch of land. Dr Frank Sharp said: “Many

And following inclusion in last year’s Top 10, a new planning application has been submitted to convert Buckley’s Brewery Maltings in Llanelli into apartments, which will see the neglected heritage asset restored back into the community. this year. Griff Rhys Jones, President of the Victorian Society, said: “These are pieces of the history of the Victorian era and its industrial, spiritual and cultural beliefs – incredible. “And this makes their current sad and neglected state even harder to swallow. “Every single building on this list is crying out for redevelopment and could make something truly wonderful for its community. “Join us and help them.”

people see this patch of land as there is a high footfall in that area. “For it to be in a such a bad state is not acceptable. “Someone should be taking some responsibility for it and I am sure there are local groups which could help maintain it.”

Sue Langley added: “The piece of ‘scrubland’ on the corner of Stafford Moreton Way and Liverpool Road North is indeed an eyesore and I hope it is cleared and maintained as a matter of priority.” London and Cambridge Properties has been contacted for comment.

No brexit deal could lead to Grand National being run without Irish jockeys and horses THE British Horseracing Authority has warned that next year's Grand National at Aintree could be run without Irish jockeys and horses if this country leaves the EU without a deal. Next year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 6, which is soon after the UK is to leave the EU (March 29). There is a tripartite agreement in horseracing between Britain, Ireland

and France, which means there is a free movement of horses between these countries. “The BHA believes that each year there are 26,000 movements of thoroughbred horses between the countries. There are worries that this agreement may not still be applicable if the UK leaves the EU with a no deal. The BHA's Ross Hamilton told the BBC: “If the posi-

tion was that the UK government chose to immediately put up borders and tariffs, then it would make it extremely difficult for thoroughbreds to move. “It would be only a month ahead of the Grand National in 2019, which would be quite an impact a threat to potentially Irish horses participating in that race, Irish jockeys being able to compete in our races over here if it was a

really hard no-deal Brexit.” The BHA has been looking at the possible outcomes of a no Brexit deal and preparing for that outcome. They believe this country want to maintain the status quo but are not sure what the EU's response will be. Since 1999, eight Irishtrained horses have won the Grand National. The winner this year was Tiger Roll, which is stabled in County Meath in the Republic of Ireland.
