SPORTS CLUBS TEAM UP FOR NEURO CENTRE THAT SAVED TEENAGER’S LIFE

INSIDE THIS WEEK...

Football and cricket teams to hold event in aid of facility that treated young player who was injured when hit by a car

Two women arrested over arson attack

Report by Kenny Parker MAGHULL’S football and cricket clubs are teaming up to raise funds for the Walton Neuro Centre to give thanks for the care it has given to teenager Alex Moffitt who was seriously injured after being hit by a car earlier this year. Alex Moffitt, 18, who is a player for both clubs, along with St Helens Town FC suffered serious head injuries when he was walking home with friends one evening in March this year when he was struck by a car which had mounted the pavement. Alex suffered a fractured skull and bleeding to the brain as well as a broken foot, and damaged ligaments in his knee in the incident. After being in a coma for two weeks and spending time in rehabilitation Alex is now back home and is “slowly but surely” getting back to full health. A 50-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and a Merseyside Police investigation is ongoing. Andy Boyd, from Maghull FC said: “Without the amazing staff at the Walton Centre, Alex wouldn’t be with us today. “Coupled with Alex’s strength and determination, they ultimately saved his life.” The sports event has been organised to acknowledge the work carried out by the Walton Centre and also Alex’s contribution and commitment to both clubs. Organisers said: “Alex is a keen and competitive sportsman and represented both Maghull football and cricket clubs for many years with great distinction.” Both clubs have already raised £1,500 for the Walton

While in hospital Alex was visited by former Everton FC players Graham Stuart and Duncan Ferguson and Everton in The Community has offered Alex and his brother Nathan a VIP trip to Goodison Park.
