'We believe experience is priceless'

the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and local horticulture award winner Don Billington is helping them to revitalise the raised beds. He said: “We’ve put in thousands of bulbs and plants and will be bringing on more plants throughout the year.”

AINTREE Library Action Group insist they will continue in preparing a bid to buy the former library building on Altway – despite a rival bid by a church to take over the facility. Since the Aintree library building was put up for sale by Sefton Council, the group have been working to find a way to purchase the property. They will submit a tender in May, to buy the building. Gwen Bleasdale, the former chair of Aintree Library Action Group (ALAG), said: “Since our bid to run a community library was rejected by Sefton Council last year, the commitment made to the community to re–open the library and provide other services for the community from the building has not wavered. “Securing this building has always been about keeping it to be used by the community and re–opening the library. The building is a really important asset for the community and we want to make sure it is

Plans put forward to buy building despite rival proposal from church available and accessible for the whole community for years to come.” The action group asked Aintree Village Parish Council to continue their support for the library bid last year, but they declined to do so. They instead pledged their support to a rival bid from Aintree Village Family Church who want to use the building as a church with a library facility included. Mrs Bleasdale added: “If we are successful, a charity will be set up to run the library again. “We will also provide other services, including re–instating the activities provided before and adding more, such as a gardening club, book club, educational classes and advice sessions. “The community will have the opportunity to say what they want to see too. “The charity will be granted a

long–term lease for the building to secure the facilities for full community use. Action group member Marcus Bleasdale added: ”We want the community to know we are passionate about keeping Aintree Library for the community and hope to do so with a successful bid to buy the building and then set up a charity to run it. “My grandfather and father built the building and the area is of great importance to our family. “I will be continuing to do everything in my power to secure the library building for everyone locally, as an important place for people to meet socially, as well as offering educational, advice and employment opportunities. “Aintree Library has been part of our community for over 50 years. We do not want to lose it forever.
