Shots fired at house in ’targeted’ house attack Merseytravel say cash will be enough to plant ‘two or three trees’ MERSEYTRAVEL say the £1,000 offer was to pay for the cost of planting two or three trees to offer privacy, but can be used for other measures by residents if they prefer. A spokesperson said: “The £1,000 contribution figure is derived from the average cost of planting two to three trees. “For some residents, planting trees is not an option they would like to take up as they may already be using the space at the end of their garden. “For these residents there is the option to take the window film or blinds. “We are advising all residents to wait until the station construction is complete to see whether the enhanced privacy measures are required. “They may find the mitigating features in the station design, such as the 2.6m high acoustic fencing at the back of the garden, is sufficient. “This offer will remain until 12 months after the station has opened.”
RAILWAY STATION £1,000 PRIVACY OFFER REJECTED Resident who has a lift shaft and bridge overlooking his bedroom describes the amount offered as ‘an insult’ Report by Kenny Parker AN offer of £1,000 by Merseytravel to buy privacy measures for those living near to Maghull North railway station which is currently under construction has been rejected by residents. Merseytravel said it made the offer so residents on Mersey Avenue could buy trees, shrubs, blinds or window film to cover the view of the station from their gardens and houses and to give them privacy from commuters once the station is in operation. Residents have rejected the offer, however, as Maghull town councillor Matthew Gannon, who lives on the road, said the amount is not adequate to fund the costs needed.
