Veterans team up for Poppy Appeal MEMBERS of Skelmersdale Veterans’ Association and Skelmersdale Ex Servicemen’s Association are teaming up for the forthcoming Poppy Appeal. They are receiving 15 self-assembly poppy boxes, which are new for this year, and are asking if anyone would like a box for their school or office. Anyone interested should contact Alan Lewis on 07939 660048. The veterans will be collecting at the Concourse shopping centre and Asda from this Friday, (October 25). Chairman of the Skelmersdale Veterans’ Association, Alan Lewis, said: “As a town, Skelmersdale has strong links to the military. COUNCIL MAKES MOVE TO DRIVE TOWN CENTRE VISION FORWARD Report by Henry James WEST Lancashire Borough Council has promised to ‘take all necessary steps’ to drive forward development plans for a new Skelmersdale Town Centre. A new centre has been a ‘vision’ for years but plans to reinvent the town as a place fit for the future have failed to make it beyond anything other than a pipedream for residents. However, in a significant step forward last Wednesday, the council voted through recommendations to drive forward with the physical delivery of the regeneration. At a meeting of the Full Council, borough councillors voted to delegate authority to the Director of Development and Regeneration ‘to take all necessary steps to enable a Phase 1 scheme to pro-
