touch upon other issues including the health service and other local authorities. “That is why events like this are crucial, bringing partners together and offering the best opportunity to tackle some of the issues that are raised.”

Report by Henry James OFFICERS from Skelmersdale Police will team up with colleagues from the Lancashire Fire and Rescue and North West Ambulance services, local council representatives and community and faithbased groups at a special event to discuss ways of working together effectively to create a ‘safer town to live in, work and visit.’ This will be held in the Hope Theatre at West Lancashire College, Northway on Tuesday, March 24 starting at 7pm. It is expected to last around two hours. Members of the public are encouraged to attend, along with people who live, work or volunteer in West Lancashire, to discuss any issues they face and how all can work together for the good of the community. However places must be registered prior to the event by calling 0161 393 451. Geographic inspector of West Lancashire Police, Ellie Kanoun, said: “It’s

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper commented: “With continued relentless funding cuts to services it is vital that the police continue to work closely with the community so that they can provide a reliable service that residents have confidence in. “I will continue to campaign in Parliament for adequate funding for our police, ambulance and fire and rescue services, while I encourage community groups and residents to engage with events such as these to ensure you can say what your priorities are and what you need from each of the services.” Members of the public are urged to raise matters that concern a number of services, as this will not be an exclusive police drop-in.

Warning to dog owners after family pet is killed in attack A SKELMERSDALE couple are warning dog owners in the town to be on their guard after their pet was fatally injured after being attacked by two Staffordshire Bull Terriertype dogs. The attack took place on Saturday, February 8 as Denise Hudson was walking the family’s nine-year-old cavapoo silky cross, Roxy, in the Spencer’s Lane/Ormskirk Road area at around 10.15am. Now Mrs Hudson’s husband, Nigel, is urging other local dog-owners to be vigilant when exercising their pets. He said: “Unfortunately our beloved Roxy died at the scene within minutes of the attack. We had her for nine-and-a- The Hudsons’ pet half years and we are Roxy which was attacked by two devastated by this. “My wife was morti- Staffordshire Bull fied and in a state of Terrier-types. shock after it happened. Fortunately we live nearby, and I was able to go and bring her home. “The police have been informed and the council is investigating the information we have given them. “We would urge all dog owners to stay vigilant when walking their dogs in the area as these two dogs are vicious and unmuzzled and will attack. We wouldn’t like this to happen to anyone else’s pet. “If a dog needs a muzzle, it should be wearing one.” A spokesman for West Lancs Council told the Champion: “The council can confirm that this incident has been reported to us and we are investigating.”
