£1.3m VISITOR HUB SCHEME FOR NATIONAL TRUST SITE
Report by Danielle Thompson PLANS are being finalised for a state-of-the-art £1.3million ‘Visitor Hub’ at the National Trust’s Lifeboat Road site in Formby. Last week, the Champion revealed the trust is to install three new pay and display machines at its car park on Lifeboat Road, which were passed at the latest planning committee meeting on Wednesday, November 13 – as part of its long-term plans for the site. A consultation was held in the summer for ‘a vision for Lifeboat Road’ which focuses on new visitor facilities including a National Trust Visitor Hub. Inside this will be a cafe; toilets; a welcome, membership and retail area; staff kitchenette and WC; school store; kitchens; storage area and office. The total footprint area of the buildings are 550m2. The project, which is expected to cost between £1,229,500 and £1,354,500 will be rolled out in three stages. Phase one will see the cafe and kitchen building built alongside the toilets. Phase two will see the welcome and retail section developed, and phase three will include a courtyard with a shelter, staff facilities and storage area. Continued inside
