PORTRAIT OF A WAR HERO
WIN! Family tickets for Gulliver’s HUNDREDS of residents turned out to take part in a unique public commemorative event on Formby Beach on Remembrance Sunday. Pages Of The Sea was devised by film-maker Danny Boyle to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One. The Formby event was one of 32 around the country featuring portraits etched in the sand of soldiers who left for the First World War by sea. It came to a poignant end when the image was washed away by the incoming sea. The portrait chosen for the Formby commemoration was of Captain John Basil Armitage. His picture was drawn into the sand early Sunday morning before disappearing into the noon tide. Continued inside
