CCTV BID TO CATCH YOBS WHO CARRIED OUT BEACH ATTACK New images released in police appeal to catch thugs who beat up a teenager with baseball bats Report by Danielle Thompson CCTV images have been released in a bid to identify a gang who are believed to have used weapons including baseball bats, coshes and a spiked knuckle-duster in an ‘unprovoked attack’ on Formby beach in July. As reported in the Champion a teenager was beaten up so badly in the vicious attack by a gang of yobs that on-lookers thought they were going to kill him. Charlie Sanderson, aged 16, was with a group of friends, both boys and girls, when he was attacked by the group who were like a ‘pack of animals’ according to eye-witnesses. His mum Claire Louise Husband, speaking on social media, said that Charlie, from Warrington, and his friends, visited the beach to play football and have a barbecue on Tues-

fractured skull as well as deep cuts to his head. The offenders were reported to have dispersed into the sand dunes before police officers arrived. Now Merseyside Police have issued CCTV stills of a number of youths that they believe could have information which would assist their investigation. Detective Inspector Catherine Walsh said: “We are hoping to get a good response to our further appeal as this was a shocking incident on a teenage boy who should be able to go to the beach without fear of being assaulted. “This happened on one of the hottest days of the year and there were many people there enjoying the sunshine, so someone must have seen something. “We believe members of the public who witnessed the offence itself have not yet come forward and we would appeal to them to help us in our investigation. “If you have any information at all about the incident, do the right thing and help us bring the offenders to justice.” l Merseyside Police would like to speak to any of the youths pictured or anyone who may recognise one of them.
