DANNY’S THE BOY!

Formby man with seven Guinness World Records to his name, now breaks the British record for swimming all 13 of the Lake District’s lakes in the fastest time recorded Report by Danielle Thompson

Danny Longman completed the challenge at Lake Windermere

A FORMBY man who has already set several world records has added another title to his incredible list of achievements - this time breaking the British record for the fastest time to swim the full length of all 13 lakes in the Lake District. Dr Danny Longman, 32, who had surgery to reattach a ruptured pectoral muscle earlier this year, chose to make the 45-mile swimming challenge even harder for himself by cycling 125 miles between the lakes during the three-and-a-half day challenge last week – even though he had been struck down by a stomach bug! The former St Jerome's Primary School pupil, who studied natural sciences in his degree, Masters and PHD at Cambridge University, is now a physiology lecturer at Loughborough University specialising in human adaptation to extreme endurance challenges. Danny - who describes himself as a ‘biological anthropologist’ is now the British Outdoor Wild Swimming record-holder for completing the feat.

Danny, has previously broken seven official Guinness World Records which include rowing across the Arctic Ocean and an unsupported cycle of the length of Latin America.

How the lodges could look

Formby Hall’s eco-lodges project goes before planners FORMBY Hall bosses are hoping it’s a case of third time lucky for a project to build 11 woodland lodges at the golf resort. Plans have been recommended for approval at Sefton Council's planning committee meeting which meets this week. The plans have already been deferred twice due to debates over the scheme’s impact on the Green Belt. The timber lodges would each be two-bedroom with a decking area and a kitchenette and heating and hot water provided by a proposed biomass plant, under a separate, future planning application. They would offer a ‘higher end’ luxury staycation for visitors. A range of objections have been made to the plans including from Formby Civic Society and Formby Parish Councillor Dave Irving, who flagged up fears for the loss of Green Belt, loss of ecology through impact on fauna and wildlife and the effect on climate change.
