COASTLINE TAKES BATTERING FROM STORMS

National Trust warning to walkers after dunes suffer ‘significant damage’ ‘SIGNIFICANT damage’ has been caused to parts of Formby’s prized sand dunes and coastal areas following recent storms. N ational Trust officers fear repair work will run into thousands after high winds hit the area. Wreckage from the aftermath of both Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis includes the boardwalk at Lifeboat Road and previously buried rubble which has been washed out of the dunes. Fiona Matthews, community involvement and participation officer at the N ational Trust, revealed that the storms have had a ‘huge effect’ on the coastline’. A LOCAL historian has released her latest book – which shares memories of Formby’s VE Day 50th anniversary celebrations in 1995. Joan Rimmer, who was born in Formby, has written various books and poems about the village and held talks and slide shows about its rich history.
