AN independent report has disagreed with Sefton Council's claims that horse chestnut trees in Formby need to be chopped down, and has advised that four out of five of the threatened trees DO NOT pose an immediate risk to safety and can be retained. The survey, carried out by experts from BHA Trees Ltd Arboricultural Consultants, was conducted at the site of the trees on Chapel Lane on Monday and appears to vindicate residents’ who have campaigned to stop
Sefton Council from cutting them down on safety grounds. The report was sanctioned by Formby Parish Council following complaints from furious locals who wanted Sefton Council to scrap their plan to axe the trees. Last year Sefton Council revealed their intention to axe the trees due to worries about their age and condition - but tree specialists from BHA Trees Ltd disagree with this assessment, claiming that four of the five trees pose no risk to the public. However, it was advised in the report that one of the horse chestnuts is likely to die within the next two years, so should be axed. Cont. inside
