DO MORE TO HELP STOP CRIME, POLICE URGE RESIDENTS MP meets senior officers after wave of burglaries across town SENIOR police chiefs in Formby are urging residents to do more to help stop crime, following concerns over a recent rise in burglaries and car thefts. They met with Sefton Central MP Bill Esterson after he had informed officers that some residents were ‘too scared to sleep at night’ because of the number of recent breakins. The MP said a number of his constituents had contacted him to say that they felt burglaries were becoming increasingly common in the town, fearing cuts to the police service were leaving their homes vulnerable to thieves. But Sefton Borough Commander Matthew Boyle and Area Inspector Ian Jones told Mr Esterson that residents could do more to reduce the risk of burglary by making sure

Report by Danielle Thompson doors and windows were always locked. They also advised motorists to put their car keys away from view at night to help stop car thieves. The officers pointed out that police had secured several convictions for burglary in recent months and are doing all they can to catch the people responsible for recent breakins Mr Esterson believes continuing cuts to the police service has made it harder for the police to prevent burglaries and catch offenders.
