Vol 26 l Issue 48
A WEEKLY community get-together has been launched in Crosby for locals to enjoy lunch and entertainment. Held every Wednesday between midday and 2pm at the function room at the Marine Travel Arena, on College Road, the Community Cafe is aimed at people who are looking for a friendly atmosphere and the chance to socialise. It is run by Marine in the Community and a team of volunteers will offer a light lunch of tea, coffee, sandwiches, cakes and biscuits for a suggested donation of £2. There is also a wide range of fun activities such as music, singing, dancing, karaoke, cards, dominoes and quizzes. Guests can also bring their own source of entertainment, such as board games, knitting or jigsaws. Every other week, there will be a performance by a local singer and guitarist, who plays old-time favourites. Members of nearby Bath Street Marine Table Tennis Club will also regularly call in to offer small-prize games of Play Your Cards Right and bingo. From time to time, other agencies call in to raise awareness on relevant issues such as home-security, fire/smoke alarms, welfare benefits and scam awareness. A special event will be held on Wednesday, December 18 when there will be a Christmas lunch. The Community Café will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, reopening on Wednesday, January 8. AN 18-year-old who was tragically killed in a car crash has been described as a “loveable rogue who could light up the sky with his smile” in a touching family tribute. Luke Peaurt-Moran, 18, who is a former pupil at Holy Family Catholic School in Thornton, died following the accident on Moss Lane, in Burscough at around 4am on Wednesday, November 20. It is understood Luke was a passenger in a white Audi A1 car which left the road and hit a wall and a telegraph pole, ending up on its roof. The driver of the car, Conner Stephens, 24, from Sefton, died at the scene. Donna Peaurt, who is a family member and lives in Bootle, said Luke’s organs had been donated to save the lives of three people. She wrote the following on a GoFundMe web page which has been set up to raise funds for Luke’s funeral: “We lost Luke to a head trauma which was the result of a car accident which he was sadly unable to recover from. “Words cannot describe what exactly losing our lovely Luke feels like. “It’s been heart-breaking for both family and
friends alike and especially for his mother, brothers, sister and girlfriend. “He was a cheeky lad, a loveable rogue, who could light up the sky with his smile and just had such an amazing personality and we will miss him dearly and never forget how much he meant to all of us. “Luke was just 18 years old and left us far too soon. “No mother should ever have to experience such a tragic loss especially at such a young time in his life. “In death, however, Luke will live on in our hearts and souls and also in the people who will be receiving some of his organs, which will hopefully help to save the lives of those who are in a similar situation to Luke. “To remove some of the burden from his mother - my sister, we are asking for anyone who can contribute towards his funeral arrangements to please help out, because times like this are very difficult both emotionally and financially. “Rest in peace little man. Gone, but never forgotten.” The Audi, along with a red Fiat 500 Abarth, were stolen during a burglary prior to the collision at an address in the Towngate area of Eccleston. The Fiat Abarth was later recovered on Valley Close in Crosby. Police are keen to trace anyone who may have seen the cars, or the collision itself, to help with their investigation. Det Ch Insp Richard McCutcheon said: “My thoughts and sympathies are with the family of Conner and Luke. Continued inside
