Noelle Duffy is presented the cheque by officials from Marine FC
Park group get support from Marine FC PARK volunteers from Blundellsands have been presented with a £500 cheque by Marine FC to help with their work. Noelle Duffy, from Friends of Merrilocks Park, was given the donation at the Crosby club’s recent home match when they played Pontefract Collieries at the Marine Travel Arena. The application by Friends of Merrilocks Park was picked by the President of Marine, Dave Thompson, following the initial screening by officers of Marine in the Community who administer the President’s Fund on behalf of the football club. The £500 will be used to purchase shrubs and plants to replant the four borders in Merrilocks Park, which had become wild and overgrown after years of neglect. The long-term aim of the group is to restore the park for the benefit of the local community and residents. Marine FC say they will give a £500 donation each month to a deserving charity or community group in the local area.

STORES HIT OUT AT PARKING BAN Traders say custom has been hit by introduction of double yellow lines Report by Tom Martin TRADERS based at a row of shops in Crosby claim they are losing business after double yellow lines were painted outside their stores. A joint letter sent to the Champion, signed by ten business owners on Forefield Lane, states that Sefton Council’s parking measure has resulted in “reduced trade for all our establishments.” The businesses include Classique hair salon, Lots of Vape, Brownmoor Express, Rachel’s Deli, Ace Computers, Crosby News, Booze Busters, The Beauty Sanctuary, Fong’s Hot Food and William Hill.

Sefton Council told the Champion the parking ban was brought in to stop people parking across the path which made it dangerous for pedestrians. Business owners, however, say they are not necessary and are angry that they were not consulted over the move. They claim fewer people have been visiting their stores since then. Ryan Quirk, who owns the Lots of Vape store said: “Customers no longer take their time browsing the store as they're worried about getting a parking ticket” while Steve Traynor, coowner of Ace Computers, said: “We have limited parking as it is and elderly customers can’t get anywhere near the shop during busy hours.” Victoria Sells, the owner of The Beauty Sanctuary, formerly SolarBeauty, said: “I need all the help I can get with my small business and. to park nearby free of charge.” A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “The safety of our residents is our main priority and for this reason we introduced waiting restrictions around the junctions of Forefield Lane, Brownmoor Lane and Eden Drive North in order to prevent vehicles parking, some on footways which caused an obstruction for pedestrians and visibility problems for motorists using the junctions. “The restrictions also improved the sightlines and safety for the school crossing patrol. “We do understand local business trading is important to our thriving communities and therefore, restrictions around business premises have been kept to a minimum. “But on this occasion a small number of parking spaces had to be removed to protect the safety of residents.”
