Plans to build 450 houses given the go-ahead Report by Tom Martin SEFTON Council has approved plans to build more than 450 houses in Thornton. As expected, the local authority gave the goahead to two separate proposals at a Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday, March 27. The first was by developer Nuffield College to build up to 268 houses on land north of Lydiate Lane, which has been a long time in the making having been preliminarily given a green light in October 2017, but the council stalled on giving the final approval. The second planning application was from Barratt & David Wilson Homes North West, who wanted to build 183 houses on nearby land next to Runnells Lane. Petitions have been launched against the number of houses being built in Thornton, with locals raising issues over a lack of infrastructure and flood risk. Some of their concerns include an increase in traffic, parking problems and a loss of green space. However, Sefton Council sided with the developers, paving the way for work to begin.
