Man in serious condition after being shot outside house A MAN is in hospital after he was shot in the chest and arm outside a house in Litherland. The victim, aged in his 30s, is in a serious but stable condition after he was targeted by a gunman at around 9.40pm on Saturday, March 10 outside a property on Ryefield Lane. Armed police were sent to the residential road, near to Rimrose Valley Country Park, and it was cordoned off over the weekend as officers launched an investigation into the shooting. Police are speaking with local residents to carry out house-to-house enquiries and CCTV footage is being looked into. Detective Inspector John Williams said: “This is the very early stage of our investigation as we seek to find out the exact circumstances, so we are initially looking to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything around 9.40pm in the Ryefield Lane area. “I want to also appeal to anyone who saw vehicles being driven at speed close to the location of the shooting around the time, or may have captured anything on dashcams or home CCTV. “We need the public to help us make the streets safer by telling us what they know about these criminals. We will take robust action and put these people before the courts and in prison. If you know something, please let us know.” Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact the gun crime hotline on 0800 230 0600, @MerPolCC, 101 quoting number 1148 or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 or online.

DIGGERS ON DUNES TO MAKE PROM SAFE ‘Stable ridges’ created to stop sand being blown off the beach Report by Tom Martin PARTS of the promenade at Crosby beach have been cordoned off as work takes place to remove sand piles from the pavement to make it safer as the warmer weather approaches. More people are expected to travel to the beach as the weather slowly improves over the next few months and Sefton Council are getting ahead of the wave of arrivals by making it safer for families. The Champion has reported in previous years how locals complained that they couldn’t get bikes or wheelchairs past the huge piles of sand which are blown from the beach and sand dunes onto the pavement. Workers from Sefton Council’s coast and countryside team are now clearing the sand. Part of the work is to create “stable dune ridges”, which are aimed at stopping sand from being blown onto the promenade and blocking access for people. Sefton Coast Landscape Partnership project officer John Dempsey said: “The sand dunes of the Sefton coast are constantly changing, the wind and tides shape and reshape them. “Their dynamic nature is one of the key features

that makes the landscape so attractive to a host of rare and threatened species. Sand blows to form dunes, or be blasted off the coast’s face to wear away our barrier against rising sea levels. “This winter alone the ravages of Storm Eleanor
have removed metres of frontal dunes in some areas, as high tides and gales coincided to batter the coastline. “At Crosby, south of Crosby Leisure Centre at the Continued inside
