ALLEYWAY FLY-TIPPING ‘IS PUTTING PEOPLE OFF FROM LIVING HERE’ Flats owner says problem made worse as council don’t collect household waste regularly
There were plenty of beers on offer at the festival.
Beer festival raises £4,000 for charity A BEER festival in Crosby has helped raise more than £4,000 for charity. The Rotary Club of Crosby hosted their twelfth successful event at St Lukes Hall with 23 beers on offer. There were 15 beers from the Bristol area, three from the Liberation Brewery on Jersey and the remaining five were supplied by local brewers, Rock the Boat, Red Star, Stamps, Republic of Liverpool and Big Bog. Organisers also had five ciders and seven gins for the non-beer drinkers. Guests were kept well fed, with pies and pasties baked freshly by Pullman Jack from Waterloo, and music was provided by local groups Folk Routes and The Liverpool Shanty Kings. The money raised will be donated to local charities and good causes.
Report by Tom Martin A LANDLORD in Seaforth claims fly-tippers and a build-up of rubbish next to his flats are putting people off living in the area. William Nugent is fed up with bin bags getting left in an alleyway off Hicks Road and he believes the problem has been made worse as Sefton Council keep missing the alleyway in their regular waste collection service. This has led to more and more bags being left and piled up. Fly-tippers have also left a mattress and other unwanted furniture has been dumped in the alley. William said: “I have eight flats here and none of my tenants know where to put their bin bags because they aren’t given wheelie bins so they get put in the entry. When there is no bin collection for weeks on end it becomes a problem. “I have a landlord’s licence and I was told by the council to spend £5,000 on a new fire security system which I did – but they can’t even collect rubbish!

“If I’m being told to get my act together they need to do the same. “It’s a struggle to get tenants to live here because of the problem. “I had a couple come here the other week and they took one look at the rubbish and didn’t even

bother coming in to see the flat. “When I’ve tried contacting the council I just get fobbed off. “They tell me it’s the bin men and then the next time they tell me it’s the fly-tipping squad. You can’t get anywhere with them.”
