Bumper Birthday Edition The Champion Celebrates 24 Years of Serving the Local Community
Brendan is toast of Merseyside! AN ex-soldier from Crosby is the first person in Merseyside to become a Fellow of the Guild of International and Professional Toastmasters. Brendan Abbott, 64, is now an accredited member of the prestigious group after completing a rigorous training course and exam held in London. A toastmaster is a person responsible for proposing toasts, introducing speakers, and making other formal announcements at a large social event. Brendan has become one of only around 50 toastmasters recognised by the ‘FGIntPT’ and the official website indicates he is the only serving member in the whole of Merseyside. He said: “My inspiration for becoming a Fellow of the Guild of International and Professional Toastmasters began when I Brendan Abbott. attended my wife’s niece’s wedding several years ago. “A Fellow of the ‘GIntPT’ presided over her wedding. As an ex-soldier, I was impressed with the smartness of this chap and the way he organised his duties at the wedding. “I asked him as to why he became a Professional Toastmaster and I later enrolled for training in London. “The Guild was founded by the great Ivor Spencer who was Toastmaster on many Royal occasions. As well as offering my services professionally, I am prepared to offer my services when available free of charge to any local deserving causes, where I can act as a Wedding Toastmaster or Master of Ceremonies for charitable events.

Sefton Council has called for the Judicial Review after claiming the public consultation held last year was “flawed because only two options were given to improve traffic flow between Switch Island to the dock – and none of them was a tunnel. Highways England has told the Champion that construction on the dual carriageway won't begin until spring 2020 – but that this is likely to be delayed by the judicial review. Stuart added: “We are urging everyone who cares about Rimrose Valley to be ready to come and demonstrate if and when Highways England invade our valley. “It needs to know that we will not give up opposing this monstrosity of a road. “Anyone with a passion for saving Rimrose Valley should follow our campaign on Facebook and Twitter. “They can also sign up as a friend of Rimrose Valley on our website and receive regular updates. “We will let people know about the timing of any protests as soon as we know more.
